Clover Guild Updated Lore Reference
This page is meant to be an updated lore reference page to help out both new and long-time writers for the guild. If you're completely new to the guild and are feeling overwhelmed, I would recommend checking out the Intro To the Clover Guild page.
New writers should keep in mind that this page is not meant as an objective rule book, it's more a guideline to help authors who are interested in established clover lore and how authors have handled certain PMD concepts, and want to their stories to be consistent with others.
This page will also link to relevant stories whenever possible, so it can be used as a way to help you find a story with a concept you're interested in. Just as a fair warning, this reference will lightly spoil some stories. Major spoilers will be put behind clickable spoiler tags.
A quick note on the citation formatting, when a specific part of a story is referenced, a short quote from it will be included in the citation in green so the user can easily "Ctrl + F" search for that section in the story.
Also this is a WIP and very messy
Clover Guild (The Building)
Guildhall Layout:

Exists in Capim Town on the Grass Continent. It's carved out of a large tree stump, like the other buildings in Capim. An external view of the Guildhall can be seen here.
Established Locations that have shown up in previous stories but are not on the map:
-Bill's Therapy Office (3F, not on map)
-Ikarus's workshop (Basement, the "unclaimed workshop")
-Tropius's House (Not on map, attached to the side of the guild.)
The guild also has a flower garden that was built in the Guild's Garden story.
If you wish to see a more interactive depiction of the guild, the start of the Togetic's Very Special Episode romhack allows you to wander around the first floor and storeroom of the guild.
Detailed Room Descriptions
Dorms
Most guildmembers sleep in dorm rooms should their size allow for it.
As for the content of these rooms, most are outfitted with a cotton bed¹, and the guild also has a supply of green blankets and pillows² that were supplied by a Leavanny. Most rooms are also depicted as having some sort of circular window like those in Capim Town proper.
- Go to Bed, By Chespin-anon (We spend the rest of the day carrying loads of cotton)
- Go to Bed 2, By Chespin-anon (Leavanny walks out holding a couple of pillows and blankets)
Storeroom
The basement storeroom is one of the places in the guild that's gotten the most detail about its contents. Before Togetic was recruited, the storeroom was messy and unorganized, but afterwards its contents are now properly organized and labeled¹. It includes contents you would expect in the PMD world, berries, seeds, orbs, etc. Various notable contents of the storeroom include:
- A mirror²
- Cyndaquil's Substitute Plushie³
- Frisms⁴ (Items that can record sounds, mostly used to spout memes)
- A box with "Reviver Seeds : )" scribbled over the label⁵ (the contents are actual Reviver Seeds, despite the label)
- Storehouse Organization, By Togetic-anon
- Branching Out, By Elm-anon (It was a mirror)
- Branching Out, By Elm-anon (Referenced only by image)
- Go to Bed, By Chespin-anon (THE TREASURES INSIDE ARE ICY OBJECTS KNOWN AS FRISMS)
- An Overelming Week, By Elm-anon (I had a devilish idea)
Library
The library has been described as having most of its books be second-hand¹, though there are also books in the library that have been written by guildmembers themselves². Their quality varies. Maps are also stored in the library when they are not currently being used/created in the map room³.
- Liminal Crossroads Chapter 6, By Growlithe-anon, (The potent imprinted scents on them are a dead giveaway of them being quite worn and second-hand.
- (Citation needed, I swear there was a story with a character reading from the guild library and there being a meta-joke about how despite the shitposts some of the stories were enjoyable, but I can't find it.)
- Map, By Ribombee-anon, (He said there’s a map in the library that he needs)
Clinic
The Clinic appears in many different stories, given how often guildmembers get themselves hurt. It is usually depicted as having actual beds for guildmembers to recuperate in. Pokemon generally heal up from injuries pretty quickly, but some authors have written that certain major injuries (such as broken bones) sometimes take longer to heal.
Most importantly, the clinic features the Guild's nurse, Kina the Audino.
Kina
It may seem odd to give Kina the Audino her whole own section, but she has essentially become a NPC within the Clover Guild who is often referenced in many stories. Her original creator never made any full stories with her, and there isn't a writing guide or personality blurb for her. She first appeared in an unnamed story by Kaiji-anon.¹
As far as I know, it's never been brought up if she's a native or a humon. She's rash personality wise, and has little tolerance for people messing with her. That said, she always depicted as diligently doing her job healing guildmates, even if they get on her nerves. She knows Heal Pulse², and has good hearing due to being an Audino.³
Considering her nature as a sort of NPC character for the guild, her character is kept static so all writers can use her without breaking consistency.
- Currently Unnamed McNumel Story, By Kaiji-anon, (Kina gave him a look that screamed "get this retard out of here NOW!")
- Slingshot, By Ribombee-anon, (My Heal Pulse works wonders, doesn’t it?)
- Slingshot, (“I heard that,” Kina said from the next room. She sounded a bit irritated.)
Other stories she has appeared in:
- Saved, By Togetic-anon, (I'm Kina, the nurse of Clover Guild.)
- Torchic Crosses the Alps, By Phanpy-anon, (said Kina, the 'nurse Audino' that Cyndaquil was so fond of)
- National Dex Pokegraphic Chapter 3, By Invalid Value-anon, (The Zangoose spotted Kina, the Audino who was the guild's medic)
- Togetic's Very Special Episode, Romhack by various anons, (Linked full playthrough with timestamp)
Kitchen
Meals are usually cooked by Beast the Munchlax and his stove, Ronnie the Numel. Multiple stories have mentioned there being breakfast, lunch, and dinner services. Despite Beast's expertise as a chef, most meals are usually kept simple in order to more easily keep everyone in the guild fed.
Locations
Ribombee-anon has a large lore document covering all locations mentioned in Clover Guild stories. It is slightly outdated, but still incredibly useful and detailed:
Clover Guild Locations
The most useful section for a new writer will probably be "CAPIM TOWN AND ENVIRONS" part, as it describes many of the commonly referenced buildings and NPCs within Capim town.
(As a note, when the Clover Locations rentry notes places as "canon", it refers to the canon of the actual games. Clover locations are marked as "non-canon".)
Dungeons
Dungeons are where authors tend to differ the most. However, there are two basic things most Clover Guild authors agree on:
- Enemy Pokemon found in dungeons are called "ferals", and they're usually depicted as mindless monsters.
- When a feral is defeated, they disappear into dark smoke. They can also bleed this smoke if injured.
When it comes to anything else, there's only one thing agreed upon when it comes to dungeons: It's a mystery
For example, when it comes to stairs:
- Some authors write that dungeons have stairs
- Some write that the stairs instantly teleport you to the next floor when you touch them¹
- Some write that after using the stairs and going to the next floor, they disappear²
- Some write that dungeons don't have stairs at all
- Some write that some dungeons have stairs but others don't³
Other dungeon mechanics are usually written how they work in the games. Generally when someone is defeated in a dungeon, they appear at the dungeon entrance like in the games, but if this damage is life-threatening or not varies by author.
A side note about ferals, some have written that a part severed from a feral won't disappear when the feral dies.⁴
- Ross Sleeps...?, By Ross-anon, (As I reached out and touched one of the steps, my vision suddenly darkened completely)
- Foraging Run, By Skorupi-anon, (I feel disoriented for a moment as I reach the top of the stairs, only to find myself on solid ground again, with no trace of the stairwell I just took ever having existed in the first place)
- Reunion, By Togetic-anon, (No stairs so far. Maybe this is one of those dungeons that doesn't have them?)
- Slingshot, By Ribombee-anon, (I noticed the vines remained even after they vanished)
Food
Most stories avoid mentioning meals including meat, but (ethically sourced) Slowpoke Tails and Veluza filets have been mentioned before¹.
Some writers keep in mind how some Pokemon might not be able to eat certain foods, or how a humon's taste might change. Examples are Booker the Ribombee loving nectar and pollen², and Cachopo the Tauros being unable to eat pancakes³.
- Buckle Up, Part 3, By Ribombee-anon, (Sneasel, being the only meat-eater in the group, additionally had some sort of meat patty—presumably sourced non-lethally from Slowpoke tails, Veluza filets, or the like)
- Sorbet, By Ribombee-anon, (After becoming a Ribombee, my new favorite foods were nectar and pollen)
- Induced Demand, By Cachopo-anon, (I can't eat pancakes...)
Items
When it comes to describing how items look, most authors tend to base their descriptions on official art of Rescue Team DX.
Orbs
Can work outside of dungeons sometimes. Differing interpretations on how they're activated, sometimes they have to be shattered¹, or they can just be activated on command².
- Go To Bed, By Chespin-anon, (With a shout, I throw it to the floor, shattering it!)
- The Anonymous Package, By Debby-anon, (She took out a Light Orb from her tail bag to banish the darkness of the evening and set it on her table)
Berries
When it comes to healing berries, such as Orans, they're usually written to heal the user instantly when eaten¹. Some authors write that it's more effective to use their juices on the wounds themselves.
- First Day on the Job, By Phanpy-anon, (I plucked an oran berry out of the pile. As its juices ran down my throat I could already feel better.)
- Learning to Fly Chapter 11, By Ribombee-anon, (I had bandages wrapped tightly around my injured head, abdomen, and leg. The white fabric was stained with the familiar blue of Oran Berry juice, which dulled the pain)
Blast Seeds
Like the games, either can be thrown to make an explosion on contact, or can be eaten to breathe fire.
Reviver Seeds
Due to how broken Reviver Seeds can be, writers sometimes ignore them or don't acknowledge them. However, some stories have included them being used, but how they're activated depends on the author. Sometimes they activate automatically while carried, like in the games¹, or they have to be fed to a fainted Pokemon².
- An Overelming Week, By Elm-anon, (Another bite. My vision went dark, but one of my Reviver Seeds kicked in.)
- Thunder Dome, By Ribombee-anon, (He shoved the Reviver Seed into her mouth, which was hanging open slightly. She stirred, and she closed her mouth and lazily chewed)
Scarves/Equipment
Scarves/Clothes that give stat buffs (Such as the Detect Band) are sometimes worn by guildmembers with their in-game effects referenced, while other character's clothes are purely decorative².
- Wooper's Family, By Chespin-anon, (As I finish tying it around my neck, I feel something in my body change. For some reason, I feel...lighter? No, that ain't it. I feel more agile, as if I can now run faster and dodge quicker.)
- Ross Passes the Time, By Ross-anon
Aura
Aura is something that has been established in-lore to be something all Pokemon have, but some Pokemon are more attuned to it than others. Aura-sensitive characters include Booker the Ribombee, KFC the Combusken, Lliam the Meowstic, Asana the Meditite, and Arimis the Espeon. More detailed information on Aura can be found here:
A Detailed Guide to Aura
Aura Personalities
Evolution
How evolution works is inconsistent between stories. Some stories make it work like the games, where you need to be in a specific area at a specific time, such as Luminous Spring in Mystifying Forest¹. Others have written that certain Pokemon have specific places they must go to evolve, such as Eeveelution Forest². And sometimes, Pokemon just evolve whenever the conditions are right³.
Devolve Orbs have also been established, and they permanently de-evolve a Pokemon by one stage⁴.
- Stronger, By Chespin-anon, (The spring inside Mystifying Forest finally reawakened! It's been years since it's last done that.)
- Eeveelution Forest, By Vaporeon-anon, (Okay, I thought, where to go…)
- Reunion, By Togetic-anon, (B-But th-then I n-noticed I had evolved, and I-I was a-able to save h-him... J-Just barely, th-though.)
- Stronger, By Chespin-anon, (You know about Orbs by now, but what if I told you there's a pretty rare Orb out there that actually devolves a target for you?)
Guild's Reputation
The Guild and its members are generally seen in a negative light by natives, but that isn't universal. Some natives are more friendly, while others are open about their distaste for its members.
The guild's negative reputation comes from the eccentric nature of some members, the members being "self-proclaimed" humans (some natives don't believe the humans in the guild are actually human, also sometimes used as a cover story so natives don't question why there's so many humans), and the trouble caused by events such as the burning of Apple Woods¹.
- The First Day on the Job, By Phanpy-anon, (“Holy shit.” said Cyndaquil.)
The Federation
The Exploration Team Federation is the organization that oversees all official guilds, including Wigglytuff's. Its president is Alakazam (It's left vague if he's the same one from Rescue Team(?)), and he does not have the highest opinion of humons. The Clover Guild officially joined the Federation after the "Enter The Federation" collab event, after the guild and its members successfully completed a test. All of the ETF stories can be read here. The Federation also has a badge design for its members, which can be seen here.
Despite their strained relationship with the guild, occasionally the Federation will give specific requests to the guild and its guildmembers, but often only when the Federation has no other options, or if they don't want to waste effort sending a more competent team¹.
Field agents have been seen wearing a uniform consisting of a cloak and beret with a badge². Different uniform colors denote different roles.
- Togetic's Echoes of Adventure, By Togetic-anon, (No doubt shoved onto us because it's something the federation is too lazy to do themselves. That, or they just don't want to spend the money hiring actually competent exploration teams.)
- The Quartet, by KFC-anon, (He was dressed in a black cloak with a matching black beret. Pinned to the hat was an explorer’s badge with a blue gem embedded in it)
Travel
When it comes to transportation by sea, some writers use Lapras to ferry Pokemon¹, while others have established that there are boats². Also established is a ship company called Lapras Liner, which uses actual boats³.
For travel by air, the Clover Guild has Percival the Corviknight to help transport goods and guildmembers⁴. Options exist for when he is unavailable⁵.
- Togetic's Echoes of Adventure, By Togetic-anon, (we head to the Capim Town docks and hop onto a Lapras to take us to the Air Continent)
- Three Strangers Rock the Boat, By Kiyo-anon, (Part of him wants to suggest the three purchase their own boat, but that idea will never stick)
- Twin Star, By Vaporeon-anon, (Y’see, most of the ferries are just larpases, but they also built ships some time ago.)
- Percival's Extended Introduction, By Corviknight-anon, (We could really use someone to help transport goods and Pokémon)
- Branching Out, By Elm-anon (Pelipper then opened his bill and said, "Well, hop in!" While pointing at it.)
Continents
Most stories take place on the Grass Continent due to that being where Capim town is, but some stories have taken place on other continents.
Air Continent
The continent the events of Rescue Team took place. Pokemon Square has been described as being a bustling town about the same size as Capim¹. Friend zones are also described as being nearby Pokemon Square, as areas Pokemon can relax or live². While how long it takes to travel between continents differs between writers, one story mentioned it takes two days to get from the Grass Continent to the Air Continent³.
- The Teams Team Up Part 3, by Chespin-anon, (As we enter the town, I wonder why they call it a 'square' when the town is so much larger than just a central plaza. It seems to be roughly the size of Capim Town, with all sorts of shops, stalls, and restaurants along the road.)
- The Teams Team Up Part 3, (“Gourd Swamp...Berry and I lived here during our adventuring days. Just being here brings back so many memories...”)
- Team Moonshine: The Evolution Situation, By Adrian-anon, (The journey to the Air Continent would take about two days thanks to the jet streams connecting it to the Grass continent.)
Sand Continent
This continent is from Super, and is where many stories about Makky the Makuhita take place, before he arrived at the guild. His stories can be read here.
(Need to add list of towns mentioned in his stories and relevant details about them here.)
Mist Continent
This continent is where the events of Gates took place. Relatively unused in stories, it has been described in Cherris's intro¹, and referenced in some of Vaporeon-anon's stories².
- Named At Last, by Glaceon-anon, (Beneath the Mist Continent’s soaring mountains lie the sprawling tunnels of Mad Giant’s Labyrinth)
- Antediluvian, by Vaporeon-anon, (Well, I come from Mist. There’s no more religious continent in the world than Mist, you should know…)
Water Continent
This continent is the site of Lively Town, the headquarters of the Exploration Team Federation. The large and militaristic Blaziken Tribe is located on the western peninsula. KFC was born there, and its members have been known to travel to other continents, including the Grass Continent¹.
- The Quartet, by KFC-anon, (Four Combusken wandered through the woods, defeating all the dungeon inhabitants in their path.)
Technology
The exact level of technology used in the PMD world is inconsistent between stories, but the following have all appeared at least once:
- Musical instruments, such as the harmonica, accordion, drums, and lutes¹
- Phonographs and records (Beast is shown to have one in his room)²
- Cleaning equipment such as brooms, sponges, buckets, mops, etc³
- Basic cooking equipment, such as pots, pans, stovetops lit by fire-types, etc⁴
- Spyglasses⁵
- Paper, books, newspapers, and other prints.
- Clothing of all sorts, including halloween costumes.
- Medicinals, including various salves and bandages.
- Weapons and armor⁶, including organic equipment made from Pokemon materials
- Gathering, By Ribombee-anon, (Politoed with a lute sat on a pair of stools onstage)
- The Wag of the Finger: Second Course, By Beast-anon, (turning on his phonograph and flopping into bed)
- The Wag of the Finger: Second Course, (Beast dipped his sponge into back into the bucket and continued to scrub the floor of his kitchen.)
- The Wag of the Finger: Second Course, (His equipment could certainly be better, as it was just second-hand pots and pans)
- Buckle Up Part 3, By Ribombee-anon, (reached into his cloak and withdrew a spyglass)
- Three Strangers Rock the Boat, by Kiyo-anon, (A few drunken pokemon spar by the side of the ship, their blades clattering against each other, with spectators watching the dance of steel.)
Misc
This page is mostly inspired by the old, outdated Quick Clover Guild Lore Reference page.
While making this page, I checked the "cloverlore2" rentry url to see if it was taken, and found a WIP updated lore page. As far as I can tell this was never posted anywhere and it's clearly unfinished, but I like it so I stole stuff from it. Apologies if the anon who was working on this is still around.
