PLAYSTATION - the start

.
YIP YIP! PLAYSTATION ORIGINALLY RELEASED IN DECEMBER 3RD OF 1994 JAPAN HERE I COME............ Okay so if it weren't for the PlayStation, Sony likely would've stuck to selling televisions and other technology stuff rather than consoles, It was cool for the playstation to also support CD reading than just games! It's also really cool how it's also forwards compatible with the PS2 DualShock controller, same goes with the ps2 how it's backwards compatible with the original PlayStation controllers. Though not for some games as they require analog sticks specifically. Did you know it started as a Nintendo project? cool right? plus it was also the first console to sell over a million units and the memory cards were nothing but a new concept! another thing, the iconic startup sound had a second part that only played if the disc loaded properly. If you heard just the first part, you knew something was wrong! And as we all know, at first before the slim model was dropped, there was no analog sticks! They were added later with the DualAnalog and THEEEEBN the DualShock which then became the standard. Another thing: many PlayStation users discovered that swapping discs at just the right time during the loading screen let them bypass region locks or even play backup discs. Not exactly the legalest thing to do, but like it became legendary in the modding scene. Albeit mainly, the PlayStation became known for its surprisingly durable build. There are clips of it still working after being dropped or even partially melted! LIKE? It's giving Nokia vibes...

BEST PS1 GAME HITS: Gran Turismo (1&2),

                       Crash Bandicoot (2&3)

  • it wasn't all sunshine and rainbows, though, it had it's own flaws like the earliest models and overheating, memory card corruption and disc reading errors. Some people refer to the og ps as the "PSX" which upsets me: the PSX is a seperate console.
  • do I own this console myself? (soon)
  • and do I own the slim model?

Me personally, the original PlayStation (or as the slim, ps1) wouldn't be considered that much of a favourite of mines. Though that doesn't mean I hate it, far from that, the PlayStation's all equally hold a special place in my heart. I just wouldn't say that the original is my favourite; but I'm sure it's someone elses!

PLAYSTATION - 2

.
WOAH The second PlayStation. If it weren't for me obsessing over the 'Early 2000s Older Brother' aesthetic and coming across the PS2 on a pinterest board, it's highly likely I wouldn't of gotten into technology. Although I am scared to play games on my PS2 (cause of the RSOD), I enjoy burning CDs and playing them on my PS2. The PS2 is the best-selling video game console ever, with over 155 million units sold WORLDWIDE. And another thing, not to mention: It maintained support for over 13 years. Just. Woah. An INSANELY long lifespan for a console originally released in Japan on March 4, 2000, in North America on October 26, in Europe on November 24, in Australia on November 30: Then other regions after. It is backwards compatible with PS1 games, controllers (DualShock highly recommended), memory cards. Another fact, the PS2 logo is flippable! If you want your console laid horizontal, you can flip the logo on the side so it's not vertical. Same for vertical standing as well: which is why the PS2 stand exists! The PS2 also supports DVD format so you could watch your movies on it as well, I plan to burn all of Inanimate Insanity on DVD! Adding on: One of the PS2's major eye-catcher was its built-in DVD player. Since at launch, it was one of the cheapest DVD players on the market, helping DVDs defeat VHS as the dominant movie format. The PS2 had usb ports and an optional internal hard drive (HDD), regularly used for games like Final Fantasy XI. A Network Adapter let you go online, years before Xbox Live dominated. And get this, if you couldn't afford the official stands, the original PS2's box packaging was designed so that it could double as a vertical stand for the console! Personally I haven't got an official box as I bought my PS2 (Phat & Slim, silver model) off of eBay. I might just buy one for both tho kyaha! More than 4,000 games were released for the PS2 as well, and even after the PS3's release there was still games for the PS2 coming out: up until PS4 where it finally ended. It also outlived the PS3 shockingly. A few PS2 titles accidentally included PS1 era developer/debug code in their data likely due to reused engines as well.

BEST PS2 GAME HITS: GTA: San Andreas,
                       GTA: Vice City (+III)
                       Gran Turismo (3&4)
                       Final Fantasy X +
                       Kingdom Hearts
                       Metal Gear Solid 2
                       Bully/Canis Canem

  • Some flaws, many early PS2 models (mainly the SCPH-30001) experienced the common "Disc Read Error" message. This often affected DVDs more than CDs and was caused by dust, poor-quality laser components ETC. Sony even got sued for this and had to offer repairs during a class-action lawsuit in the U.S. The phat PS2 had a noisy fan and disc drive that became even louder over time.
  • do I own this console myself?
  • and do I own the slim model?

Love this console, It's pretty great looking past the flaws! Dunno what more there is to say, one of my personal favourites.
