Useful Resources for Worldbuilding

This page lists and details some of the more useful resources to improve your worldbuilding experience.

Essential Resources

Paint .Net
Paint .Net is the easiest to use/free version of Photoshop on the market and is an excellent tool in many matters because it can serve so many purposes from flag creation to map creation.
Wikipedia
Wikipedia is a great source in general at finding information on just about anything. It will be mentioned specifically in some fields but overall, you can find information on most things essential for worldbuilding on Wikipedia and build from there.

Coat of Arms and Flags

Flags

Vexillology
Unironically, one of the best and easiest ways to create flags is to borrow preexisting flags from either Wikipedia or Google images. You can be lazy and just use the flags or you can adapt them to your own means. An example is using a traditional Cross of Burgundy and recoloring it to your desires in Paint. The link above is a great starting place into understand what vexillology is and the related pages are also great resources.
Flag-Creator
Not the greatest site for Flag Creation but it could be what you are looking for because of how simple it is. Good at just creating base designs for you to build on with other sites.
Flagmaker-Print
The best site when it comes to creating flags, not because it has a bunch of special elements to it but because you can import your own pngs to it and easily line them up using the snapping mechanism, so your flag is not off balance. Highly recommend for everyone, especially those who don't like moving something in Paint .Net forever until it is perfect. This site also has some nice base designs and an easy-to-use interface.

Coat of Arms

WappenWiki
The quintessential site for all of your needs for Coat of Arms. This site has thousands of real coat of arms from across Europe and the New World at your disposal, whether you chose to use them outright, combine them into other Coat of Arms or even make a flag from them; WappenWiki is a goldmine. Furthermore, their resources are excellent and allow you to understand things better. The only real flaw is that the page is slow to load sometimes but it is highly recommended.
WikiCommons
A basic, simple but useful source for finding Coat of Arms elements to use for your Coat of Arms. Everything comes in PNG so it makes your task in Paint easier. Easy to access and understand.
DrawShield
If Wappen is the quintessential site, this is the most Indepth and unique site at your disposal. It is extremely complex and hard to use but the site also has plenty of tutorials on it to help you. Furthermore, it is an excellent source in learning about Coat of Arms as well. There is no better site on the internet when it comes to creating good coat of arms and should you learn how to use its complex mechanics, you will create something truly great.
