Kingdom and Suffecate of Kanaruca

History of Kanaruca

Since the days of the first invasion and anarchy in 711, the army of what is now Kanaruca has a long and varied history. The invasion itself of the SEA peoples overthrew the Kingdom of Marsovia, and threw their former lands into totally anarchy, until the rise of the first Kingdom of Kanaruca in 777.

The Prince Karthalo II, from the city of Rusadir, had managed to organize an unstoppable army made up of Marsovci Janissaries, Rusadiran Heavy Horse, and various levies waged a 5 year long war of conquest that saw him unify the lands into one Kingdom in 777 through the sword and diplomacy. Those petty Kingdoms that did not submit were conquered and those that did were made feudal vassals.

After further conquests against the Zetans, proto-Lusitanians, and Lunesians , the Kingdom grew to encompass much of what is now today part of the Second Kingdom by 821, and also included the Palatinate of Antigenia (From 846 to 963), the Duchy of Julia, and the Principality of Senia (937 to 963) in Deuxlunesia; and much of Equaseia and Insanisia (From 944 to 957) at some points. The army of this period was still focused on the winning formula of Marsovci Janissaries, Heavy Cavalry, and vast levies and irregulars, and it really did work well as the Kingdom was able to regularly raid its neighbors and take land.

The height of the First Kingdom came under the reign of Hamilkar III 'the Great' (931 to 954), who was able to conquer Equaseia and Insanisia in Lusitania, and Julia and Senia in Deuxlunesia. He also raided deeply into his neighbors, burning Ferreira to the ground and reaching as far as Olympias and Aequita in Deuxlunesia. With his death however, and the rise of his son Karthalo IV (954 to 966), the Second Kingdom rapidly collapsed, first being annihilated by the Lusitanians under their new King Afonso III, losing Hamilkar's conquests and then Antigenia, Julia and Senia in 963. Karthalo was overthrown by nobles in 966, and the First Kingdom would end with the lands being filled with many petty Kingdoms and states until the coming of Henri-Arnaud de La Rochejaquelein.

The year was 993 when Henri-Arnaud de La Rochejaquelein arrived at Hamilbokar upon the invitation of its residents. He was a charismatic Oiseau convert to Kobokism, and he brought with him 8,000 loyal followers. Henri had visited the city several times before, and was well liked by its people and had been offered the title "Prince of Hamilbokar" 2 years before, but declined. Upon his arrival, He preached of a great reform to the religion, one focused on Cunny more than Numbers, and new unified realm that would abandon the old ways of tribalism and embrace the principles of the Cunny.

After sallying forth and ending the siege on June 2nd, he sent letters across the realm speaking of his new principles, and thousands flocked to his banner. By the next year, he gathered an army of 25,000 and began his 7-year campaign of unification. His disciplined Oiseau, and Lunesian regulars and local Heavy Cavalry proved to be too much for any of the petty Kings, and he won victory after victory before his final victory in 1000. He was hailed as King of Kanaruca in 997 and appointed his loyal Marsovci Slave, Dragomir, as his equal and suffet.

These events resulted in the expulsion of all of the heathen number tribals that long had cause problems in Kanaruca to Warung Kopi but also started the shift in the Kingdom's focus from land to sea ultimately. Aside from two minor wars against Deuxlunesia in 1004 and 1021 respectively over Antigenia, the Kingdom has been largely peaceful on land, and this reflects itself in the current state of the army.

Government of Kanaruca

Kanaruca is a mixture of a Kingdom and Republican governments. The King himself is the overall leader and chief executive power within the nation, while his co-ruler, the Suffet, is his equal colleague elected by the votes of the Adirim (Supreme Council or ‘Mighty Ones’ ).

The powers of chief executive are split between the two, with the King himself being the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, in charge of foreign affairs, and sharing chief executive powers within the Adirim. The Suffet on the other hand is in charge of domestic affairs, the Supreme Judge within the Miat (tribunal of judges), and also shares chief executive powers within the Adirim. Because they are elected, Suffets hold office for 10 years and it is common practice for the most qualified among the wealthiest and most influential families to obtain the offices. In cases of crisis, the King has the authority to appoint his own Suffet or and also retains the right to dismiss a Suffet from power should he deem them unworthy of office, corrupt, or having a personality that conflicts with his own. It is thus that the process of election is carefully undertaken to avoid such situations. In the event of a regency, two Suffets are elected into power until the King comes of age.

The Adirim is an assembly made up of nobles, and the wealthiest families in the realm. It is a hereditary body and is the upper house of the legislative branch. Around 500 men sit in the Adirim, and their sessions are in theory supposed to be lead by the King and Suffet equally, though circumstances dictates that when this doesn’t happen, the two annually elected executives known as ‘Konzal’, who have many of the powers, such as vetoing bills and being the first speaker within the Adirim, that the King and Suffet hold. In the event that there is only one of either the King or Suffet in the Adirim during a session, the Konzals have secondary powers but can, if both agree, overrule a ruling from their superiors. The Adirim also has the power to appoint regional governors, judges, set the budget, and any war must be agreed on in the Adirim.

The lower house, known as the Himirim (Popular Assembly), made up of lesser merchant families, is in charge of the election of officials, the chief priest and treasurer, and military commanders. Any citizen is eligible to become part of the popular assembly, and it is often a place where great men arise from because of the meritocratic nature of it, and recognition for great deeds as an official or a commander can lead to one becoming part of the Adirim.

The Miat is a council of 104 judges that are the chief judicial branch of the nation. They are led by the Suffet, and also by the Shofetim, who is his equal. They are in charge of the judgment of laws, military commanders, and officials to see if they are worthy or not.

Other notes about the nation government include that the King, Nobles and Ennobled Merchants are allowed to take the "Cunny Tax" from peasants and freeholders, which usually is conducted in the form of a bride show where the locals will present their young daughters before these men, who will pick from them. This tax can be used once every 5 years by nobles, but the King can every year.

Regional governments are led by similar mechanisms, with regional councils known as Dimirim (Regional Assembly) headed by the appointed governor or magistrate. Many of the coastal cities also have their own form of government unique to their polity which is not subject to the regional councils, and only subject to the Adirim, Suffet, King and Miat.

Geography, Geology and Climatology

Climatology of Kanaruca

Economy of Kanaruca

Agriculture is important, but trade is the backbone. Mixed system of slavery, serfs and freeholders used for farming. Lots of artisans in cities, sort of a great difference between the coast and interior. Mining of the mountains would be something useful and I guess we buy a lot of wood from our neighbors or have a great forest somewhere.

Kanarucan Culture, Religion, and Society

Kanarucan Culture

Childhood valued and idolized for women, "Maturity" valued and idolized for men. i.e. being cunny and ojisan. Correction is something that exists. Culture difference between coast and inlands that i will think of. Most cities are built of sandstone, limestone and mudbricks, with marble for fancier things. The Holy Water Temples are Marble and look like the Pantheon in Rome. Gardens are a common sight in cities along with Fountains.

Kobokism

A mix of shamanism mysticism and organized religion. For the masses, the organized Priesthood attend to their flock, while divinations can be provided by Mystics. The Water Shamans are those chosen from birth for their duty and are raised to being Master of Water and cunny alike. They are located at Water Temples.
Interesting notes:

  • cunny love is cunny life, one day i hope for a cunny wife, as i arise in the morning i gaze upon my cunny wife yawning, with eyes like dazzling gems, and gems 10/10, all i know, all is well in life when i have myself a cunny wife.
  • Lake Kunna is a holy site.

Royal Navy of Kanaruca

Pride of the nation and filled with enthusiasm, innovation, and a desire for dominance/revenge. Long rivalry with Black Fleet that in recent years has brought several humiliating defeats but the navy is rebounding fast and aims to beat the deadbeats at their own game. Better quality ships, better trained sailors, better leaders, better tactics, innovations, and better strategy. It's time for our place in the sun.
