A loveletter to CoE (Major wip)

Introduction
This is not the beginning of a nightmare, but an end to a peaceful dream.
Hello! I am Langxi. Cell of Empireo has been a major part of my life ever since 2021-2022, when the Youtube English translator started translating the games. Ever since, it has influenced me to the person I am today and I look at content of it daily. I've also consumed every "official" and "canon" work aside from a few. Despite my only language being English, I continued to love the game and find anything to continue my obsession with it. The same can be said with other CoE fans; Korean, Chinese, SEAsia, Russia, etc. have all showed interest in this game. It is just something that transcends language barriers. How does it do so? Well, there's so much to appreciate in the series -- narrative, characters, themes, details, the community, etc.
Narrative
A rat with no head is looking this way...
I won't go too in depth on the plot just in case you want to experience yourself. Or if you haven't finished the game. Anyways, the first game has you play as Haruki Atou, a detective who investigates the disappearance of his coworker. As he investigates, he gets a better understanding of what has happened and how it led up to now. He also gets a better understanding of himself by the end of the game. The DLC focuses on characters and their backstories, as well as an introduction to another important character. The protagonist is Sanemitsu, a familiar figure from base game, who is writing about these characters from the game. He is still his own character, don't let this confuse you! Both games work on reconstructing the narrative based on the more scenes and information you get. This is why Cell of Empireo has a lot of replay value -- there are tons of foreshadowing and little details that you won't notice until you have a greater understanding of the plot and everyone in it. There's always a side to every story and CoE gives you all of them. There's multiple endings in CoE but only one ending in the DLC. The different endings in CoE is something I find to be interesting, as you get them based on how much information you gather and S+ being the most information with the full story. Haruki gets further from the truth with the less information you collect.
I've neglected to mention Interlude and Cell of Mirage. Not many people might be that far into the series but I am! Interlude is essentially a bridge between CoE and CoM. It's kind of like the DLC where you play different perspectives but rather than it being focused on a character from their beginning of their time with EHRI, it's more linear. Eg. The first phrase predates the second phrase and so on. It also focuses on more new characters, you get introduced to a bunch of them and you won't know about them unless you're far into the series. Though, just like the narrative itself, it builds on pre-existing information and characters. So while some of them are not "new", information on them in the past has been limited. It's nice being able to see these characters finally have a scene rather than just text about them! These characters will show up again in Cell of Mirage, the second main game in the franchise. Cell of Mirage follows Haruki's coworker, Rui, who is investigating the disappearances of people via mirages. From investigating, he ends up in Rosemaria and finds Dita, along with other people, in there. You see how this is similar to the first game already? I'm curious on how the plot will go. Just like CoE, there are multiple endings and the playtime is long.
On the topic of Cell of Mirage... I plan to host a party when it releases. I'll play it for hours on end (despite me not knowing Japanese and probably getting a scuffed understanding of the game) and get my friends to voice act. There will be sweets, partying, and fun! I'll be sure to point out any small details throughout. Feel free to DM me if you want to be invited :D! Hopefully, CoM will release in the next 2-3 years from now... I have hope considering there being recent merch features CoE characters as CoM characters.
Characters
You can't talk about Cell of Empireo without appreciating it's characters. I have a long list of favorites -- I love everyone in fact. I'll keep this section between my all-time favorites: Haruki, Shinano, Reiji, Sanemitsu, Noriyuki, and Lin. Spoilers ahead! One of these guys doesn't show up until the artbook and later in interlude. This is once again my interpretation of characters and therefore shouldn't be taken as official or anything!
Haruki 🌱
Shinano 🐶
Reiji 🥔
Sanemitsu 🖋️
Noriyuki ❄️
Lin 🥽
Before I was far into CoE, I knew that I would love him based off of his CoM profile. When I read interlude and later the artbook, I fell in love with him more than I expected. Anyways, Lin is CASTPort streamer who streams lets play of games. He's charismatic, nerdy, and very fun! I adore his commentary on the cast throughout the artbook and during his livestream on Magical Boy Dita Sword. Though, he's described as "self-deprecating and gets nervous easily" in his CoM profile. I'm very curious to see that side of him... He's my type I fear. If he existed in real life, I would be parasocial with him and donate all my money to him. Also... I need Lin and Shinano interactions. They had a one-sided interaction in the artbook with Lin commenting on Shinano's "otaku ettiquette" and Shinano being a MBDS fan but that's not enough. These two need to match each other's otaku freak in CoM!! Side note: between my friend and I, we call him "unpleasant gradient" because that is his color palette.
To be added:
- Characters
- Themes
- The community
- Conclusion
Misc
There's a recording of me screaming at the artbook for 7 minutes straight.
The English translator is back (11/01/2024)
On November 1st 2024, Cell of Empireo Fanmade English Translation came back with a translation of the subsequent Record 6. After 2 years, they came back!! I already read the DLC but I decided to read their translation out of love, appreciation, and it wouldn't hurt to reread the DLC for the nth time. I recommend doing the same. If you've read their translations, then you'd know that they translate every detail. The details I found in their translation that was left out of the translation document [because the Lets Player didn't interact to get a detail, not the translator's fault] surprised me, I even analyzed them. I found the DLC being experienced this way also more comfortable? The translation document is meant to be read without footage or playing the game so I often remember scenes as text and dialogue rather than actual visuals. Nevertheless, I am grateful for both translators for helping me and many others experience Cell of Empireo. To show my gratitude, I left a comment on the new translation:
I am the top comment as of right now!! And the translator noticed me!! I could die happy and in peace now. I also recommend leaving a comment full of kind words for the translator to read. I plan to watch their other translations and leave a heartfelt comment on all of them, so stay tuned for those. In addition, I'm in two tweets because of me being the top comment, which I found to be funny.
Langxi when he saw that the translator is alive:
Feel free to DM me on Discord (@Lovechestra) if you want to discuss this translation!! I've already spammed my friend's DMs with a live reaction of details I noticed on my reread. If you want to know about them (especially if you've only read the document translation and missed them) then go ahead and message me!
