Luxiem Overview

WIP | LAST UPDATE 7/21/2022: lots of stuff about kindred, primarily regarding shapeshifting and the pregnancy cult

Relative newcomers to Ninisani. Initially faced with immense hostility by the locals due to their unfamiliar customs, the kingdoms forming the Luxiem alliance firmly united to stand against outside threats. The alliance grew rapidly until the sheer quantity of their soldiers made continued hostilities appear futile. Thus, for a short time, Luxiem knew relative peace. Without an outside threat to hold them together, however, the kingdoms largely drifted apart.

Kindred

  • Shapeshifters, overwhelmingly female
  • Vox is worshipped as a god of love, governing over eros and fertility (creation myth)
  • Kindred are characterized largely by their incredible devotion to their god
  • It is strongly believed that their god loves them as much as they love him
  • Their god supposedly visits them in their dreams, and there are more than a few Virgin Mary style stories floating around
  • On occasion, Vox has been known to visit the dreams of non-Kindred. Those visited may find themselves being converted to Kindred after.
  • Extremely horny, but only down to fuck if you look or sound like Vox
  • Polygamists whose family structures consist of 1 breeding male and his many, many lovers
  • Harem members form strong bonds with one another
  • Children are raised communally
  • Lineage-wise, because of the shapeshifting and an importance placed on family, different family lines have different tattoos – typically floral sleeve tattoos – to identify themselves. The tattoos stay regardless of the form a Kindred chooses to take, so you can immediately identify their heritage.
  • Because they regard their deity as the absolute pinnacle of perfection, naturally his form is also regarded as perfect. Many Kindred thus choose to take on the appearance of Vox(anne). This is part of why they all seem so in love with each other.
-There exist some fringe groups who believe this is a form of blasphemy. They insist emulating Vox should be discouraged because he's divine and trying to copy him – or, even worse, pretend like you're as good as he is – is a really egregious offense.
  • A a theocracy with a powerful military run by the church, religion promotes hedonism
  • Many share texts and stories about debauchery involving their deity.
  • The church's overall doctrine is concerned only with degree of worship, rather than specifics. Different Kindred often have different rituals and holy rites
  • Some offer strange confessions to their deity, leaving an offering as well in an attempt to atone.
  • Quick to declare holy war against anyone who so much as breathes disrespectfully in their god’s direction
  • Monkeys, especially great apes, are exalted. Quick to declare holy war against anyone who threatens one’s natural habitat
  • Quick to declare holy war in general, really
  • Sheer zealotry allows them to power through grievous wounds so long as they are fighting to defend the faith
  • Their armies were the driving force behind Luxiem's rapid expansionism
  • Defeated enemies are lovingly mindbroken and folded into the victor’s harem. Victims tend to develop stockholm syndrome and resist rescue
  • Frequently beset upon by schizos.
  • There’s a pregnancy cult, which grows by the day. Its center of power is a small town at the outskirts of the kingdom proper called Luxuria.
  • Home to many extremely skilled artists and craftsmen, in large part due to their obsession with creating depictions of their god. Statues of him line the streets. Sprawling murals cover the walls. Portraits hang in every home.
  • On the Historical Relation Between Two Cultures Worshipping Japanese-Grecoroman Underworld Deities

Lucubs

  • Tall, very fit. Abnormally strong. Women are generally slightly larger than men.
  • Originally, they were citizens of Pomerania. However, their constitutions made them uniquely suited to forging a life in the Badlands. Due to a combination of this and their god being a known rival of Pomu's, the Lucubs were sent out to the settle into the Badlands and reclaim some of the territory from schizos.
  • They speak in strange tongues learned from their god (twitch lingo)
  • Matriarchal society where children tend to be coddled
  • Fairly primitive hunter-gatherer lifestyle, not because they lack the infrastructure for more but because they believe it helps keep them fit
  • Live and fight alongside lions
  • Wear wooden lion masks into battle.
  • The women have strong maternal instincts. They dote on and become extremely overprotective of anyone who triggers it, typically through naivety or endearing stupidity
  • Extremely territorial, easy to provoke and quick to attack intruders.
  • Otherwise friendly as long as you don’t poke at them too much, almost overbearingly so.

Quilldren

  • Tiny, elitist children who think they’re smarter than you.
  • They have hollow bones and constantly forget to eat, so they’re physically fragile.
  • Low-density muscles and small frames make them very light for their size
  • Nordskogen is covered in untamed forest. Sinkholes litter the land, and while the lightweight Quilldren pass over these dangerous spots with ease, the earth itself seems to rise up to swallow intruders whole. A Quilldren guide is needed to safely navigate through the forests to the relative safety of their capital city
  • Pretentious even about self-harm.
  • Culture that places an emphasis on education, having some of the most prestigious scholarly institutions in the empire. They will remind you of this constantly.
  • Have a huge library in the heart of their territory.
  • Bizarre obsession with sugary, fizzy drinks.
  • They use chuubanite to turn water into soda.
  • There’s an energy drink fountain in front of the library. It’s their pride and joy.
  • Small military that lacks power, but they make for good strategists.
  • Tend to utilize traps and guerilla warfare when forced into confrontation.
  • Good with knives.
  • Rely on the neighboring Lucubs and Kindred for tasks that require brawn.
  • Seemingly harmless, but hidden underground is a massive, maze-like temple where they conduct frightening rituals and offer sacrifices to an eldritch god.
  • Funerary rites

Mystakes

  • Their god, Mysta Rias, was once considered the twin of Nina Kosaka. However, ideological differences between their worshippers caused a rift that could not be mended. Mystas eventually seceded from the Kossacks to form their own nation. Some minor cultural similarities, such as the sacred status of foxes, can still be observed.
  • Some see the Mystakes' deity as a God of Misfortune and Calamity. Closer to the Grand Principality of Mystas, he is regarded as a trickster god ruling over Fortune, Mischief and lost things.
  • Isolationists who are prone to sudden fits of hysteria
  • Mystakes firmly believe men should be feminine, cute and submissive.
  • They are not above kidnapping those who fit their criteria to convert them forcefully. It’s for their own good, you know. They’ll be happier that way.
  • Latent /meat/head tendencies
  • Large military, though their fighting power is somewhat undermined by poor organization
  • Used to have strong ties to Kindred but petty disputes between them escalated to the outbreak of a vicious war which dragged in many /nijien/ kingdoms, including those outside of the Luxiem alliance. It was eventually settled peacefully, but to this day relations between Mystakes and the rest of /nijien/ are somewhat strained.
  • Despite limited contact between their kingdoms, they maintain good relations with Yaminions, whose god they believe to be their own god's brother.

Yaminions

  • The other smart kingdom with fancy learning institutions. Won’t rub it in your face like Quilldren do.
  • Good relations with /2434/
  • Skilled alchemists, good at inscribing glyphs and refining chuubanite. Though they do little chuubanite mining themselves, they are willing to sell their services to others
  • Men are traditionally expected to behave like the archetypal yamato nadeshiko
  • Chuubanite powered mpreg technology
  • Army consists primarily of mounted archers with the power of math on their side. In melee combat, they favor naginata.
  • Good grasp of battlefield tactics, but a tendency to act without bothering to vocalize their plans means they work poorly with other armies
