Quilldren Funerary Rites

Though the Quilldren’s physical appearances change very little over the course of their life, this is purely cosmetic. Their cells deteriorate at a rate comparable to that of the average human. A Quild near death will begin to experience symptoms such as increased lethargy, extreme sensitivity to cold, and lack of appetite. When these signs begin to appear, the Quild in question will put their affairs in order. A will may be written, if it is not already, and goodbyes will be said to loved ones. As death draws ever nearer, the final symptom will appear: vivid hallucinations. Shadows at the corner of your eyes. Whispers just too low to decipher. An icy caress, lovingly brushing down the curve of your spine. The Quilldren describe this not as an illness, but holy communion. The visions call them down to the depths of the underground cathedral, where their life is offered upon the altar before death may snatch them from their god’s hands.
