[🌄] Zach and Derby / Dave and Bambi Next Gen

Part 1 :: So, about that thing!

✭

ー Urgh... That was insane. ー

Zach appeared to be half-asleep, yawning as he tried to get a hold of himself before fixing his posture. Last night was a huge party, full of games, bright lights, electronic music, did I mention bright lights? You just had to be there. Unfortunately, party's over and now Zach has to clean it all up before the parents get here. Might as well get himself something while doing so...

Zach sighs as he gets up from the rolling chair he was on before going into the kitchen. He was craving something crunchy for sure... Cereal, maybe? The teen reached for the cereal on the top of the fridge only for it to get pushed back. Damn it. Looks like he would have to get the stepping stool, if he knew where it even was. Groaning, he walks into the living room to get Derby, who was napping on the couch like a toddler, facing the cushions. Surely, she would know where she last put it, right?

" Hey, sis. You good? ", Zach asks as they try to awaken Derby. She murmured... very quietly. That's a good sign.

" Derby? C'mon, get up. " This time, Derby rolls over to gaze at Zach for a moment, then turns back to her pillow to moan into it in annoyance. She does this... literally anytime she gets woken up. Derby definitely isn't a morning person. Zach growls as he angrily grabs Derby from the crouch, halting her slumber.

" WAKE THE HELL UP! " Zach shouts as Derby flinches from the now enraged boy.

Derby struggles to escape Zach's tight grip, but it seems her effort wasn't very effective. Looks like she won't be able to get herself out of this one.

" Okay- Okay... I'll get to it... Wait- What are we doing again? " The doe whimpered as the boy looked her dead in the eyes.

" We gotta clean up the house, our parents are going to kill us! They didn't know we were gonna throw a party. "

" Wait? You didn't tell Pops n' Dad that? "

" Uh... I may have told them instead that I uh... invited just a few friends over. Eh- " Zach loosened his grip on Derby. Guilt was written all over his face, whilst Derby had a more disappointed rather than worried on hers.

" Oh my fucking god- Okay, clean up the house. I don't care about that. House. Clean. "

ー Ayo! What's goin' on here? ー

" Aaaaand we're back, fellas! " Dave bursts the door open in a cheerful attitude with his cane in one hand and Bambi in his other one. The man stood tall with pride while the buck gives a simple wave at its children, absolutely having no idea what happened during their absence. They had just gotten home from a party of their own, except it was more of a date between the two of them.

Derby drops the half-eaten corn in her hand and turns her head to see the duo standing right near the front door " Pops n' Dad! " while having the same energy Dave has, the doe runs to the couple but before she got close enough, Derby was stopped by Dave's cane.

Dave chuckled playfully, " Ah, Ah, Ah! Calm down now, Derby! " She let Bambi out of her hands, who then went on to hug its own dear daughter. The man smiles as she brings her attention to her own child, Zach.

" H-hey there, Dad! " The boy dashed to his father, opening his arms up for a hug before clashing into Dave, slightly toppling him over and squeezing him to a small degree. Zach momentarily loosened his grip on Dave. " How was the date? "

" It was... fine! Uh... How was your guy's night? "

" Eh- Same here! We both watched a movie together- " Zach shrugged and scratched their head, " It was pretty good!

Dave hums as she caresses her fingers in Zach's messy hair, signaling a sense of comfort to him as Zach quietly giggles and vaguely tilts his head down. It seemed that Zach enjoyed her embracing him. " I'm sure you two had some great fun while we were away. " Dave clears her throat before speaking again, " May I talk to you about something, Zach? "

" Uh, yeah! What's it about? " Zach faintly gulped, feeling a bit nervous as he tilts his head back up to face his father properly. Dave looked just as nervous as Zach was, except it was more apparent as he looked back and forth, looking back at Derby and Bambi who were both eating their cobs of corn and chatting with each other. This put Zach at ease, at least there isn't a chance that Dave would ask more questions about their time at home.

" Hmm... I think it's best if we discuss this in my laboratory downstairs. It'll make sense once we get there. " Dave takes Zach's hand as the both of them enter the basement, away from the herd behind them. Zach's tenseness started to rack up again.

ー I can't keep this away from you any longer. ー

As Zach enters the jet black room, Dave settled down on the rolling chair in front of her desk, which had a bulletin board that was filled with colorful strings and photos with pins on them. The photos appeared to be connected in some way. Zach observed the photos, but nothing came to mind on what it was about. They had to be about something, right?

" So... what does all this mean? " The boy pointed to the pictures on the board, curiously glancing over them. If anything, Dave would definitely know where it all comes together. He's been studying down in the basement a lot recently. " Is this why we're down here? "

" ... Yes. Do you remember that time I did that one experiment with you when you were say, 8? 9? " Dave spins her chair around to face her son, inquiring with a serious tone.

" Sorta. Why? "

" Well... You see, there was a lot more to that than you might've realized. I did that experiment in the first place to see if you had the powers I have. " Dave spins back and points to the picture, which depicted a portal which was the gateway to a neon-green realm. The area that the portal led to seemed oddly familiar to Zach, as if he was there once before...

" What kinds of powers? " Zach tilted his head to the side in confusion. Powers? He knew that Bambi and Derby were like gods, but he never would've thought he and Dave would be superhumans of some sorts. " Since when did we have those things? "

" The power to travel across the two dimensional realms; 2D and 3D. We're technically in the 2D realm right now. " Dave points to another picture. It's a photo of their old house. It was all starting to align for Zach, all he needed was more information. " We do have more than this, though. We're able to turn ourselves 3D and back, but the rest for me is a bit hard for me to explain for you in simpler terms. "

" What do you mean 'simpler terms'? I'm pretty sure I can understand what it is. Would help me to see why it was so important that you had to tell me that I have some crazy 3D powers. " Zach raised an eyebrow as he crossed his arms in slight annoyance. He knew Dave didn't mean it in a way to be rude, however it still irritated him.

" By 'simpler terms', I mean things that would make much more sense if I demonstrated them. Now then, what else do you need me to tell you? "

Zach let his arms hang to the side as he shrugs. " You're telling me I lost my... human arms— " Zach giggled a tiny bit before finishing his sentence, " — just to see if I had your powers? " The question looked like it saddened Dave, causing the juvenile to have the same expression. " H-hey, are you okay? "

Dave spins around with her head down towards her son, looking back up with guilt. " ... I'm okay. I didn't mean for that to happen. I had the same occurrence with my legs. " She points to her prosthetic legs, and back at another image which portrayed a younger Dave in a white jacket holding some beakers. " I was wondering if there was other dimensions out there, so I created a half-baked formula to see if there was. I was right, however... " The image she pointed to next showed a bloody and blurry display, which most likely meant that this was where Dave's failed experiment happened. " ... I believe you can figure out what came out of it. I had to get Bambi to come and help me recover. " What followed after the previous display was an upside-down photograph of Bambi picking up an unconscious-looking Dave, also muddled with blood.

" Oh... god. " The exhibit of shots made Zach rather uncomfortable. " Was this how mine went out? Did you have to pick me up and all that? "

" Somewhat. Yours wasn't as bloody as mine, but it definitely made an impact on all of us. " Presented next was a depiction of a 9 and three quarters year old Zach laying in a bed with their shoulders being covered in bandages, missing the other parts of their arms. " I still didn't complete the formula even after my past mistake, I obviously haven't learned my lesson from last time until that moment and I'm not quite sure if I'll forgive myself for my foolishness. " Dave rests his head down on the desk in utter guilt, sulking.

" Hey. It's a-alright. " Zach attempts to grab Dave's attention with a soothing tone as she looks back to him, tears escaping from her eyes. " At least I'm not dead! Eh- It's still a good thing that I did turn out to have those... powers. " Zach smiles and chuckles. His job at reassuring Dave looked like it worked, She smiled back at him, chuckling along with him and his young-spirited self.

" I'm glad you're staying optimistic, my little munchkin. " Dave wipes his tears off his face and fixes his posture. " Hmm... Do you by any chance remember Mr. Bandu and Mx. Noćna-Mora? The lime and dark red siblings? " Dave rests his head on his hand.

" Kinda... Were they the ones with the dog ears and horns? " Zach responded in a slightly confused tone.

" No. You're thinking of Bwabu and most likely Effaced, their children. " Dave giggles to herself and grabs her cane, getting up from the rolling chair and... emitting some sort of green light from her hand? The sight definitely surprised Zach, but considering what he was just told it's probably very normal. " I suppose it's time for you to meet them again. It has been around 2 years. " Dave summons what looks like a portal, similar to the ones shown in the showcase of photographs, that seemingly lead to the 3D dimension. " Shall we? " Dave gestures to Zach and he follows along with his father.

The two of them get ready to enter, but were interrupted by a dashing Derby who was hollering. " AY AY AY! " The doe came down with a hurried attitude, only to be absolutely flabbergasted after taking a few breaths and looking up. " What. The. Fuck. Is that a portal?! " Derby runs towards the portal head first in utter amazement, leaving the two men in shock.

" WHAT THE HELL? DERBY! " Zach yelled for Derby as he rushes right into the portal after her. Dave tries to intervene into the conversation, but was halted by Zach grabbing him and taking him with Zach. The portal shortly after shrinks and closes.
