What are doubles?
Doubles are yumeshippers that yume the same character as you!

What's an f/o & nf/o?
F/o stands for 'Fictional Other'! It is the character you are yumeshipping with!

NF/o stands for 'Non Fictional Other'! This term is used by RPF yumeshippers!

Can I use both terms/one term only?
Yes!

Are yumeshippers valid?
Yep! 100% valid!

UNLESS: you selfship with a minor character whilst you are 18+.

Sharing is when a yumeshipper is alright with doubles!

Hypersharing is when a yumeshipper wants and actively seeks out doubles!

Selective Sharing

Selective sharing is when a yumeshipper chooses who they want to share their f/o with!

Mirrorsharing

Mirrorsharing is when a yumeshipper mirrors your sharing status!

If you're sharing with your f/o, they're also sharing!

SOULBONDING & YUMELINKING

These concepts may seem the same, but they do have one key difference!

Soulbonding

Soulbonding is an intense, ongoing connection to a perceived autonomous entity, variant, or presence—often tied to a fictional character or an individual from an alternate universe.

A "soulbound yumeship" happens when a person who participates in yumeshipping also experiences or believes they have a spiritual or autonomous soulbond with that specific fictional character or their interdimensional counterpart.

Not all yumeshippers/selfshippers are a soulbonder.

Yumelinking

The term "yumelinking" specifically refers to the belief or narrative concept that you and your Fictional Other (F/O) are deeply connected and together across every alternate universe or timeline.

Instead of imagining a relationship with a character in just one specific fanfiction or scenario, a yumelinker views their bond as an unchanging constant across all alternate settings (e.g., in a fantasy AU, a sci-fi AU, or the canon universe).

Yumelinking is essentially a newer, community-coined rebranding of soulbonding. While soulbonding is an older term rooted in feeling a spiritual or psychological two-sided bond with a character, yumelinking is a more casual, fandom-focused way to describe a continuous, multi-universal pairing. Think of yumelinking as an alternative to soulbonding.

What's the difference?

To put it simple: Soulbonding is spiritual. Yumelinking is not.

Yes!

Can I be a soulbonder and a yumelink
I think so, yes! Do whatever you want!

Do soulbonders still refer to their fictional spouse as f/o?
Most, if not all, soulbonders use the term S/O (Significant Other) when talking about their spouse! Most do not use "F/O" as it implies that their connection is fictional.

RPF YUMESHIPPERS

RPF stands for "Real People Fiction." This is the act of shipping yourself with a real person!

Are RPF yumeshippers valid?
Yes! They are as long as it isn't unhealthy or turns into stalking and/or harrassing behavior. It's really divided, but in my personal opinion, RPF is not as bad as it seems. Some RPF yumeshippers block their nf/os so it won't make them uncomfortable!

However, I do not like RPF yumeshippers if the person you are yumeing with comes out and says they're uncomfortable with it and you still yume with them. Remember, these people are REAL. They have feelings like you and me. They deserve to be respected.

Why do people RPF yumeship?
Some people just do it for fun whilst others find comfort in it. Though, most RPF yumeshippers use it for comfort and coping.

What if your nf/o is dead?
This one is truly tough. Some users say that if your nf/o died a long time ago, it's fine to yume them. But if your nf/o died recently, it can be seen as disrespectful. However, I cannot stop you from yumeing whoever you want!

TOXIC YUMESHIPPERS

Toxic yumeshippers are yumeshippers that are toxic. (Obviously.) They usually engage in harrassing their doubles and sometimes seeing the sharing status as "stupid" and "invalid." Their often argument is "why would you want to share your spouse?"

Some toxic yumeshippers will go out of their way to impersonate their doubles to make them seem problematic. They'll also stalk their doubles sometimes.

Toxic yumeshippers usually want to be seen as THE yumeshipper of their f/o.

Every toxic yumeshipper is nonsharing and yume a fictional character, as far as I've seen.

Are toxic yumeshippers valid?
No! Never! Doxxing/Harrassing someone over a fictional character is NEVER okay!

How can I stay safe from harrassment/doxxing from a toxic yumeshipper?
Do NOT engage with them! Do not follow, like, or comment on their videos. Simply block toxic yumeshippers. Do NOT click any links of someone you do not trust/a toxic yumeshipper. Surround yourself with people that will support you and make you happy.

I'm on the edge of being a toxic yumeshipper, how can I stop?
I know what it's like to be on the edge of being a toxic yumeshipper, so I do these to make me feel better when I see a double!

Take a step back from your screen. Distract yourself from your doubles. Remind yourself that your f/o loves you only. Indulge in your f/os media (books, movies, edits...) Talk to someone about your yumeship.

It's okay to be angry or jealous of your doubles, but it is never okay to harrass them. Blocking your doubles is the BEST thing you can do. I find it to be the best as later on, you'll forget all about your doubles! Stay safe!
