Chapter XXII: Pomerlane's opening moves

Mid- April to Mid-June 1111

Pomerlane called a council of war the day he heard of the movements of the enemy armies towards his lands. By this point, they should likely be in both Syrenia and Eliria. Faced by forces estimated to be nearly 300,000 on multiple fronts, Pomerlane was left in a dilemma at this point. With the present commanders in the Black Army in his tent voicing their own opinions, Pomerlane hearing their advice and considering his own ideas came up with a plan that he felt would be the best. First, he wanted to concentrate his forces in Eliria and defeat both of the Pomeranian armies in detail. He would first march his men to Lillehammer to meet with the Archducal army of Prince Nicephorus. He hoped that the impetuous Prince of Salzwedel-Stormfury would march with all haste towards Lillehammer and that Pomerlane could catch him with the Archducal army either in route or at the city and defeat him before then turning south towards Diamond City to defeat the Pomuran army that was headed there. But Pomerlane realized the threat posed by Magnus's large army striking towards Trinitas. Sergius Cato was spread thin and though he could delay the advance, he wouldn't be able to hold out forever. Thus, he decided to split his army into two.

He would personally take 13,000 of his infantry, 74 guns and 7,000 of his cavalry, including the Winged Lancers north. These were the men he was taking with him were his finest and he would need to rely on the new tactics and their skill to win. He would send the rest of his army to join with Sergius Cato, which he placed under the command of his childhood friend Pomponius. There, he hoped Cato would be able to stop Magnus from overrunning Syrenia before he won victory in the North.

He set out the next day and after a month and a half, would reach Lillehammer. The stage was set for the first major battle of the Great Pomeranian War.
