It has been three days since the Written Exam. After one day of total silence, each of you was instructed with a single warning and given a day to to prepare - whatever you should prepare for was intentionally left unexplained - after which you were escorted from Konoha and deep into the surrounding woodlands. Isolated from friends, family, the comforts of civilisation and any other support, you were left solely in the care of yourself, your tools and your team.

A large mesh fence reinforced with seals, barriers and a strong electrical current separates the collected Genin from a forest of altogether different and more sinister bearing - the grim, mossy trees extend far taller and grow far thicker than any seen in your trip so far, with a feint but terrible stench of poisonous marshlands emanating from the dark overgrowth.

It is here the second proctor appears in a cloud of smoke, another masked Anbu, another unconventional choice for an examiner.

'Since you all passed the Written Exam, I am going to assume most of you know what comes next - but for those of you slower on the uptake, I'll explain the rules. Pay attention, you won't be getting a refresh.'

In one hand they unravel a scroll, on which is drawn a crude map of a circular forested area, the icon of a tower at its centre.

'This is Konoha's Training Ground 44, you may know it as the Forest of Death. It is a closed off, circular area of specially cultivated dangerous flora and fauna twenty kilometres wide. In its exact centre - ten kilometres from the perimeter for those of you who can't tell a kunai from a shuriken - is an installation we use for occupying the zone.'

Simple enough so far - the area isn't particularly large, even with the overgrowth most of you could cross it in a day if you were being halfway quick about it.

'Your objective will be to arrive at the central installation with two different scrolls. Once all three of your team arrive arrive - providing you have the two requested scrolls - your team will have passed the stage and graduate to the third exam. There is no other way to pass the test.'

It can't be that easy, you brace yourself for the catch.

The Anbu draws two smaller scrolls from a pack, one black, the other white, on them is marked the seals for 'Heaven,' and 'Earth.'

'However, each team will be given only one of these two scrolls. Further, each pair may only be used once, by a single team, to pass. I presume you know what this means.'

Only half of you will pass, it now dawns on you the true nature of the test. Wilderness survival, dangerous environments, even poisonous plants and hungry giant animals, you can handle those. The true danger of the Forest is your fellow Genin.

'In short, your team are to arrive at the installation with one of each scroll by any means necessary. If you do not achieve this within exactly 120 hours after the exam begins, you will fail, regardless of your situation or held scrolls. There is no late credit on this exam, if you are a second late over the deadline you fail.'

Tension rises as you eye your rivals, some of the Genin here are willing to kill in order to become Chūnin, are you?

'Your team will receive one randomly determined scroll and numbered ticket from the Chūnin behind me in secret. Your team will then be directed to the entry gate marked on the ticket. Once you receive a signal from the attendant at your entrance, you will be allowed into the Forest. No entrance to the Forest perimeter is permitted until the Exam starts, and no exit is permitted until the Exam ends at the 120 hour mark. If you cannot complete the exam, it is recommended that you find somewhere to hide. Jonin will only enter the perimeter to collect the stragglers - and the corpses - after the exam period is complete.'

The mention of corpses does little to help ease the killing intent you feel from your more deranged fellow examinees.

'Finally, under no circumstances must you open the objective scrolls until you are within the installation. Dismissed!'

With another flash of smoke, the proctor disappears.

Activity

Any writeups the Team is taking part in during the day, usually - but not necessarily - limited to one. It is likely that Teams may spend an entire day preparing, exploring or healing injuries, in which case the day is considered 'Uneventful.'

Scrolls

The Scrolls the Team possesses at the beginning of the day. A Team must have both the Heaven and Earth Scroll and arrive at the centre of the Forest before the 5 days are up to pass.

Location

The Team's location at the beginning of the day as determined by Sector. Sectors are large and obscured enough that multiple teams can exist in the same Sector and be unaware of each other - but conflict or encounters are far more likely for teams within the same Sector.

Member Status & Wounds

Each member's health at the beginning of the day - health is abstracted into four categories (Healthy, Lightly Wounded, Moderately Wounded or Heavily Wounded) to prevent over-explanation. Please see the relevant writeups if you need more details. General expectations of a character depending on their state is as follows;

Healthy - The character is functioning at peak performance. They are either completely uninjured or the damage is so little as to be inconsequential. A character at this level has mostly full Chakra reserves, no maladies and entirely functional.

Lightly Wounded - A character at this stage is lightly injured, tired and only has most of their Chakra. They are capable of using all of their abilities, but may be more prone to exhaustion or making mistakes, they are still likely active but at a slower pace.

Moderately Wounded - A character at this stage is injured, fatigued and has around half of their Chakra. They may be incapable of using their most taxing or complex abilities without risk and are negatively impacted in almost everything they do, they are likely resting.

Heavily Wounded - A character at this stage is badly injured, exhausted and has very little Chakra left. Although technically capable of fighting, their performance is extremely diminished and may be incapable of using powerful or complex abilities entirely, they are likely bedridden.
