The click of a lock being undone and the scratch of claws on a doorknob rang through the quiet house, rousing you from your boredom-induced relaxation
As usual, there was no call from the person who'd just entered, only the shuffling of jackets and purses, clothing being taken off, and some being put on
Shifting on the couch, you looked out the window, noting the snow drifting down, so you grabbed an extra blanket
You were definitely going to need to be well-insulated for todight
There was another moment of silence, before the shuffling moved on, the fridge door opening up, or so you heard
Just like always. Next was going to be...
Sure enough, a small, scale-covered head popped out from behind a wall, big, shiny eyes looking over at you
Just wait a moment aaand...
Then the rest of the lizard appeared
Had it not been for the fact that she was essentially a shortstack, the first time the two of you met you would have originally assumed she was a kid or something
Stepping into the room, you saw her hold up a salt shaker in one claw, a bowl of hard-boiled eggs in the other
Always with the eggs with her
You never could tell if it was a lizard thing, or suggestive, or both
Hell, you didn't even know /how/ a lizard person reproduced

"I brought ssnackss~"

Came her soft, scratchy voice, holding the bowl and shaker up like a sign of good faith
You didn't say anything, obviously, but you made some space in the blanket, reaching your arms out towards her
She stepped in close, turned around, and let you pick her up, lifting her into the air, and then down onto your lap
As soon as she was sitting, she wiggled back on her butt, pressing herself up against you, her short, yet thick, tail wrapping around your waist
She lifted her two items up so you could wrap the blankets around the both of you, and then slip your arms around her, bundling her up
You hadn't known how to feel about being adopted as a living heater, but over time you'd grown to understand how shy she was, and how nervous she could be around strangers, and how having a silent pet like you could help her out a lot
You thought about revealing the fact that you could talk to her at some point, but you also didn't really want to ruin this
After all...
As she popped a salted egg into your mouth, and you glanced back out the window to the snow-covered landscape, you squeezed her a little tighter, leaning your head down and onto her shoulder, letting her feed you
This was pretty nice~

You'd grown to like the snowy days the most since it meant you got to leave the house with her on a fairly regular basis
Whether it be to the store, for a lonesome walk, or even to work, it didn't really matter much to you, you were just grateful for the time
Before the two of you would go out, you'd both bundle yourselves, and each other, up, layer upon layer of padding getting added on to the rest
You'd swear she wrapped herself in more scarves than a mummy did bandages
She always pouted when you put your own clothes on, and she'd insist you crouch down so she could zip your jacket up to the fluffy collar
It was fun to start standing up when she did it, watching her get up onto her tippy toes
Well, claws
Trying to reach the zipper to the top before falling over, just in time for you to catch her
When you were finally ready to go, she'd take her purse and you'd grab your pack and you'd head out
You knew from the start that she'd felt bad about you having to carry it, so you'd made sure to silently insist on it
Besides, it wasn't like it didn't have stuff in it that you'd like
Warm drinks, extra 'padding', hot soup, cough syrup, cough drops, tissues and more
Winter was always particularly perilous for her
Still, she was making the effort to go out and see people, even if she often wound up hiding behind you
It was actually funny, with how covered you were, you'd sometimes have Furs and Scales come up and talk to you, not realizing you were a Human!
Of course, you played dumb and didn't speak just in case of being found out, but still, it was nice just being talked to normally now and then
One of the best parts about the winters walks, though, would be when the two of you got back home, and you'd both strip off your extra layers, then snuggle up on the couch, drinking warm drinks and watching old Christmas movies

going to work with her was fun too
She worked in some sort of office, typing away on computers mainly. You couldn't really make heads or tails of it, but she seemed happy doing it
Since no one wanted her to freeze over, or hibernate or whatever lizards did, she was allowed to have you there, so long as you were a good boy and didn't cause a fuss
Because of this, you often spent a large part of your time there sitting in a big, padded chair with her on your lap, pressed up against you, typing away
Of course, given the long periods of sitting in a /very/ comfortable chair, it was easy enough to pass out and sleep around her.
Generally you hoped you'd slump backwards but, as you'd found out, you did sometimes pass out on top of her
Still, she never seemed to mind and, as you'd heard her whisper one of the times you'd woken up leaning on her

"Sso cute~"

Tough little lizard~
