Episode 9
This was the first episode where May did something useful (had her Torchic assist in defeating Team Rocket even through they were already defeated). She also showed interest in paranormal stuff, unlike Brock who was scared.
>>57371320
Man, I'm only now noticing how frequently May got handsy with Ash in AG. What was her deal?
>She also showed interest in paranormal stuff
I completely forgot that was one of her character traits.
>>57371372
Her and Max (to a lesser degree) are touchy-feely in general. This same episode she was dragging Brock around town. Then there's >>57368290
I suppose it's just her being a kid + maybe inherited some airheadness from her mom.
>>57371372
>>57371394
I think it was just that May didn't recognize personal space much. She was quick to get physical with others, be it grabbing arms or shoulders or faces. If you were in her way, she wouldn't think twice about grabbing onto you and shifting you to the side, and she'd think nothing off it while doing it.

Episode 13
So this is the episode that introduces contests. Characters-of-the-day invite May and the gang to participate and they accept for fun, but in the end they can't compete because contest capacity is full (Jessie filled in the last spot). May is bummed about it since she was somewhat interested in giving it a try, so female CotD invites her and Max to be their assistants during the first phase of the contest. Female CotD wins the whole thing, and May ends up liking contests and decides she wants to participate in them to win ribbons. She was so inspired by them that, for the first time, she defeats team rocket (mostly) on her own by steadily commanding Torchic (previous episodes would display May as sloppy when commanding Torchic). When Max notices her enthusiasm and her saying she'll participate in contests, he tells her to not forget about the upcoming Rustboro gym battle, to which she unenthusiastically agrees.
Episode 14
our girl caught a wurmple
she was also crushing on the CotD
>>57381135
>>57381143
didn't Drew treat her coldly? guess I'll find out eventually. Here, in the span of 10 minutes after meeting each other, CotD saved her from harm by grabbing her by the waist, acknowledged her determination to catch a wurmple by complimenting her, and supported her goals by helping her catch said wurmple, all while being an innocent shota.
Episode 15
gang arrives at Rustboro and they visit the pokemon school, which has a contest class program. At this point the gang still expects May to be a trainer like Ash and challenge Roxanne, not realizing that her true interest is contests. May attends the contest lectures without telling the gang, who assume May is doing whatever. May enjoys the contest lectures but drops out once a written exam is applied to the class. When she reunites with the gang they ask her what she was up to and she says 'nothing of importance'.
Episode 16
Ash is preparing for his gym battle and Max asks her sister why she's not prepping so she cringes and finally tells the gang that she won't do the gym challenge because she wants to be a pokemon coordinator after all (citing CotD from episode 13 as her inspiration), the gang is surprised but ultimately support her decision
>>57385678
I remember reading a fic that imagined May's journey without Ash, and it actually had May pressured into battling Roxanne by Max, obviously based on a reworking of this and the following episode. I remember liking it, though it was just a one-shot story.
>>57385817
Found it!
https://archiveofourown.org/works/20726066/chapters/71093658
>>57385756
I see, honestly Ash being an inspiration to May feels subtle at this point. She has shown admiration towards his dedication to being a Pokemon master, as well as him being a skilled trainer for his age. I feel like that dedication is what will lead her to find her own in contests.
Like, her liking contests is 100% because of the CotD from episode 13. But since May comes off as being half-assed/indecisive at this point, I see an AU without Ash resulting in her giving up on contests on her first failure, or her not making the decision of becoming a coordinator because she doesn't have the motivation from seeing decisive people like Ash/Brock and Max not being good moral support.
Episode 17
our girl gets an stomachache for being a silly gluton, she also goes shopping for a new swimsuit in preparation for Dewford town
even at the end of the episode she's still eating while everyone else is listening to Mr. Stone
Episode 18
our silly girl uses a decade old tourist guide thinking it was from the present year, which ends up misguiding the gang around Rustboro. Ash gets mad because he wanted to take a boat to Dewford as soon as possible, and the map had guided them to an old abandoned port.
May takes the lead to make up for her mistake, which shows progression in her character. She ends up eating pasta as a reward.
lol at the old man looking at her breasts in bottom left
Episode 19
this episode not only featured one but two May swimsuits! Sadly, the new swimsuit was torn by a bunch of sharpedos
rip new swimsuit, hope the producers of next episodes forget you were torn apart
On its introduction episode, May's wurmple was depicted as being a glutton too, so I found top left pic funny.
blessed episode
also I found it interesting that this episode hinted at Brock becoming a doctor
Episode 20
our girl is NOT a morning person
Something funny about May that I've noticed is that there are moments where she'll be a clumsy airhead, only to immediately become the most motivated girl on earth. Her innocence is appealing.
Also this episode had THAT scene, but despite that, not a lot of shots of her wearing that swimsuit, since most of the episode is Ash having his 2nd gym battle.
Episode 21
another May focused episode
we see our girl in her pajamas!
jesus christ
this is the episode where her wurmple and Jessie's switch up after a messy pokemon battle. When the girls were having a wurmple-off, Max determined both were physically the same, but when the wurmples switch up, May notices it's not her wurmple (first as a hunch then confirms it by doing a gluton test)
>bottom left
>May when she enters /mg/
she was really determined to ger her wurmple back despite emotions getting to her, and that was kinda sweet
she finally gets her wurmple back and Ash and Max compliment her determination/progression as a trainer

I really wonder if there’s any correlation between episode animation directors and her bust size because specific episodes like these especially feel biased in her favor
>>57416584
So far her bust size has been consistently big (for a 10yo). Sure, there's some frames here and there where it's massive, but on average it's like this size >>57416468
I suppose they'll start shrinking at episode +100
>>57416625
If you read the leaked character notes, they were instructed to make Zinnia stand out against May and Lisia so she got all the curves in the remake.
Episode 24
our girl is worried that her gluton wurmple isn't eating... turns out it evolves into a silcoon!
Episode 25
our silly girl pretends she's filming a documentary, when the gang encounters a waterfall, Brock throws a rope for everyone to climb it, but our girl had climbed early by using her silcoon string shot
this is a mudkip episode, and the mudkip seem to like her
bottom right is a pretty looking May
Brock befriends/catches a Mudkip
Episode 26
not a lot of May this episode, as it was a Pokemon-separate-from-their-trainers-and-are-the-protagonists episode, but she was really worried for her Torchic and Silcoon!
Episode 27
Our girl gets mad at the COTD because he was being a pussy. First time I see May being really mad!
she's FURIOUS!

BTW, since you're coming up on one, I thought I'd volunteer ideal (or ideal-ish) places to watch the movies. I'll use the episode numbers and names per the subs.
>M06 after AG036 (Protect the Maritime Museum! Raid of the Magma Gang!!)
>M07 after AG086 (The Films Riding on a Bakuda!!)
>M08 after AG134 (Mount Otsukimi! Pi and Pippi and Pixie!)
>M09 after AG183 (Apalm and the King!)
And as a bonus
>The Frightening Mirage Pokémon (special) after AG150 (The Care Centre and the Pokémon Egg!)
Episode 28
our girl silcoon evolves into a beautifly! May was really, REALLY happy about it! they also look really cute together
>>57437438
>M06 soon!
Indeed. Placing it after AG036 is a little ad hoc, but there's really no other place to put it, logically. It debuted in theaters between AG034 and AG035, but that would require May and friends to arrive in Slateport in AG033, do a filler in AG034, immediately leave to travel for the movie (which includes even more traveling in it, as the climactic location they drive to, Forina, is between Mt. Chimney and Lavaridge Town), all to just return to Slateport for the actual day of the Contest (AG035), all while May acts like she's been there the whole time. And then there's the follow-up episode that's also in Slateport (AG036). As such, the movie locations make the most sense as where May and friends go immediately after leaving Slateport, especially since AG037 opens with them already on the move toward Mauville. I think you can headcanon it that that's the direction they're heading during the M06 credits.
Episode 29
spooky episode! our girl gets spooky too!
also something that I've noticed is that, so far, May mays are the biggest when Masaki Iwane is animation director
Episode 30
our girl was a bit scared mid-episode, she knows she has a lot to live for!

Episode 33
MAY focused episode with lots of MAY content. WARNING AHEAD: MAY!
The gang arrives at slateport 2 weeks early for May's first contest. Our girl is anxious about it! So they go to the beach to practice, but it doesn't go well for May.
She's sloppy. Still a novice who can barely put a performance with no mistakes. But she's trying her best! Other than that, nothing remarkable about the episo-

SHUU MOTHERFUCKING DREW!
Drew interrupts May's training and calls her out for being ass. She of course gets mad, but the gang end up leaving the beach because it's private property from the hotel Drew is staying in. May and Ash have a sparring contest match and being the novice she is, May panics during it. Ash sort of wins the match and the COTD, who happens to be a 3 ribbon winner coordinator, arrives and compliments Ash, thinking he's an aspiring coordinator, to which May feels offended.
May introduces herself as the aspiring coordinator and the COTD gives her a pokeblock case and some tips, the most important being to keep her cool and to not panic. Off-screen, May's retarded torchic ends up eating some berries from COTD warehouse, so the gang goes to recover some from nearby trees and they end up meeting Drew again. May and Drew have a match, Drew gets the upper-hand, May starts panicking but remembers what COTD told her and gets the upper-hand instead. Battle is interrupted by TR and Drew helps the gang to stop TR.
Overall, amazing May-focused episode.
Episode 34
Our silly girl keeps preparing for the upcoming contest by training with beautifly. As she goes away to train by herself, she leaves her torchic behind with the gang. It's starting to become obvious that she's not giving torchic enough attention. Inside the pokemon center, Max mentions this to the gang and suspects she no longer finds Torchic cute/special, to which Brock and Ash say that that's impossible because Torchic is May's starter pokemon and starter pokemon are always dear to their trainer.
Nurse Joy asks the gang, specifically Max, to take care of a selection of Hoenn's starter Pokemon, as one of them will be later chosen by a young new trainer. She leaves the PC with Brock joining her to take care of a stranding Wailord that was reported by May, who found it while training in the near shore. The torchic of that selection turns out to be ferocious and tries to escape the PC. Ash and Max, joined by May's torchic and Brock's mudkip, fail at stopping the other torchic from escaping, and soon after that torchic evolves into a combusken.
Our girl gets back to the PC and asks Max for her Torchic. Turns out her torchic was pretending to be the torchic that evolved so that the new trainer wouldn't get scared/overwhelmed when seeing a combusken (Ash was making sure the new girl wouldn't choose Torchic). Max spills the beans and May reunites with torchic. In that moment, everyone notices TR is kidnapping Wailord. Combusken decisively stops team rocket, with May noticing its tremendous power. In the end, the new trainer chooses mudkip and, although unplanned, her salaryman dad chooses treecko.
ALSO SAPPHIRE CAMEO LOOK AT 2ND ROW ON THE RIGHT.
Episode 35
CONTEST DAY. Our girl is late for registration! But she arrives just in time. She's really anxious for her first contest, and even trips at the beginning of her performance when trying to release her pokemon.
Her performance was a basic frisbee play with beautifly, coupled with beautifly pulling some pretty moves at the end. Nothing too amazing, but the judges give her a good score since it's her first contest (the show host had highlighted that fact during her presentation, also, just for comparison, Drew got 29.4, May got a total 24.9).
Backstage, Drew compliments May's beautifly performance by giving May a rose. Despite her somewhat average score, May advances to the top 8 out of 50 contestants, and is of course matched against Drew. Drew gets the upper hand at the start of the battle and May starts to panic, but quickly regains composure. Despite that, Drew easily defeats her since she lacked battle experience, which even Ash notices and regrets not training her enough for battles. Backstage, our girl is crying about her defeat, saying that she can't do anything right, that she had thought contests would be a silly fun activity, but that, in the end, she feels frustrated for losing. As the gang tries to comfort her, they notice on the TV that Drew is being stomped by a contestant named Robert and his milotic. Seeing this, and feeling the frustration for losing, May gains a whole new perspective for what her goals are.
In the end, our girl cheers up and tells Drew she won't lose next time. She tells the gang that she won't cry anymore, and that she'll prove that she can be a top coordinator, who has mastered battles and raising Pokemon!
not gonna lie seeing her sad made me sad
Movie next
>>57448164
Didn't the movie anon say to do the movie after 36 for chronological reasons?
Episode 36
Ash and Max go to the slateport museum while our girl goes shopping with Brock, so she's irrelevant but cute during this episode!
How come Max never got a pokemon but there's this COTD kid with a spheal? Max should've gotten a Kanto starter at the beginning of BF. Him not getting anything makes these episodes where May is off-screen in favor of Max feel wasted. Also kind of anticlimactic for this to be a team magma episode that writes-off our girl when last episode she had a character defining moment that set her up for more development, but oh well, guess that comes later
Movie next!
Movie 06
enjoyable movie!
Our girl shows her onee-chan side a lot more, as she sings soothing melodies to Max to get him to sleep, worries for his safety to the point she tears up, and, at the face of her own possible death, tells Max to run away!
She also buys a wishmaker charm that commemorates the millennium festival: every night that the millennium comet is visible (which is 7 nights), make a wish (the same one) and fold the corresponding piece. Do this and your wish might become true!
She forgets to do this by night 7, which was the night chaos ensued. The morning after, Brock asks her about the charm, and May realizes she forgot to complete her wish, only to say that it's okay, real wishes are the ones that one day you can make yourself come true
she's wearing a new swimsuit in the credits but that one screencap is the ONLY appearance it has

Pre-contest episode!
Our girl is excited to finally have arrived at the town that will host the next contest, imagining herself as a successful winner!
When arriving at the Pokemon Center, they see lots of seasoned coordinators preparing for the contest that'll happen in 3 days. Our girl immediately loses confidence and starts doubting herself... shortly they meet the COTD, who has won 3 ribbons. She gives May advice about the importance of having synergy with successive Pokemon moves. Our girl takes her advice and next day she starts training with Beautifly with no success in synergizing moves.
ENTER
THE SHIP CAPTAIN IS BACK! Drew asks our girl, who was training with Beautifly alone, if she has won any ribbons and she asks him the same, to which he tells her that he has won 3 so far and is winning his 4th this contest. Later on, Drew meets the rest of the gang at the PC and Drew asks Ash if he's participating in the contest, to which Ash tells him that he isn't, and that they're only May cheerleaders. Drew feels the beta energy from Ash and asks him to pokemon battle him.
Drew wins. Ash kwab status confirmed
Our girl sees their pokemon battle from afar and is surprised at what happened. Drew gives a monologue about the importance of a trainer having confidence and trust in their Pokemon, otherwise their Pokemon will falter. A monologue that was directed to May, as he knew she was watching hidden in the background.
TR sub-plot has them selling phony gold/silver pokeblocks whilst disguised as merchants. The 'pokeblocks' increase sexyness/bitterness of pokemon, to the point that contest success is guaranteed. They're selling like hotcakes to amateur coordinators, and our girl, who is mentally lost and walking around town alone, happens to see their business. She seriously considers buying their pokeblocks to guarantee her contest success.
Only for the COTD to interfere by revealing TR scam and have May come back to her senses. Our girl cries after realizing how her frustration almost led her to rely on phony miracle products.
In the end, our girl recovers her confidence and helps the COTD defeat TR. Episode ends with the contest starting as Drew watches May, realizing she might've learned a thing or two about being a better coordinator in the days leading to the contest.
Episode 51
Contest time!
First phase is totally skipped... our girl scores a 25.9 out of 30. Only 4 people can qualify for phase 2, and despite Drew, COTD and Jessie scoring more than 29, our girl manages to qualify for phase 2.
May easily defeats Jessie. I'm more surprised that the COTD whipped Drew without dropping a sweat.
Even through the powerscaling would suggest that the COTD should now defeat May harder than Drew, our girl manages to win by using combined attacks and because, honestly, Beautifly hard carried this match.
In the end, our girl was surprised she won, and happily accepts her first even ribbon!
Episode 52
continuing with their adventure, our girl is still euphoric about winning her contest ribbon!
Episode 53
Skitty causing trouble!
Our girl learns that Skitty can use assist. Will this help her innovate her contest performances?
Episode 54
Route 112 episode!
The gang gets stuck in the cable car after Team Magma disables it. Only Ash manages to leave in order to help COTD stop team Magma and eventually help the gang escape the cable car, so our girl doesn't do much besides comfort Max who's scared of being trapped!
A quick summary of May up to this point: still newbish to Pokemon, especially Pokemon battles. Has goals and is eager to learn about Pokemon (especially contests) unlike her unsure first-15-episodes self. Lots of ~kamo compared to the first episodes. Has some quirky traits that aren't spammed (pretending to be a reporter, being a glutton, liking cute/spooky/obtuse stuff). Still comes off as passive when it comes to solving conflicts (unless it's an episode dedicated to her, she'll most likely do nothing, not even send our her Pokemon, and let Ash solve the problem). HUGE lack of Torchic usage. Comes off as a girl-next-door type. Doesn't have a recurring gag unlike Brock/Misty.
Episode 55
The gang arrives at Lavaridge town!
Our girl is really excited to try out the hot springs! But Ash refuses to take leisure time and wants to gym battle as soon as possible! Damn you Ash, we could've seen our girl in the hot springs!
Also this is probably the biggest May has ever been
Episode 56
So Flannery is a rookie gym leader. It's only her 3rd day on the job! Her grandad left to start a journey of his own, but immediately regretted his decision as he thought her granddaughter was going to mess up. Thankfully, in this episode, she proved to be a very capable gym leader to her grandad, even if she lost against Ash.
I believe this is the largest May's bust will be from this point on, though your journey through the episodes will provide more data on this. It's a steady decline from here until the prudes nerf her forever.
>>57601822
I see where you're coming from but if anything, Ash would've found a new companion to take care of the chores before seriously attempting to do them himself. He's battoru minded and prefers to have the free time for his goals. The same episode Brock comes back, Ash was longing for his return as he realized how key he was to his journey well-being.
As I'm re-watching AG, I notice that Ash mentor role with May is mostly passive. i.e. he inspired May on her aggressive battle style, but this was more about her seeing his battles and imitating him, rather than him having heart-to-hearts with her about battle theory. If I'm not mistaken, they haven't had a serious practice battle up to this point >>57600394
Episode 57
Spinda episode!
Following Ash 4th badge get, the gang decides to head to Petalburg for his next gym battle. May and Max are happy that they get to see their parents again soon! Max even tells Ash that it's impossible that dad loses to Ash. Afterwards, a Spinda with a heart-shapped fur appears... and disappears! CotD asks the gang for help in catching the Spinda, and our girl is eager to help!
>>57601534
She didn't have a definite personality trait for me. Some genki in here, lots of clumsiness in ep55 but that was her theme for the episode. Her only 'fired up' moment was at the beginning of ep55, but it's played as a joke since her robes end up literally burning, implying she's overcompensating for being a rookie. Maybe she shows more of her genki fired up side in the future once she gets comfortable on the job. I don't think she had an accent? Just a tomboyish voice. Ultimately, she just struck me as a strong/genki type who's in the path of finding her fire] through her newfound gym leader position, and also living up to her granpa legacy. Fun fact in BW2 it's revealed her grandpa was an E4.
>>57602881
Yes, most likely have Roxanne join. She's already written to be a talented upstanding person, so doing chores is probably around her alley too. But you said it yourself: Ash is not a chores guy and that role is always assigned to the adult of the group, by nature of japanese traditions / expectations, etc.
>>57608931
>>57608303
May is the first companion to have goals that are relevant to the journey pathway. So far her contests have conveniently been in towns that are on the way to the next gym. Only (small) conflict so far was after Ash won the dynamo badge. He wanted to immediately go to Lavaridge, but there was a contest in Fallarbor. He had a brief moment of selfishness of wanting to skip Fallarbor, but Brock reasoned with him without much trouble under the argument that Fallarbor was on the way to Lavaridge.
Episode 58
Valley of steel episode!
On their way to Petalburg, the gang first has to arrive to Mauville. They seem to get lost and end up going through a canyon filled with territorial steel Pokemon. A wild Torkoal that was passing by is attacked and the gang comes to its rescue! Only to be attacked by the wild steel Pokemon too! With Torchic being the only type advantage they have against these Pokemon, under Max recommendation, May takes the lead in defending everyone!
However... the steel Pokemon are ferocious and our girl little Achamo is not enough to hold them back! This results in the first instance of our girl being in a life-threatening situation! She even (and I think this is a first too) gets directly attacked by the wild Pokemon!
Very serious situation. First 10-episodes May would've definitely died there, but our girl stayed strong!
Also I think this is the first time Torchic has appeared since episode 47 holy shit
>>57612859
Sure anon. Whatever interesting happens I'll surely mention it.
Yes, he directed his frustration of losing at the gang, but nothing too serious since in the same episode he comes to his senses and apologizes. Only moment in AG so far that gave me immature Kanto Ash vibes.
In the end, Ash saves May by almost holding her hand Advanceshippers where you at? and the wild Torkoal from early steps up with Ash to defeat the territorial leader Steelix! Ash gets a blackfacing Torkoal!
Gonna start filling the blank screencap spots with the Flannery ones I took
Episode 59
The gang arrives at Mauville!
Upon arriving, they see a carnival open and the gang decides to have some fun with all their Pokemon! However, it was TR ploy all along and they steal all their Pokemon. Unable to do anything, they're saved by Wattson and Watt.
Watt notices May's Skitty and invites her to have a battle at the gym, along with Ash accepting a battle from Wattson. She surprisingly accepts despite Watt being a replacement gym leader. Skitty vs Ampharos, and despite May being the underdog, Skitty wins! May starting to show some confidence and not succumbing to battle nerves. However, Ash loses his battle against Wattson KWAB.
In the end, Watt tells May about a contest being held in Verdanturf town soon, and since it's on the way to Petalburg, the gang sets to Verdanturf for May's next contest!

To Verdanturf!
As the gang heads to Verdanturf for May's next contest, they fall for TR classic trap hole! May sends out Skitty and Ash sends out Torkoal to counterattack, but Skitty gets injured during the battle and her voice is gone! After TR is defeated, the gang goes to the closest town for a PC, but turns out there's no PC in said town but a Pokemon clinic...
As the gang arrives to the clinic, they meet Ayane-san, a composed and experienced Doctor that masterfully treats May's Skitty. As Ash inspects Ayane's clinic, he finds a photo of her with a Skitty holding... a Grand Festival cup?!?
Turns out Ayane is a legendary coordinator that in the past won the Grand Festival. Shortly after her victory, as she kept traveling, she was challenged by a trainer and her Skitty (named Johnny in the sub, lol) was seriously injured. She found the same clinic she's working in to treat her Johnny and ever since that experience she decided to become a Doctor under Dr. Masuda guidance.
As our girl finds out Ayane is that legendary coordinator, she starts fangirling hard on her and Ayane gives her some fan service, teaching May's Skitty a routine she used with Johnny during her coordinator days, etc. She also shows the gang her ribbons, cups, etc. and tells them her backstory.
Of course, TR eventually comes back and steals Johnny and May's Skitty, resulting in a pursuit that ends with Ayane showing her mastery as a trainer / coordinator by showing Johnny move diversity (thunderbolt, solar beam, blizzard, etc.). Wanting May to learn from this moment, Ayane asks May to command her Skitty to use Blizzard. May of course thinks it won't work, and while it initially doesn't, after their 3rd try, it does. May's Skitty can now use Blizzard!
TR is defeated, and May, inspired by Ayane, decides that she'll use Skitty for her next contest!
Ayane was really cool, when she performed the ball juggling trick with May's Skitty it worked first try, but when May tried it back it didn't work. Ayane showed no frustration and knew it would take time for Skitty to master it, but May was frustrated at the first fail, showing a clear distinction between master and rookie. How masters know perfection takes practice and time, and have the patience and discipline to keep trying, but noobies tend to get frustrating if things don't go their way immediately. Overall really good episode, wish Ayane became a semi-regular for the rest of Hoenn instead of being a CotD.

Pre-contest episode!
Drew jobs to the mysterious coordinator Phantom KWAB , so he'll be unable to participate in Verdanturf contest. The mysterious Phantom turns out to be... a sheltered rich kid whose mom hates Pokemon?!? The gang helps the kid deal with his controlling mother in order for him to pull off that mask and leave no survivors in the upcoming contest!
Also Ash uses a normal type attack on a ghost type KWAB
Episode 62
May 3rd ever contest!
During the performance phase, Skitty fails to perform a full power blizzard, so our girl improvises a ball juggling performance to make up for the initial blunder. May doubts she'll make it past the 1st round, but despite the unflashy performance, our girl manages to advance to the battle phase. After beating the npc and advancing to the finals, she gets to finally battle Phantom!
Okay so this was quite underwhelming. Despite Phantom beating Drew and almost beating Ash with little to no difficulty, here he's of course nerfed and the battle plays out in a dumb way. Basically, they go move by move. First Skitty uses blizzard and fails to use it at full power again, so our girl commands Skitty to use normal type moves, which of course don't work againt ghost type Dusklops. Dusklops lands multiple fighting type moves and an hyper beam, and despite all that Skitty keeps going without much trouble. Now, logically, you would think May knows she can use assist / cat-paw to start attacking, but the narrative here was that she didn't think of it (and neither did the gang, who were narrating/spectating the match), so when she finally realizes she should use assist, it's played-off as an enlightening moment that turns the tide of the battle in her favor. And despite Dusklops clearly being a bigger powerhouse than Skitty, after tying the score, our girl decides to use blizzard and this time it works, so it collides with Dusklops hyper-beam and it overpowers it, resulting in Phantom defeat.
So yeah there it is. 2nd ribbon getto kamo!

Solrock mexican episode!
A village is going through a drought, and the local superstitious grandma suspects it's because of a nearby wild Solrock! Her granddaughter believes there's a more logical explanation to it, so our girl helps her find the answer! It was TR

More like she's being mishandled a lot.
May is a rookie trainer and coordinator. She's given a rival that's leagues above her. Similar to Gary being leagues above Ash I guess? This rival easily defeats her on her first contest, so one would expect this rival to not appear for a while until our girl has made some progress on her own, like with Gary and Ash, but no. Drew appears the very next contest, defeats Ash in a battle, and then... JOBS to a COTD?!? Then May defeats that COTD despite that being her 2nd ever contest and having little to no battle experience at that point either?!? And now that happens again on her 3rd contest but with some changes, Drew jobs to COTD -> Ash almost jobs to COTD -> May defeats COTD.
It all would make sense if May was given lots of focus episodes with Ash training her or her practicing/training on her own or with other trainers, but then again, Ash / Brock mentoring is mostly passive and all of her training moments are about the performances. About that, want to know something funny? The performances of her 2nd and 3rd contest are 90% skipped!
It would also make sense if the narrative was now changed to May being an innate coordinator genius, but that isn't the case. Drew is still smug towards her. She's still portrayed as somewhat of a rookie, etc.

May focused episode!
A cute swablu separates from its flock after a thunderstorm causes their nest tree to fall. The next day, the gang finds the injured pokemon, who's traumatized from last night experience and retaliates with sing. Torchic communicates with the swablu letting it know that they're here to help.
Seeing the injured swablu seems to trigger May motherly instincts, as she takes the lead in taking cae of the injured pokemon. A local pokemon ranger provides the gang with temporary housing, as the gang has decided to stay in the area to take care of the swablu until it recovers.
As the bird pokemon starts recovering from its wounds, a new problem arises. Swablu isn't able to fly because of its trauma from the thunderstorm. So the gang starts teaching the pokemon to fly again with the help of Tailow and Beautifly.
After trying to teach the pokemon to fly again without much success. Max comes with an idea of using placeboo on the bird by convincing it that it can fly with Beautifly 'magic' dust. It works, and it's then when TR makes its episodic 'steal the pokemon' interference.
As TR escapes with swablu. May commands swablu to use sing to make TR go sleep. It works but as James starts falling asleep he commands cacnea to use missile needle, which cacnea does while falling asleep, damaging the burners of the Meowth balloon, making it start bursting into flames. May apologizes to swablu about the placeboo method and commands it to fly away from the scene. But swablu is reminded of the events of the thunderstorm and freezes in fear. As the balloon is about to explode, an emotional May commands swablu again to fly away, which it does.
As TR is defeated. The gang heads into a lake in which the ranger spotted the swablu flock. As they arrive, they don't see the flock, thinking they missed it because of TR setback.
Our girl makes the decision to have swablu join her party until they find its flock. Max and the gang are happy about the decision, as May and swablu have really bonded since she started nursing it.
However, at the last moment, the swablu flock comes back. May accepts that it's best for swablu to go with them rather than joining her, and so she says farewell to its friend, as she starts tearing up.
Amazing episode. It made me cry a tear. Our girl is an amazing trainer and person.
