/uma/ New Trainer Primer

Disclaimer: This is for Umamusume EN. I'm a fellow global newbab but this should be enough to answer most questions newfags may have.

The slaughter of lucklets has begun. 0.5% btw.

What is the gameplay like?

It's a raising sim. Basically a roguelite but instead of dungeon diving, everything is themed around horse racing here. More on this at the end.

Rates?

3% SSR. No pity, Spark at 200 rolls, or 30k carats.

How to reroll/Which banner to reroll on/Who to reroll for?

It runs on emulators now, I've personally confirmed with LDPlayer, Mumu and Google Play Games Beta. You can use those to multiinstance and reroll.
If you reroll on steam it automatically links your account, so you can't reroll for a friend for example.
To enter faster, click Cancel when it asks to download Additional Data the first time, click to bring it up again and Accept, this lets you skip the login bonus popups. Once you're in, claim the carats from the gift icon, then Scout in the bottom right to roll.

Meta Alert

Kitasan Black One of the meta must-have support cards you reroll for, the Kitasan Black SSR Support Card, is currently up. But here's the kicker: it only gets really good starting at LB3, but you should still try to get what you can and wait for the rerun for more. Don't lose your hair by rerolling for LB3. I got 1 drop+1 spark for LB1 in 200

Meta Alert Ends

In the absence of any meta cards currently being up, you'll have to roll on the Support Card Scout banner (generic banner for Support Cards) if its up, as there are no permanent generic banners. If it isn't up, there's probably a Spotlight Support Scout banner (rate up banner for Support Cards), and ask if just getting the rate ups are better. If not, proceed below:
You reroll for Super Creek SSR Support Card and/or Fine Motion SSR Support Card. The difference according to oldfags is that Fine Motion is more generalist but falls off faster while Super Creek is good for longer. Either way most rerolled for one or both, so it's not hard to find one to borrow.
Super Creek        Fine Motion Super Creek SSR Support Card    Fine Motion SSR Support Card To reroll, Menu in the top right of Home lobby > To Title Screen > hamburger icon in the bottom right > Delete User Data, rinse repeat.

I hear there's a free 3* selector, where is it?

The 3* selector is in Shop > Voucher Exchange, but you should use it after any random 3* tickets, if there's any available.
As for who to use the selector 3* on, Oguri Cap is a safe option assuming you didn't roll her.

Free SSR Support Cards?

You get a free SSR Support Card after completing each chapter of the Story. Story > Main Story
Additional copies can be purchased with Club points in Shop > Club Point Exchange

Okay, I'm done rerolling. Now what?

Click Race in the bottom right > Team Trials > Team Race.
This is Pvp and you start a random match (spam See Result) to get placed so you can see the Leaderboards. Click on the i in a circle next to the rank > All for the top players > Profile > i in a circle next to their name > Follow
Follow a few and borrow their Umamusume and Support Card to boost your Career runs.

Which uma/stats/skills/strat do I pick?

The basic strategy is to farm friendship points early on so you can have tons of rainbows in your second and third year for lots of training boosts. For the URA Finale scenario this chart is a good rule of thumb to beat it:
Alt Tag Alt Tag
Sakura Bakushin O aka "Bakushin" is perhaps the simplest and easiest: Start with speed cards (filter for Front), just train Speed and Wit, pick Front strategy and run to victory.
OTOH, Gold Ship, Rice Shower, and Haru Urara are probably the hardest, especially if you barely know what you're doing.
Note: Guts is apparently a useless stat for now, at least until EN gets the reworked version so don't train it. Do Stamina instead.
Note: The URA qualifier/semi/finals races (comes after you finish all character goal races) are based on your most frequently run races, including goal races.

Where do I find more info?

Training/Support Cards/Scenario choices: https://gametora.com/umamusume/training-event-helper
Skills list: https://gametora.com/umamusume/skills
Support Card list: https://gametora.com/umamusume/supports
Race list for umas: https://gametora.com/umamusume/race-scheduler
Note: Click the gear icon in the top right and select the Global database so the name of events and skills match.
Note 2: Seeing the result of choices ingame is a feature on JP, so presumably it'll come to EN too.
Skills tier list: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1oB3eTvKqREtJDWJL0q80O_VjBcpOmRl5xE0z5fZKgFY
The Uma Musume Reference Document, a doorstopper with pretty much every mechanic in the game. Consult the Global version to not load 240~ pages each time.
Or just ask in the thread.

Any notable events aside from Support Card/Trainee ones?

There's a RNG raffle at Senior Year Early Jan, where if you get the grand prize (onsen tickets) you get a bonus scene after winning the Scenario.
There's also a crane game that tests your skill, it shows up after Recreation once a year starting from Year 2 (Classic). See the reference doc.
The acupuncturist event has different effects for each option, it's listed on the training event helper/ref doc listed above. (Pick option 2 or 4)

What does mean?

The race tracks are all based on RL courses, but for gameplay purposes Right/Left means the direction you run the track (matters for skills like Right-Handed/Left-Handed). Inner/Outer means absolutely nothing, it's just flavor text for which track on a course you're running on. Horse race courses aren't just one track, there may be a turf and a dirt one, it may come with a section to add length if needed, etc. The rest are race conditions and how many umas are racing. Gametora has info on segments of each possible race if you're hyperautistic (no one cares about this).
Fine Motion
The RL course. Green is Turf. Right is what your umas run on in the above example: Start at the red flag, a loop around the oval and end at the checkers.

I need more skill points/popularity what do I do?

Race. As in, race outside of the goal races.
Note that doing 3 consecutive races will not reduce your uma's stats, but there is a chance of an event that lowers mood and you get a status that lowers it even more. If your 3rd race is a goal race, this won't happen.

I might lose a goal race is it over?

Depends, so long as you meet the GOAL you advance. You don't have to win them all, some are basically scripted losses like Vodka's Arima Kinen race, which has no mention of placement. As for Tazuna's predictions, she doesn't always get it right. Do not trust Green Woman.

What do purple skills mean?

Purple skills are debuffs, but instead of fixing it at the Infirmary like you would with bad conditions, you have to pay skill points to get rid of it.

What to look out for in the future?

Christmas Oguri Cap The next meta must-have umamusume you should save up for is Oguri Cap (Christmas), which we're probably not getting at Christmas.
Apparently she's the first major powercreep and pvp won't be the same without her. Note she shared a double banner with Biwa Hayahide (Christmas).

Daily reset?

15:00 UTC / 11:00 ET / 10:00 CT / 8:00 PT
Note that Team Trials will be locked out 5 hours before weekly reset, thus cucking you out of dailies, get it done before then.

What about Events?

There's no "stages/levels" to clear in this game's events. There's story, event missions and a reward chart which you progress by accumulating enough Career Points which you get by doing Career runs.

Roguelite?

Let me explain by analogy:
In a generic dungeon diving RPG...
You start a Run by first selecting your Dungeon. Each Dungeon is different and has it's own overarching story, the starting Water Dungeon is about A cult trying to awaken Cthulhu. The goal is to go as far as you can and beat Cthulhu.
Then you select your character and starting loadout, this includes Previous Runs (yours and a friend's) to give you a bonus in stats and skills/perks. Then there's Equipment (yours and a friend's) which mainly determines what skills/perks are available for you to buy.
Characters have their own storylines too, and their goals along the way to beat Cthulhu are different. For example, the Arcanist seeks to learn the rituals for himself while the Government Agent seeks to bury the whole place.
You have X turns to prepare for the next Floor, and spend it on a variety of choices: Train improves your stat of choice, Rest recovers Energy, Fight gives you skill points, etc.

In Umamusume...
You start a Career by first selecting your Scenario. Each Scenario is different and has it's own overarching story, the starting URA Finale Scenario is about Akikawa starting a new race. The goal is to go as far as you can and beat the URA Finals.
Then you select your umamusume and starting loadout, this includes Legacies (yours and a friend's) to give you a bonus in stats and skills/perks. Then there's Support Cards (yours and a friend's) which mainly determines what skills/perks are available for you to buy.
Umamusumes have their own storylines too, and their goals along the way to beat URA are different. For example, Daiwa Scarlet's is about her rivalry with Vodka and wanting to be #1 while Sakura Bakushin O seeks to run in more than just sprints.
You have X turns to prepare for the next Race, and spend it on a variety of choices: Train improves your stat of choice, Rest recovers Energy, Race gives you skill points, etc.

How do I join a club?

Your account needs to be at rank E3 first. F > E1 > E2 > E3
You can find a list of clubs in the thread or just ask. Note that if the club has changed their name or is currently full, it will not show up in the club search results.

How do I get the funny Bakushin song?

Either wait for Bakushin herself to randomly request it, or someone from your club does.
