The Turtle Clan

One of the Great Animal Clans, the Turtle Clan is so ancient that no outsiders can trace when it was first formed and, as far as they know, the Turtle Clan has always existed since their first records. The Turtle Clan Progenitor is said to be the oldest living being in the world. The Turtle Clan loves peace and neutrality and has never been at war, at least according to outside records. The clan tries its best to keep the peace and often mediates conflicts.

All its members have very long lifespans, but most of them are weak and have never fought. Due to their long lifespans, all in the Turtle Clan are wise and patient. The longer one's lifespan, the higher one's age, and the wiser one is, the more respect one gains in the eyes of the clan, to the point where outsiders with sufficiently long lifespans, high ages, or wisdom are automatically treated as respected guests and some are even invited to join as honorary clan members.

The clan has many summoning contracts, but the vast majority are for the contracted Turtle to teach, provide wisdom, or mediate conflict and not fight because most members of the Turtle Clan are risk adverse and dislike fighting. Summoning contracts for combat are rarely accepted and always come with a huge price.

Some Turtles that want to experience something other than the idyllic life of Turtle Mountain go out for varying amounts of time to see the world. The most famous example is Sage Genbu who resides in the Land of Lightning.

Turtle Mountain

The biggest mountain in the world and immensely abundant in resources, it has made the Turtle Clan prosperous and need nothing from the rest of the world, encouraging the clan's passive lifestyle. Everywhere, there is lush vegetation and friendly animals. The surrounding area is also part of the Turtle Clan's territory and includes a beach connected to the ocean and underwater facilities for the members that are of a more aquatic nature. There are also facilities that cater to visitors, mostly members from other animal clans.

The entry condition is simple: there is something unknown to outsiders that detects whether one has malicious intent against the clan; if one does not trigger it, they may enter without obstruction. Many people disappear without a trace around Turtle Mountain every year...

Relationship with Other Animal Clans

The Turtle Clan has nearly universally good relations with the other animal clans.

Fox Clan

Many Foxes try really, really hard to annoy the Turtles, but the Turtles are one of the only Clans capable of ignoring their shenanigans so hard that the Foxes get angry with them for being too chill. Some of the Turtles think the Foxes are cute distractions to their uneventful (but content) lives and casually strike up conversations with them while others are somewhat annoyed but perfectly capable of ignoring them. The Turtle Clan overall thinks the Fox Clan should do more productive things with their time.

Spider Clan

The Turtle Clan disapproves of the Spider Clan's "unnatural selection via things killing each other" philosophy but knows how they came to be like that: because Spiders lay hundreds of eggs every time, their cruel way of life started as a necessity and then became their culture. The Turtle Clan tries to minimize the damage the Spider Clan causes but keeps its meddling to a minimum for neutrality, which the Spider Clan appreciates.

Bird Clan

The Turtle Clan often works together with the Bird Clan to ensure peace, the difference being that the former rarely takes sides and mostly acts as mediators while the latter fights and enacts their justice. Turtles sometimes restrain Birds to prevent them from doing anything hasty.

Turtle Clan Techniques

The Turtle Clan has many defensive and longevity techniques. They mostly rely on the body as a foundation and not much else, so most other races can use their techniques with some adjustments, but those proficient in taijutsu are of course the most suited. Warriors, monks, taijutsu experts, and longevity seekers and are the most common students of the Turtle Sages.

Sage Techniques

Indestructible Shell

A technique based on Turtle shells, it circulates natural energy around the body to grow a skintight unobtrusive protective layer, a "shell", around the user's entire body. While having a strong body is technically not required to be able use this technique, the shell is heavily influenced by the user's body, so using this technique with a weak body is pointless because it would have minimal effect. The shell provides incredible defense against all forms of damage. Skilled users* can form it in a way that it disperses much of the incoming force across the entire shell to make it very resistant against focused attacks in one area and defense bypassing attacks. The Turtle Clan Progenitor's shell is said to be truly indestructible.

Immovable Pillar (Requires: Chakra Cloak)

A technique that connects the user with the Chakra Cloak's aura and the aura with the surrounding natural energy to make the user almost immovable by outside forces. Skilled users* can use their aura and the natural energy in their surroundings to slow the movement of things around them up to the point of complete stagnation while they retain full mobility. The slowing effect is stronger the closer something is to the user.

*Usually Perfect Sages.
