Shifts In Time and Thanks
A Special Addition to Thanksgiving Shifted Time
Thanksgiving dinner has ended and a wonderful day with the family has come to a close. The turkey you cooked for the family hit the highest note ever, even considering the many years of turkey dinners you have cooked over the years.
The turkey was so good, guests seemed ready to fight over the leftovers! You take little comfort in that, though your pride tells you, "That's right turkey lady, you are a boss."
Before leaving your daughter's home where her husband and three children reside, you distribute the remaining cuts in less-than-classy plastic bags. You smile all the while, not for the dinner, but for the families interaction with your boyfriend.
You want to scoff at the word. A woman my age, you think. I've been married, raised children, cleaned toilets, and lost loved ones. Should I call him my boyfriend? Whatever he is, the family likes him, and that's a win.
You hand your granddaughter, Elkie, her bag of meat and head for the door. Your boyfriend, Burt Thurman, follows behind.
"Bye, Grandma!" you hear from your grandsons.
"Call you tomorrow, Mom," your daughter calls out to you. "We need to talk."
You frown. She'll want to talk about Burt, to find out how serious you've gotten with him.
You decide to:
Tell your daughter to stuff it
or
Tell your daughter you'll call her first
or
Pretend you didn't hear your daughter
