Kirin sees a non-septimal human walking down the street, she's holding one hand to her chest and has a panicked look on her face. She runs up beside her and takes hold of her elbow, "What is it? Are you all right?" She asks in his deep voice.
The non-septimal woman looks even more scared, she's wearing a black dress that falls to just above her knees. She stutters out a few words before finally blurting out, "I... I'm not dead." Kirin chuckles at this and replies with a smile, "Good!"
The woman looks like she needs some reassurance so Kirin wraps an arm around her shoulders, she can feel the tension drain from her body as they walk together. The woman is shaking, she's easily chilled through her thin dress but she doesn't seem bothered by the cold. As they're walking, Kirin asks her to tell him about herself, she wants to know everything because she finds her interesting. She learns she used to be married to another non-septimal and when he was killed in a robbery, she became a courier for the wealthiest people in the city. She had been doing this job for many years when she received a message from a man who claimed he could make her rich beyond belief if she would meet him alone in an alleyway late at night. She agreed and went along with his plan, which ended up being him killing her husband and then her. She survived, but the man faced no consequences since non-septimals didn't have any rights in the city. Her parents were Adepts and had disowned her, so she lived out the rest of her life in poverty.
Kirin thought this was pretty funny, especially hearing how she was tricked into signing away the rights to her own children. Kirin walked away from the cold woman, letting her continue on her way. She felt bad but knew there wasn't much he could do for her other than let her die so her suffering ended faster. It'd be cruel to prolong it.
