FAQ:
- Who is Hoshimachi Suisei?
A Virtual YouTuber who was originally an indie who started in 2018 but would then join hololive's music label INNK Music, and then she would later join as a member of hololive's "Generation 0" after December 2019. Her dream is to perform in the Budoukan one day, and this dream was accomplished on February 1st 2025.
- Why are people fans of her?
A variety of reasons: 1- her songs; 2- her charisma; 3- her story, which inspires people.
- She seems to have a big overseas fanbase in comparison to other hololiveJP members, why?
Multiple reasons. Singing is a universal language, everybody understands that, clips of her are relatively famous and that attracts people, her reactions are easy to gauge even if you don't understand the language, etc.
As of February 2026, she was added as a skin in Fortnite, further pushing her mindshare in the west.
- Cometomo or hoshiyomi?
When Suisei was an indie VTuber, her fanbase was called cometomo. In 2019, she joined INNK, the music label made by Cover Corp and her fanbase name changed from cometomo to hoshiyomi.
- Why did the fanbase's name change?
After joining INNK, she asked her manager if she should change the fanbase name to something else since she thought "it will sound similar to 'soratomo'(Tokino Sora's fanbase)", the manager said yes, and so, the fanbase name changed to hoshiyomi. She didn't realize at the time that different hololive members, like Oozora Subaru, already had XXX-tomo as fanbase name.
She sometimes refers to the fanbase as cometomo when talking about her indie days fans to make a clear distinction between the pre-INNK fanbase and the post-INNK fanbase.
- Where do I begin to watch her?
This is a good 30 minutes mini-documentary that explains her backstory: https://youtu.be/LZ87zuPkqMs
Karaokes are also a good place to start watching her, although they are becoming more rare these days (May 2023). Listening to her originals songs, in general, is a good start.
- What's the deal with Tetris?
She likes the game, she began to play it because of her mother when she was a child, Suisei practiced, and she got gradually better at it. Now, it's one of those games that became part of her streaming sessions and one of her defining traits.
- Is it true that she's Russian/Russian descendant?
No, it was a joke made several years ago, before she became Hoshimachi Suisei, related to her being good at Tetris. People took it too literally.
- I've noticed her voice changed, why?
She went to visit a doctor because she had throat problems, Suisei was told that her old voice was putting a lot of strain on her vocal cords. To make sure that she could continue streaming for a long time and, more importantly, singing, she decided to switch to a more natural tone. - What was the surgery she had for?
She had nodes around her vocal chords that made her have dripping nose, and could affect her singing. These nodes may come back in the future and will need to be taken care of again. - How did the psychopath meme started?
When she was still in INNK, she played with other hololive members to Project Winter. There, she showed a "psychopathic" behavior, check clip below.

- If Suisei were to leave hololive, would she keep the character?
It would depend on the contract that was signed when she joined Cover Corp. Of course, only Suisei knows the exact details and what she gave up when she joined. We only know that Cover Corp owned IPs are publicly available but, according to Japanese copyright laws, she can't legally give up her full rights to the character. The model she currently uses belongs to Cover Corp though, she'd probably have to make a new one if she were to leave hololive.
- Why does Suisei spell Suichan as Suityan? Is there any difference?
It's Suichan if you use Hepburn romanization of Japanese characters, and Suityan if you use Nihon-shiki/Kunrei-shiki romanizations (these are commonly used in Japan, as they were pushed by their government, contrary to Hepburn which somewhat reflects spellings of certain characters in English). Either way, if you are using Japanese IME, it doesn't matter whether you type in Suichan or Suityan, because it will always be すいちゃん. - Who is Anemachi?
Anemachi is Suisei's older sister. She sometimes appears in the background of her streams or as a special guest in certain occasions. She likes yaoi and talks to her stuffed animals when she's alone. She had the dream of becoming an idol, but she passed it to Suisei. Amane Kanata said that Anemachi and Suisei look extremely alike except for the chest, Anemachi's are bigger. This is a nice compilation up to the June 9th 2021

Regarding her family, there is also Hahamachi who often watches Suisei's streams, is a member of her channel and speaks enough English to be able to scold Suisei from time to time, although she's not a teacher she knows enough. Her dad also watches the streams but not that often, he's aloof and stoic. Despite this, both are extremely happy for Suisei's career.
- Has she sung XXX before?
Maybe, check here https://onedrive.live.com/View.aspx?resid=E922DECAF3C56D56!141&authkey=!AH8qGef-m89oEU8 (discontinued as of March 2025) Alternatively, ask in the thread or check Kojimateru (https://youtube.com/@kojimateru) and search for the song you want in Japanese.
- What's Suisei's stance on gachikois?
She isn't against them and doesn't mind them, but can't nor will pander to them since she doesn't want to treat any fan differently. Wants people to remember that it will always be a one-sided love. - Why should I keep watching her?
A reason to keep watching her, even after she accomplished so much, is to see how far she'll go. There are dreams that she still wants to accomplish to make vtubers mainstream, like joining the NHK Kohaku Uta Gassen competition and performing at the Tokyo Dome. - What's Studio STELLAR?
Studio STELLAR is a joint venture between Cover Corp and NERD Inc, not a Cover Corp subsidiary. Its purpose is to manage Suisei's solo career, concerts, music, solo events, and for her to be able to have less bureaucracy when making decisions. Read https://finance.biggo.com/news/jpx_tdnet_140120260323586039 and https://cover-corp.com/en/news/detail/c2026032201 for further information. - What's NERD Inc?
NERD Inc is an artist agency that works alongside independent artists like NIO, Masato Yokoyama, Mimicry Meta, Taku Inoue, and Midnight Grand Orchestra in Japan. - Who owns Studio STELLAR?
It's an independent conjoined venture between Cover Corp and NERD Inc, but Suisei is still part of hololive. It's unclear how the ownership is structured. We only know that she paid for a part of the agency's creation. - Is she still part of hololive?
Yes, of course she is still part of hololive. Cover Corp owns the commercial IP. NERD Inc only manages the solo side of Suisei. - Will it change something?
For the viewers, nothing will change. For her, it will make the managerial side less bureaucratic and more straightforward.
