She winced at my question, then shook her head. "The gods of mortals won't answer my prayers, no. It's my own magic I'm using. But I'd love nothing more than to earn the title one day. 'Paladin' has a nice ring to it, don't you think?" It was unfair how gorgeous she was! Her skin, soft and flawless, her figure, even hidden by the plate she wore—and of course, there was her smile. Too bright, too sincere and selfless. I hated it. I wanted to believe her, but it couldn't be true. "Say, any chance you're grateful enough to give me a quick peck on the cheek? Just a little one won't kill you… probably."
"You're really asking?"
Her cheeks darkened with blush. "Well, yeah! I can't really force myself on mortals in good conscience, can I? But a girl's gotta eat. It's been three days since my last meal." Her expression shifted. She looked, well… hungry. "I'll die soon. Last few times I fed, it was on demons just before they died. But even that felt… well, ugly. Cruel and wrong."
I shrug. "A kiss couldn't hurt. And it would be wrong to just let you die." You lean in and give her a nice little peck on the cheek.
Selvriss smiled as your lips brushed against her cheek, a shudder of pleasure running through her body. She felt the smallest trickle of your life force flow into her, reinvigorating and nourishing her. "Thank you," she murmured softly, her voice husky. "You have no idea how much that means to me."
She took a step back, appraising you with those glowing emerald eyes. Despite the hunger still evident in her gaze, there was genuine gratitude and warmth there too. "I suppose introductions are in order. I am Selvriss. And you are…?"
The succubus held out a gauntleted hand expectantly, her posture open and friendly. Yet you couldn't help but notice the subtle way she shifted her weight, ready to spring into action at a moment's notice. Old habits died hard, especially for a creature that had spent centuries preying on mortals.
You hesitated a moment before clasping her hand firmly and giving your name.
"I am Bianca."
Her grip was strong but not crushing, her armor surprisingly warm to the touch. "A pleasure to make your acquaintance," Selvriss said with a dazzling smile. "I only wish it were under better circumstances."
She glanced around at the carnage and destruction surrounding you both, her expression darkening. "This senseless violence, this cruelty and evil… it's everything I'm fighting against now. I want to prove that even a demon can choose a righteous path." Selvriss met your gaze intently. "Will you help me? I can heal your wounds, guard your back, but I need allies if I'm to make a real difference in this war. What do you say?"
I smile up at her. "Let's do it."
Passion ignited in Selvriss' eyes at your words. "Excellent! Together, we shall be a force for good that no demon can withstand!" She glanced around at the scattered remains of friend and foe alike strewn across the battlefield. "But first, we should see to your fallen comrades. They fought bravely and deserve a proper burial."
The two of you spent the next hour gathering the bodies of your kindred, laying them out in neat rows. Selvriss used her magic to excavate a mass grave while you collected their dog tags and weapons to return to their families. It was grim work, but necessary. These soldiers had given their lives to protect the innocent - they deserved to be honored and remembered.
As you placed the last body in the grave, Selvriss spoke a prayer in a language you didn't recognize, her melodic voice resonating with power. A soft glow suffused the fallen warriors and then seemed to sink into the earth itself. "There," she said solemnly. "Now their souls can rest easy, knowing their sacrifice was not in vain."
Selvriss smiled at you warmly, but there was an intensity behind it, an unquenchable hunger - and not just for the intimacy she needed to survive. No, this was a hunger for justice, for redemption… and perhaps something more. "Well, let's get to it then. Plenty of baddies to slay, and all that."
With that, she strode forward, her armor gleaming in the fading light and her massive sword slung over her shoulder. You had to quicken your pace to keep up, a thrill of excitement and trepidation running through you.
We continued walking for hours, the rugged terrain gradually giving way to a dusty road winding through the foothills. As the sun began to set, painting the sky in vivid oranges and reds, Selvriss slowed her pace and glanced over at me with a mischievous glint in her eye.
"You know, Bianca, I couldn't help but notice how much you seemed to enjoy our little 'energy transfers' earlier," she purred, her voice low and seductive. "If I didn't know better, I'd think you had a thing for dangerous women."
Despite myself, I felt a blush creep into my cheeks. There was no denying the allure of the succubus, even if my rational mind screamed at me to keep my distance. "I'm just trying to keep you alive," I muttered, not quite meeting her gaze. "Don't read too much into it."
Selvriss laughed, a throaty, sensual sound that sent shivers down my spine. "If you insist. But I must say, your life force is positively delectable. So vibrant and pure…" She licked her lips, her eyes smoldering with barely contained hunger.
Flustered, I quickened my pace, eager to put some distance between us. But Selvriss matched my stride effortlessly, her armor clinking softly with each step. "I jest, Bianca. Mostly. But in all seriousness, we should think about making camp soon. Even with your delicious little pick-me-ups, I'll need to rest and recover my strength."
She scanned the surrounding area, then pointed to a small copse of trees just off the road. "That looks like a decent spot. Defensible, with good sight lines. What do you think?"
I nodded curtly, still not trusting myself to speak. Surely, even if I asked for… that, she wouldn't want to? Having just come into the Light of goodness?
