Sword of Convallaria Newbie Guidebook

FAQ

What is Sword Of Convallaria?

Sword of Convallaria is a SRPG game with gacha mechanics and pixel sprites for the actual gameplay. The game was developed by XD Entertainment and takes inspirations from games like Final Fantasy Tactics or Tactics Ogre. It has regular gacha style progression as found in other similar games of the genre but also has a mode called "Spiral of Destinies" that is separate from the gacha and can be played without engaging in the gacha side of the game because Spiral of Destinies progression and characters are completely separate from the gacha side. You can import some of the characters from your account to a run of Spiral of Destinies but it is highly likely that endgame Spiral of Destinies characters will be stronger than characters from your gacha side due to how the progression and tailored trainings work in that mode.

Is this game F2P friendly?

It's decent. It doesn't shower you with rolls so you do have to practice good resource management and plan out your rolls but luckily the Global server is behind the original server from TW so the future sight helps a lot in planning who you get and prioritizing who to get. The developers have said they want to make it so the global server is six months behind and stays six months behind TW so there will always be future sight.

All content can be cleared without Legendary units (Highest rarity) but Legendary units definitely make everything easier and some are way more valuable than others. This includes end game content such as Tower of Conquest, endgame farming stages or latest story stages so you can try to clear content using F2P strategies while you catch up or while you save for certain units you really want to save for or are looking forward to.

Am I too late to start?

The game came out on July 31 for PC, iOS and Android so it's still very recent. It's been out long enough for most of the players to reach end game and level cap but it's still very possible to catch up to level cap in around two months time.

Getting Started

Where do I get the game?

Global: Play Store | App Store
PC Steam | Standalone

If you want the Standalone client then go to the official Sword of Convallaria page and click the Windows button. It'll download a standalone version of the game without steam. The steam version allows you to link your steam account to it and make purchases through steam but it's recommended to reroll on Mobile, emulator or the standalone version instead of steam. Only use the steam version after you have decided on an account to keep and will not reroll anymore.

Rerolling

Re-rolling is the act of making new accounts until you obtain your desired outcome. It's a completely optional process that some gacha players go through to secure themselves a headstart but you can play through the entire game without rerolling without a single issue.

New accounts start with 21 rolls in the mail from Pre-registration rewards. Depending on ongoing events, you might recieve more rolls to start out with. The first 10-roll you are forced to do during the tutorial is scripted and will give you Maitha and Crimson Falcon. The 21 rolls will be obtained from going to your mail and claiming it. You obtain control of your account after clearing 0-1 of Fool's Journey and can either end your reroll here or keep going to squeeze more rolls before rerolling a new account.

If you have a powerful PC, the best way to reroll is to set up a Multi-Instance emulator like Bluestacks and create as many instances as you're comfortable with or as many as your PC can handle. Also, don't be lazy and don't clone them. Download the game on all of them individually or you'll end up with the same account on all of them. Then just open all the instances at the same time and sync them so you're doing the tutorial and rolling on multiple instances at the same time which will save massive amounts of time and effort.
If you do not have a powerful PC, then just reroll using your phone or the standalone client but do not reroll using the steam client.

-How your Gacha screen should look like

The First Summon banner is for new accounts only and guarantees one legendary. You CAN get more than one legendary from this banner if you are really lucky but the banner only guarantees one and will go away once you obtain one legendary from it. The pool for this banner is not limited to launch units and contains every single unit released, including the current banner unit. It is highly reccomended to do this banner before it goes away because one legendary for 30 rolls is a great deal.

The "Innocence" banner is another newbie banner that will be avaliable to you regardless of when you started your account and the end date will also depend on when you created your account. Col & Beryl are two excellent units and you really can not go wrong with either.

The "Debut" banner and other "Destined" banner if one exists will be the currently ongoing banners. The value of these banners highly depends but it's usually not reccomended to roll the dual banners because of how the pity works for these and save for the "Debut" banners.

Unit Description
Cocoa Cocoa is an excellent unit that does everything you would want a support to do. She has several heals, she brings several buffs to the table, she has a knockback, she can use assist cover to block and she can even debuff the enemy with Vulnerable or Sleep if you don't need her to heal. She gets even better at 5-stars when she has a 100% chance to activate happiness which reduces the cost of skills by 1 and reduces cooldowns by 1 which is amazing. She is one of the most valuable and most important units to have in the game and you should definitely prioritize getting her 5-stars.
Auguste Auguste is a damage dealer where his entire kit is about dealing damage. When having 6 stacks of rage and initiating an active attack, Auguste will remove all his rage stacks and gain an extra turn with Rage Outburst. He is currently one of the best damage dealers in the entire game and easily the best breaker in the game though it is worth noting that he feels really bad at low stars. You should absolutely prioritize getting him to at least 2-stars immediately then try getting him to 5-stars as a long term project.
Beryl Beryl is a Magic character and her main mechanic is NRG regeneration. Between her core ability that regenerates her one extra NRG every turn and the skill NRG restoration, she can use a skill every turn without worrying about NRG management. The main advantage to having Beryl is that good magic damage dealers in this game are somewhat rare and Beryl is an extremely powerful magic damage dealer that can spam her skills every turn and has a good kit of skills.
Gloria Gloria is an extremely versatile buffer that can also deal damage. She's a mainstay in a lot of teams and she's usually in a lot of guide videos you find because she's just that good. Gloria will always wave her flag before the battle starts which grants all allies near her a buff to movement and grants herself the 'Flag Waving' buff which increases the attack and defense of allies near her. Gloria's signature skill is 'Lance of Longinus' which causes her to violently slam down her flag to a square and deal AOE damage. After that, it consumes her 'Flag Waving' Aura and changes it to 'Potential Burst' while also changing her Spear skills to Sword based skills. The mode switch is like switching from support to damage dealer and she has a cooldown before she can wave her flag again and enter Lance mode again.
Inanna Inanna is a healer that's all about heals and buffs. She can summon a bodyguard at the start of the battle and replace it when it dies which can be very useful as a spare disposable body. She has a wealth of buffs and heals but her main skill that sets her apart from other healers and supporters is the ability to allow another ally to gain another turn immediately with 'Princess Prayer'. Being able to give someone an extra turn like that is extremely valuable so Inana is one of the most sought after characters for this.
Safiyyah Safiyyah is a seeker character where his entire mechanic relies on Hanged Men marks. She's not a straightforward damage dealer and requires some thought to use because most of her damage comes from her assist attack when an ally hits an enemy marked with the Hanged Man's mark near her. Safiyyah will deal a % of the target's HP as damage but no more than % of her attack depending on her star level. Her main and most used skills are Shadowless blade that allows her to dodge all single target attacks for 1 turn and counter all of them with an AOE stab that applies vulnerability but it's worth noting she will not dodge anything that deals AOE damage so do not put her in range of anything that deals AOE or she will die. Her other signature skill is summon HM agent which will summon a Hanged Men, apply the mark on the enemy and debuff their Pdef/Mdef.
Col Col is a Seeker character who's entire role is assassinating enemies with backstabs. Col's main mechanic is gaining an extra turn whenever she kills an unit which makes her excellent for cleaning up trash but she falls off if she can't get the kills she needs. Regardless, she is still a very good character to have in your account. At higher ranks, Col's cooldown for an extra turn can go as low as 1CD and she has the 'Feverish Beast' ability that grants her Lifesteal and Crit chance whenever anything on the field dies so she has great synergy with the Devil tarot since she really wants to snowball with kills to be good.
Edda Edda is a support character who brings powerful debuffs and buffs to the table. She also gets her signature skills very early on which are 'Guiding Gleam', 'Fortification' and 'Wine Barrel Casting'. Fortification summons a box which is great for giving characters like Beryl or Nungal the high ground while Wine Barrel Casting reduces the mdef and speed of anything standing on top of the wine by a large amount which can make magic damage dealers such as Beryl or Nungal do very high damage numbers.
Nonowill Nonowill is a seeker character that is more on the utility side. Her damage isn't as high as Col or Safiyyah's but she makes up for it with the utility in her kit. She has her signature 'Thousand Blades' to deal damage in an AOE and the very valuable ability to inflict Vulnerable III to all enemies around herself as an instant skill while also having the ability to inflict Infection and boasting very high mobility in her kit.
Acambe Acambe is a summoner character that is really good but also the character that requires the most thought to use. He relies heavily on having great NRG generation or someone to provide NRG to him and also a player that can make great use of his ability to Summon Shadow Assassins. Definitely not the easiest character to use but has great utility and potential to do very large amounts of damage if used correctly.
Dantalion Dantalion is a versatile character that can deal both magic and physical damage but he's usually and mostly used as an Aura carrier for both Safiyyah and Nungal since it increases their damage by a fair bit while being somewhat useful himself too.
Nungal Nungal is a sniper character that also comes with the sniper playstyle to match. She synergizes greatly with Hanged Man characters and has two viable builds that are great and will eat your castallia if you want to try both. She can be built to deal large amounts of skill damage using 'Deadly Aim' and 'Quick Reload' or she can be used as a basic attacker with 'Shattering Arrow' and 'Eagle Eye'. Regardless of what path you take, Sniper stance is a must have for both and she has potential to deal extremely high damage and maybe even oneshot certain bosses from a safe distance.

Don't want to continue writing about the more niche characters but that should cover the main characters you want to be aiming for. The Good and Niche characters are still great and have their uses, they just aren't on the same level of power and utility as the above characters.

What should I focus on after starting?
  • Push Fool's Journey as far as you can for various unlocks game and feature unlocks. Don't worry about not getting full stars as long as it clears because getting the features unlocked is more important than the rewards.
  • Follow Voyage Momento and do all your Momento quests for great rewards
  • Do Spiral of Destiny. Spiral of Destiny does not consume stamina or have any time limit so you can do it at your own pace but there might be some events that reward you generously for finishing one playthrough so make sure to not miss out if there's one.
  • Do your Events. Most events are usually just sweeping the highest farming stage you can do with bonus units twice a day.
  • Do your memory stages with 3-4 units you want to star up. Memory stages are the only way to star up characters and this is extremely important for your progression.
  • Work on your talent tree. Early on you can just level your talents as far as the Voyage Momento tells you to but once you're at level 40+, you might want to start taking your talents more seriously because a lot of stats come from there.
  • Sweep your daily extra stages with your spare stamina. If you have a lot of stamina and don't know what to do with it, sweep for the extra bonuses on all the 'Crossing Worlds' stages. If you still have spare stamina, sweep Star Trial stages
  • Do your Clash battles. Clash is PVP vs AI but the AI is often extremely dumb and you get points for every battle while not losing points for any defeat so it's very easy to get to the highest tier and just stay there forever. Once you hit Radiance for the first time, the following season will only demote you to gold and it's very easy to get back to Radiance then not bother with Clash at all for the duration of the season. Make sure to always pick the easiest enemy you can find, the bonuses for harder enemies are near non-existent so you can make things easy for yourself.
  • Join a Guild whenever you can. Joining a guild gives you various in-game benefits on top of giving you a circle of players you can talk to and ask questions to. There are also guild activities that can only be done if you're in a guild so make sure to join one.
  • Reset is at 00:00 EST daily.
  • But most importantly, have fun. It's a game, not a job. You are allowed to take breaks, play other things, do what's fun for you and get the most enjoyment of the game possible.

Gacha

The premium currency of the game is called Hope Luxites. This is the main currency for everything in the game. To actually pull on the gacha, you need to convert your 'Hope Luxites' to 'Secret Fate' but Hope Luxites are the only gacha currency in the game. 'Astral Gems' are the paid only currency and are used to purchase paid packs like the Selector Ticket (The ticket only contains Launch units and does NOT contain any units like Gloria that were released later) or the various other packs.

The income of a F2P player may vary but an user on reddit has made a pull count of how many rolls a F2P can expect to get. For the current month the guide was written on, a F2P can hope to obtain 80 rolls a month without counting newbie first time rewards which means it would take two months to save up for 1 guaranteed legendary.

Gacha Banners & Pity Mechanics

First Summon: This banner is newbie exclusive and guarantees a Legendary in 30 rolls. The character you will get is completely random and contains every single legendary in the game, including whoever is on rate up right now. You don't have to roll this immediately but it is highly recommended to see what your luck has in store for you in this banner.

Debut: This banner will always have the current new rate up character. You are guaranteed the featured character in 180 rolls and the pity of this banner carries over to future debut banners so there's no need to worry if you went hard on a banner or wasted some rolls without getting anything because you will be able to carry over your pity counter towards future debut banners. Your debut pity will not reset if you get a legendary that is not the featured legendary from this banner and will continue counting down until you get it. You can check your current counter by clicking "Details" for how many rolls you have remaining until your next guarantee.

Destined: This banner is always a Dual banner with two characters in it. You are guaranteed either of the characters featured in the destined banner in 180 rolls and your pity will reset once you get either of the characters in this featured banner. For example, in a Destined banner with Nungal and Nergal, you are guaranteed either Nungal or Nergal in 180 rolls. If you obtain Nergal from this banner then your next pity in this specific banner will guarantee Nungal for the duration of it. Destined does not care whether you already own the character or not and dupes are possible so it's usually not reccomended to roll on Destined banners unless you're missing both characters and are good with either or you really want to take a risk because it can be really expensive to get both. Your Destined pity is separate from your debut pity and will not reset if you get a legendary that is not the featured one.

Standard: Please don't roll here. If you have no idea of what you're doing and don't have a very good reason to ever use this banner, please don't waste rolls on this banner. This includes the Mighty weapons banner, you might have a reason for dropping a few in standard but there is never a reason to touch the Mighty Weapons banner unless you're a large spender trying to speed up the process of catching up with large amounts of money.

Universal Guarantee: This isn't a banner but more of a gacha mechanic. You are guaranteed one legendary every 100 rolls and this pity is active on all the above banners while being separate from it. You can check it by clicking on 'History' at the gacha page and it guarantees a random Legendary character every 100 rolls. Universal guarantee will not consume your Destined/Debut pities unless it gives you the featured character in those banners then both will be reset.
For example, if you rolled a Cocoa on Auguste's Debut banner, your 'Universal Pity' will be reset back to 100 because you met the condition of 'Obtained a Legendary' but your Debut pity will not be reset because you did not obtain the featured debut character. But if you obtain Auguste from the same banner before the 180 rolls for the debut pity guarantee then both of your Universal and Debut pities will be reset because you met both conditions of 'Obtaining a legendary' and 'Obtaining the featured legendary'.

Characters and Skills

Example Skill Tree

Sword of Convallaria uses a skill tree system for the characters. Every character can equip one basic attack, one reaction ability and three skills. Skills are obtained through the skill three and you can choose one from the tree when your character reaches certain rank milestones. The choice is permanent and there is no current way to reset skill trees so please choose carefully which skills you want to take for each character. There are certain wiki sites, guide sites or content creators that suggest what skills to take on each character to make an informed decision on what skills are best to take.

Castallia

You can obtain the skill on the other side using blue orbs called 'Castallias'. Castalias are rare items that are obtained from things like Voyage Momento, Fool's Journey rewards or Event rewards and are used to get more skills on your characters. It is highly reccomended to save your Castallias for the Legendary characters that are used a lot or that you will use a lot and not use them on Gold rarity characters or lower unless you really know what you're doing. They're not impossibly rare that you have to be super careful when using them but they are a scarce resource and there are certain characters that will want to consume several of these so you should always save them for the top legendary characters or just your favorite characters in general.

Clash (PVP)

Clash is a Player vs AI mode where you will fight other players (or bots) to rise up the ladder. 'Normal' and 'Hard' enemies give very slightly higher (+1 and +2) points per victory but the increase is so minimal that you should just check to see who has the weakest or easiest defense and hit those players instead. You want to get to at least Platinum for the trinket but it's fairly easy to get to Radiance once your account is developed because the AI is extremely stupid and can be baited into doing very dumb things. There is no penalty for losing and there's no rank decay so once you hit your desired target for the season, you can just ignore clash completely until the next season. Though you will want to do at least 300 points in your quests for the activity rewards before deciding to completely ignore clash. You can do up to 5 clash hits a day.

Spiral of Destinies

Spiral of Destinies is the story mode of the game and more like a game inside a game. You are allowed to bring 3 characters from your account into the mode and this mode has it's own mechanics, features and progression so your imported characters will be snapshotted and copied over to your run with their currently equipped skills but reset to level 1 with no equipment. The game itself explains the mechanics to you so no spoilers are required but it's worth noting that a full spiral of destinies run can take around 40 to 50 ingame weeks which would translate to around 2 days of real gameplay time. Spiral of destinies consumes no stamina or resources outside of keys per chapter but keys are very easy to come and you will likely end up letting keys expire because of how you will get more than you can use most of the time.

Choose your companions screen

Currently, Spiral of Destinies counts with four routes that are Iria, Papal, Union and Elaman/Merchant route. Merchant route requires a special beacon to access and only gets unlocked at Knowledge Level 30. To raise your knowledge level, you have to play Spiral of Destinies so ideally you want to finish one regular route before unlocking and doing the Merchant route. Raising your Knowledge level rewards you handsomely with Hope Luxites and Legendary gear so you want to get that level up but since Spiral of Destinies has no deadlines or anything, it can be done at your own pace whenever you want.
