SCP-8100: Traffic Safety

SCP-8100

Item Class: Euclid

Special Containment Procedure:
SCP-8100 is to be kept in an indoor life-sized diorama built to match the conditions and appearance of a North American road, modeled after an intersection in [DATA REDACTED] street, the location SCP-8100 was recovered from.

D-Class Personnel are to sporadically interact with SCP-8100 by driving around the diorama in various automotive vehicles acquired by the Foundation. Seemingly, SCP-8100 is able to recognize if a vehicle is not piloted by a human, and will respond aggressively to attempts to fool it.

Description:
SCP-8100 is a monochromatic Stop Sign matching the design located in most industrialized countries, measuring 2 inches taller than a standard model and with fleshy components inside of the shaft and lettering of the sign.

SCP-8100, despite appearing to be rooted into the ground, is capable of locomotion averaging speeds comparable to a mature Acinonyx Jubatus specimen, dragging itself across a self-repairing ravine in the ground that can tunnel through most solid surfaces. The density of the ground that SCP-8100 tunnels through can hinder the speed at which it travels, being reduced to a speed of 10 km/h when tunneling through solid steel floors.

SCP-8100 will become aggressive when a living human subject within a half kilometer distance of it breaks traffic laws. When such an instance happens, SCP-8100 will start bleeding profusely from the lettering on the sign and will attempt to bludgeon the subject to death.

In the scenario that SCP-8100 is able to successfully incapacitate a target, the subject will begin to undergo a complete anatomical rearrangement, with their bones and tendons solidifying into the visage of a traffic sign, stretching and warping organs, muscle and tissue around the newly-grown frame. Over the course of around a month, the victim will transform into an identical copy of SCP-8100, referred to as SCP-8100-1.

[] dozen SCP-8100-1 instances have been recovered, each varying in [REDACTED] and located across the American Midwest. None of the SCP-8100-1 instances are as aggressive as SCP-8100, and most will stay completely still when in the presence of SCP-8100, seemingly afraid of it to some capacity.

When an SCP-8100-1 instance is far away enough from SCP-8100, it will attempt to move and interact with its surroundings, although this in most cases amounts to awkward writhing. SCP-8100-1 instances are rarely aggressive towards foundation personnel, with the exception of [REDACTED].

Addendum-1
Recent testing as of []/[][]/16 has shown limited brain activity inside of several juvenile SCP-8100-1 instances. Using high power laser cutters, foundation staff were able to surgically remove large portions of the "bio-metal" exoskeleton that composes SCP-8100-1, revealing raw tissue underneath.

MRI scanning shows that most organs are absent from SCP-8100-1, most notably the eyes, stomach, bladder and intestines. Remaining organs and muscle tissue have been flattened and compacted to an alarming degree, with the brain stem and spinal cord being completely displaced to fit inside of the pole supporting the traffic sign.

Brain scans on most SCP-8100-1 instances indicate that they remain conscious to some capacity, and are still capable of feeling pain. Even with mind-reading technology, very little can be deciphered from the scans performed on recovered instances, with most endlessly repeating phrases associated with road signs, such as "STOP", "SPEED LIMIT 45", "NO U-TURNS", etc.

The Ethics Committee has advocated for euthanizing every acquired SCP-8100-1 instance. As of writing, this policy is not in full effect outside of special circumstances or as a means of controlling SCP-8100-1 populations.

Addendum-2
SCP-8100's ability to sense the intelligence of a driver is not yet fully understood, and the metrics of how it can measure the sapience of a driver are yet to be determined. Vehicles driven by machine learning programs are completely ignored by SCP-8100, and repeated attempts to use self-driving vehicles in SCP-8100's enclosure will aggravate SCP-8100, resulting in SCP-8100 damaging the vehicles out of spite.

D-Class subjects that are given access to alcohol before driving in SCP-8100's enclosure are immediately attacked by SCP-8100 as soon as they enter a vehicle. This same aggression towards subjects under the influence applies to non-alcoholic substances, but with varying levels of violence.

  • Marijuana | SCP-8100 rams into the back side of the car, causing it to flip and land upside-down, rupturing the engine and killing the driver. D-6067 was trapped in the wreckage, and died from engine fumes combined with blunt force trauma.
  • Cocaine | SCP-8100 approaches the vehicle on the side of the driver, arches backwards and develops crude joints along the signpost, and repeatedly stabs D-49211 in the gut with the flat side of the Stop Sign until D-49211's large intestines rupture and the subject dies of severe internal bleeding.
  • Methamphetamine | SCP-8100 burrows into the ground, waiting until the vehicle passes above it, to which it then erupts from the ground and punches a hole through the underside of the car, lodging itself in between the driver and passenger seats. D-38416 begins to panic, and tries to accelerate as fast as possible, causing the entire rear end of the car to be bisected before slamming full-speed into the wall of the enclosure and catching fire.

After the results of the third drug-related experiment, the 05 council have official banned any testing that combines illegal substances with automobiles.
