Emberians

Living in relative isolation from the rest of the country, the Emberians are one of the most interesting ethnic groups that make up Selenium.
As such, much information about them remains unknown, although a recent trade agreement led to the province opening up to the country, revealing for the first time since Axel the Brave elements of their culture.
Emberians are the target of constant anthropological studies, and a recent breakthrough has led to the conclusion that they most likely are a miscegenation of ancient Rosebutas and Dragoons.
Through recently recovered manuscripts in ancient villages near the top of Mount Ember, it was discovered that the first signs of Emberian Nationalism started around ca. 750. If those documents were to be believed, it would mean that the Emberians are older than the entirety of Selenium.
Their unique history doesn't end there however; they were notorious for their neutrality until the Great Southern Expedition led by Axel the Brave convinced the elder Emberian council to join his side during the Unification War in exchange for autonomy.

Culture and Religion

The Emberian's culture was greatly influenced by the environment that provided their only sustenance, and threatened their livelihood. Trees, mountains and lakes formed what is known as the "Eternal Snow", which according to traditional Emberian faith, were deities subjugating them. Since Mount Ember is home to a number of different dragons, they play a major role into their faith - acting as guardians of the villages -, and representatives of different natural elements found on Selenium.

Societal Structure

For the survival of the small, isolated villages of Mount Ember, cooperation is paramount: the Elder, elected through a meeting, organizes and maintains an agricultural commune that tries to benefit every villager.
Although private property is respected, agricultural tools are for communal use for maximum efficiency.
Comradeship and mutual trust plays heavily into the village's society. The region's already treacherous climate means that hunting, for an example, is elevated to an almost sacred status: a hunter trusts his partner like an extension of his own body.

Foreign Modern Policies

In an attempt to integrate them to the Kingdom of Selenium, the Selenist Church made an effort to integrate loyal Emberian villages economically through favorable trade deals.
This caused a number of locally-made instruments to emerge from Mount Ember, such as the Rebéc or a Yatga.
They're widely known for their high quality and reliability, which in turn increased the demand for such instruments inside aristocrat circles.
