NOTES:
--Infantry are almost always organized into a bandon of 200 soldiers, and five of these banda form a tourma of 1000 men.
--All cavalry are organized into a bandon of 50 soldiers, five of these form a tourma of 250 men.
--Artillery operate in teams of 4 pieces for light pieces such as culverins, 4-pounders, and Napoleons. Heavier pieces such as howitzers, anti-air rifles, and naval guns being used on land will operate in teams of 2 pieces.
--Any kind of infantry, cavalry, or artillery may be raised in experimental or "cultural preservation" units based on the 50:250 organization by the Chartoularios tou Kanikleiou and attached to the tagma operating in the province where the people traditionally excel at the combat art in question. Troops outside the regular standard equipment will be raised this way (e.g. peasant revolt against corrupt landowner or tax collector is co-opted by the Emperor, who organizes their best fighters into a battalion of men with war picks or glaives). These do not replace other banda on the rolls.
-- Each of the tagmata do not count artillery teams on their rolls, since the evolving demands of a campaign tend to transfer cannons and grenadiers between tagmata as needed. 11,100 soldiers per tagma, then: 9200 soldiers who must fight as infantry, 1750 soldiers who must fight mounted, and a bodyguard for the commander running 150 men who can fight as they so please.

INFANTRY UNITS WITHIN THE TAGMATA:
-- Rectrikioi (meant to mean "Tail-feather" soldiers, since Pandora's a Brit who loves fried chicken). Longbowmen named for their function and relatively antiquated nature. In the past, they were the mainstay "backline" unit of the Imperial armies; massed ALWAYS with multiple banda together within a single tagma. Vital for suppressive fire and accurate anti-infantry barrages before better and more mobile field artillery could serve that function. Skirmishing via archer units was done with soldiers wielding short composite bows. Now, however, the required number of Rectrikioi has been cut down to a single regular banda per tagma. They are currently the Imperial army's most efficient method for assassinating officers leading from behind dense infantry formations and picket fences, and are spread out along the battle line for such purposes. The Utanic Tagma has been given dispensation for fielding a Cultural Bandon of an additional 250 Rectrikioi.
-- Chavliodontai (meant to be "Boar's Tusk" soldiers, since Seina is La Gringa Madre de Puercos). Basic-ass pikemen. Trained like OTL Tercio pikemen to maneuver offensively with a bit more poise than most other pike formations. Large number of /ñ /immigrants amongst their ranks. The elite amongst the Chavliodontai wield halberds, wear fishnet stockings around their normal pant legs, and don pink shearling cloaks. Odd outfits, but sure, they're hardened killers, go ahead. General mid-range killers of enemy cavalry, and small detachments can often be seen defending the flanks of artillery teams, guarding encampments, and tearing down enemy fortifications. Chavliodontai are often called upon to be first through breach in a siege due to the reach on their assigned weapons. Eight banda per tagma, a full 1600 pikemen. The Momosfikonian Tagma has elected to field a Cultural Bandon of Chavliodontai.
-- Sfyriotai (meant to be "Meteor Wielders", lumifags where we at?) Heavy vanguard infantry. Equipped with large axes and two-handed longswords. Wear Chinese-style scale armor and are really quite enthusiastic. Primarily tasked with clearing fortifications, breaking pike squares, attacking trenches, and generally being a nuisance against enemy tarpits and light hand cavalry. Only soldiers to retain full metal body protection (all others wear sleeved brigandine and reinforced caps) in the medieval style, due to their prestige and close-combat role. The expense of their armor, high casualty rates, and specialized duties contribute to only mandating seven banda per tagma, 1400 soldiers.
-- Kleisouraphylakes (horrendous way of saying military district warden, Inori plays Holdfast), known colloquially as 'Steadfasters', are fast-moving, hard-hitting musketeers modeled after the Carolean army. Primary "offensive" striking arm of a tagma. Whereas before their speed was compromised by the weight of their guns, technicians from /nasa/ were hired to help Ayakkayoli produce metals and plastics that could significantly lessen the load. Trained to not necessarily shoot until skirmishing range, unload a volley or two from their repeater muskets and watch enemy lines crumple. These practices stem from previous heavy infantry tactics; armored spearmen with broad-bladed heads would go on the attack, launch a javelin, and then get stuck in. Lots of resources are devoted to making sure a tagma's Kleisouraphylakes tourma are at full strength--4000 men.
-- Hyperpyrores (20 gold coins is 20 gold coins, Chris) are riflemen wielding firearms that closely resemble Spencer repeating rifles. The issue with smoke discharge that breechloader guns seemingly have magnified over muzzle-loaders has not been fixed aside from elite troops issued with magically treated rifles that dissipate smoke immediately upon firing. Before they became foot rifles, the Hyperpyrores were the skirmish archer infantry mentioned earlier. They carried two types of composite bow. The first was a recurve horn bow meant to be used with an overdraw tube; the idea was using shorter arrows at higher flight velocity with less draw weight. The second was a Plains Indian-style weapon--80 to 90 pound drawback, trades a lot of range and firing arcs for rapid firing and up close penetration of armor. Often dour and serious in temperament. Two tourma of Hyperpyrores serve in each tagma, 2000 men.

CAVALRY UNITS WITHIN THE TAGMATA:
-- Eidolones (lit. "ghost images", so...Yoki, then.) Cavalry on small ponies. The mounts wear light unspun cloth caparisons camoflauged to suit the battlefield--as such, in open engagements where flanking cover is unavailable, or in urban battles where the pavement makes cavalry louder than is really feasible, the Eidolones do not take the field. The riders do not wear any armor. Instead, they are fitted with a thick vest and pants made of folded silk layers, and leather chaps. Their simple steel caps have been stained and painted to prevent light reflections. This protective wear is meant to defend against shrapnel and stray missiles while the Eidolones perform their tasked function. As for weapons, they are kitted out as light lancers who may swap to single-edged sabers. No firearms. Often they are used as messengers and couriers. If an enemy's line is anchored against a forest, copse, outcropping, or embedded within an agricultural zone, the Eidolones attempt to use these natural features to disguise their approach and take down vulnerable pike squares, artillerists, encampments, archers, and the like from an inopportune flank or the rear. A tagma fields a single tourma of Eidolones normally, but the Kanikleios has given blanket permission to the Strategos of the Touavgon theme to raise cultural tourma and attach them to other tagmata in theaters where a lot of rough terrain is expected.
-- Curseares (from the Greek "Koursores", swift-moving lancers, but since this is Emma's unit, a SEA joke had to be included) Heavier hand cavalry mounted on more standard warhorses. The mounts wear heavier caparisons and their heads and necks are barded. Wearing stiff sleeved brigandine styled like a 19th-Century hussar's coat, greaves, and a lightly-armored skirt of plates to defend their legs. Cursores wield a long cavalry koncerz (135cm) of cold steel for piercing armor and bludgeoning, a brace of 2 revolvers, and a shorter saber for slashing. Cursores are the primary descendant of the heavier knights the Empire used to field, but the implications of superior firearms have emphasized mobility and stamina over armor. The koncerz allows them to fight as medium-heavy lancers, the saber to run down retreating enemies or light troops, and the revolvers to at least trade semi-fairly with horse archers, cowboy-like outlaws, enemy dragoons, and other missile horse. A tagma is expected to field 3 tourma, 750 troopers.
-- Youriphoroi (from "Doryphoroi", a Komnenian term for horse archers given guard status despite being named "Lance-bearers") Signature Imperial cavalry unit. Horses do not wear either caparisons or barding, but in exchange riders may wear a plate cuirass and felt-covered helmet. As foot archers and (far more rarely) riflemen often outrange missile cavalry, it was important to increase the volume of fire Youriphoroi could pour out when harassing enemy knights and heavy infantry. Hence, they were the first to receive repeating carbines. Yourphoroi screen the advance of the Imperial armies, support skirmish troops, defend artillery and baggage trains, and scout. Often their superior mobility and attack rate gets them the highest kill tallies of enemy hand cavalry, as most commanders would rather risk MAYBE catching the Youriphoroi and destroying them in melee with knights than DEFINITELY losing them en-masse versus the Chavliodontai and Sfyriotai. Their tactics, armaments, and general disposition was initially formulated with the help of gunsmiths, equestrian athletes, and veteran light cavalrymen selected from experts across both /clg/ and /haha/. A tagma is expected to field 3 tourma, 750 troopers.

NOTE ON CAVALRY: There havd been discussions over hybridizing the Youriphoroi with the Curseares, and producing a single multi-role cavalry unit to ease supply issues and manufacturing. Many of the more traditionalist members of the School of War, however, have observed how the motorized infantry fighting vehicles and buggies fielded by /∞/ differ in role and function from their cruiser tanks--the former are touted as akin to the Youriphoroi, the latter to the Curseares; thus the distinction remains.

ARTILLERY PIECES ATTACHED TO THE TAGMATA

-- Light Pieces: falconet, bastard culverin, puckleguns, grenadiers
-- Medium Pieces: demi-cannon, demi-culverin, Nichols gun, flamethrower
-- Heavy Pieces: mortar, howitzer, culverin-ordinary, anti-air rifles

NOTES ON ARTILLERY:
-- All pieces are breech-loaders, thanks to an early discovery of the interrupted screw.
-- With single-barrel guns, a compound of Vt and hagfish slime, known as Maronitrium, is wadded within vents along a cannon's barrels to both seal the vents and to disperse /redirect heat/gas discharges from firing. This greatly increases the feasibility of both revolving rifles and breech-loaded artillery pieces. Therefore, the people of Ayakkayoli have essentially begun farming polychaete worms as food for hagfish--and then trade excess catch to the lands of /nijikr/ where the fish are treated as a delicacy. Don't ask me how, it's fucking magic.
-- The anti-air pieces are large rifled guns, yes, but are fucking useless if the enemy does not bring along wyvern/dragon/airship riders.
-- Why both puckle guns and Nichols guns? the puckle gun is essentially an LMG-sized revolver that doesn't exactly do much except as a close-range infantry support weapon. The Nichols gun never saw any manner of production and was presumably hopper-fed, but without many advantages of the Agar-and-onward attempts at building a machine gun, if it only existed in the scientific literature it's not broken. Yet.
