Tomestone Spending Guide for Moogle Treasure Trove: The Hunt for Phantasmagoria
Update: As expected, marketboard prices for many items have already dropped significantly. I'd recommend checking the marketboard and seeing if buying them isn't a better alternative. Two notable examples are the Queen's Guard Barding and the Magicked Bed, both of which have dropped to ~500k or lower in some servers as of March 17.
Noob trap/bad options:
Fluffy Pancakes, Fat Cat Rug, Candlelit Sundries, Apothecary's Workbench Woodland Chair: they're all 20 tomestones, but extremely cheap on the marketboard, with some being as cheap as ~100 gil. Not worth a single tomestone, let alone 20. By far the worst rewards.
Kamuy mounts: these fights have never been easier and faster to unsync, and both can be soloed. Also, Moogle events had them multiple times before.
Pleasant Dot Parasol: ~350k gil on the marketboard atm, but costs a paltry 25 Bozjan Clusters, so if you do Bozja at all, this is trivial. Even if you don't plan on ever doing Bozja, it's not expensive and will get cheaper.
Riding maps: If you're that passionate about not flying in zones but still moving at flying speed, you can just buy them with seals. Some want the fast ground speed and like to use the seals strictly for aetheryte tickets, so they might pick this up with leftover tomes. There's a niche for it, I guess.
Curiel Root: extremely cheap on the marketboard (~200 gil).
Highly subjective/mediocre:
Elbst and Bomb Palanquin: ARR tribe mounts available in Moogle events all the time, pointless if you do the quests.
/lean: Firmament reward, not a lot of scrips, not expensive atm (200-250k), but it's a popular emote.
The Garden's Gates Orchestrion Roll: could argue this is more of a trap option, as it's so simple to get with the Pixie quests. Still, some simply don't want to do tribe quests and/or are using an alt, plus it's untradeable and only 7 tomestones, so I can see it being useful to some, I guess.
Paissa Earring: it speaks for itself. You either think this is worth 100 tomestones or you don't. Or you're a completionist/care about the FOMO and want to get it regardless. As usual with the top rewards from Moogle events, if you don't get it this time, it'll take years before it's available again, if ever.
Good picks:
MGP Platinum Card: always a good option if you have nothing else to spend on.
Form and Function hairstyle: Eureka bunny drop, around 550-600k gil atm (also going get cheaper, of course). Popular hairstyle, hasn't been a Moogle event reward since the 2021 fanfest one.
Skallic sets: subjective as any glam is, but they're from level cap dungeons, which makes them very annoying to farm, even though level 70 ones are easier and faster to farm now. The cost can add up at 15 tomestones a piece, and the event only offers the body and leg pieces, but that still skips part of the grind if you want the sets or just some pieces.
Magicked Bed: Highly subjective because the mount itself seems to be a love or hate thing, but it's ~1.6-1.8M on the marketboard atm, and even when it gets cheaper, that's not too cheap for most players. If you buy the materials and craft it yourself, you could get it for ~1.1M now, but even the one expensive material (Enchanted Elm Lumber) might get cheaper soon, as it's a drop from level 80 map dungeons, which you can do with maps from the event. First time in a Moogle event. (update: it's already dropped to ~400-500k in some worlds as of March 17, which downgrades this to "Highly subjective/mediocre" if you can comfortably pay for it)
Primal Angel Orchestrion Roll: E6 theme and drop, around 800k gil atm; as usual with such orchestrion rolls, it's annoying to grind, so skipping that RNG is pretty good if you like and want the song.
Special Timeworn Maps: They can be stacked, guarantee a portal, and are exclusive to Moogle events. They can be good for rare drops, achievements, and maybe gil in some cases. Most have been in Moogle events before (this is the Ostensibly Special's 8th time), but others haven't been available as often, and it's the first time they offer the Conceivably Special one (Elpis map).
Solid picks:
Wind-up Sylph: locked behind Sylph quests, untradeable, first time in a Moogle event. But also pointless if you do the Sylph quests.
Ancient One: random drop in Anamnesis Anyder, around 800k-1M gil on the marketboard atm, first time in a Moogle event. Might be a bit steep for some at 50 tomestones, depending on how many things you want to get, but dungeon minions are some of the most annoying to farm, and soloing level 80 dungeons unsynced isn't that fast.
Poroggo and Honoroit Cards: Poroggo is a common drop from a TT NPC that you unlock doing the Alexander quests. Honoroit is a common drop from the House Fortemps Manservant, which you unlock with MSQ progress. Avoiding RNG entirely is good, and at 10 tomestones per card, it's not a bad deal.
Bacon Bits: random drop from: quick exploration or a couple of woodland exploration options from BTN retainers or EO sacks. ~200k gil on the marketboard atm, but the price is likely to crash, as they only cost 7 tomestones. No-brainer if you want the minion, unless you just don't care about buying it.
Great picks:
Queen's Guard Barding: random DRN drop that goes for 2-2.5M gil atm (update: it's already dropped to ~500k in some worlds as of March 17, which downgrades this to just "good" if you can comfortably pay for it). It's not a super rare drop, but 50 tomestones instead of farming DRN is a good deal. Also first time in a Moogle event.
Shadow Gwiber: Hades EX unsync is easy, but can be quite annoying with the phases and cutscenes, and (IIRC) you need at least 3 people at level 100 to do it. If you want this mount and/or the Landerwaffe, it's a no-brainer at 50 tomestones.
Inferno Jacket: Even more subjective as a glam due to the aesthetics, but a lot of people have been asking for this one for a while. Again, it's rare for the "main" rewards from Moogle events to come back, and it takes years when it happens. It's also 50 tomestones instead of 100 this time, plus it'll get two dye channels at some point.
Bitty Duckbill: costs 800 sacks of nuts, which are relatively easy to get, but you might be saving them for other things. The minion is untradeable and only 7 tomestones.
Golden opportunities:
Falcon: originally from a promotional campaign for buying SB and subbing for 90 days. It's only been available in Moogle events since then, and the last time was the pre-6.3 one. It's a popular mount, and stands out as one of the very few mounts with unique transformations on the ground/flying/underwater.
Seeker of Solitude and SHB Warrior of Light cards: The Grand Cosmos and Seat of Sacrifice/EX drops, respectively. The drop rate isn't awful, but it's still RNG, and they're only 7 tomestones. No-brainers.
Eden's Promise card: mentioned separately because it's just that good. 7 tomestones for one of the most annoying cards to grind in duties, due to how long the duty takes and the extremely low drop rate.
PS: all of the cards count towards the Magicked Card mount
