scotties dead by daylight newgen guide

welcome to my guide. dead by daylight FAAAWWWKINGG sucks at explaining concepts to new players, so here I am doing all the work. I'm mostly frankensteining other guides along with my own takes, but yknow whatever.

I mostly want to go over what I find most new players dont understand. Builds, Perks, Characters, and how to wisely spend your bloodpoints.

Dead by Daylight has been around since 2016, and as of me writing this there are 85 different characters. Since each character gets 3 unique perks, there are over 255+ perks currently in the game. A Good handful of perks however, are completely useless and never add anything to your gameplay. If you're new, I would avoid these 5 survivors and killers for perks:

Thalita, Cheryl, Trevor, Ace, Aestri/Baemar, and Ash. Darklord, Huntress, Wraith, Pig, and Ghoul.

While these characters DO have perks that can be viable with certain builds, I wouldn't go for them early on. Thalita sucks though, none of her perks are good, never go for her.

The characters I WOULD go for however, are:

Kate, Meg, Feng, Dwight, and Claudette. Artist, Clown, Cannibal, Demogorgon and Knight.

Something important to mention, DBD can be played completely free (even though you're paying for the game anyways), but certain paid characters do have better perks. All original characters can be bought with in game currency, earned by leveling up or doing quests. Licensed characters can only be bought with real money. If you're tight on cash, wait for a sale. Usually you have two chances every year for sales, december (for holidays) and june-july (for anniversary). Playing without licensed characters ESPECIALLY as killer can be difficult, since they do have better perks, but it's not impossible.

BUILDS

whats the hubbub with builds huh. "ohhh why do I need certain perks I'd rather dig in my butt and do whatever" NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Builds can very differently effect your playstyle, and general gameplay. Survivors have much more wiggle room when it comes to builds due to the several roles that you can take on. Most common builds focus on altruism, generators, healing, or taking chase. However, many people have their own special builds that give their own twist on the game. Killers however, don't have as much wiggle room. Many killer mains use specific perks that they'll get the most usage out of to confirm a win. Looking at Otzdarva's build list, Many builds follow the same order of using some sort of generator regression, info, or endgame perk. While im at it, let me categorize certain perks into certain criteria.

GEN FOCUSED: For survivors, Hyperfocus, Stake out, and Deja Vu all assist with gens, while killer perks like Pain Resonance, Corrupt Intervention, and Pop Goes the Weasel all make generators harder for survivors to complete.

INFORMATION: For both sides, this gives general information as to the survivor/killers whereabouts, general knowledge of the map, etc. For survivors this includes Windows of Opportunity, Bond, and Kindred. For killer, Barbecue & Chili, Lethal Pursuer, and Nowhere to Hide are commonly used.

HEALTH STATES: For survivors, healing yourself and your teammates is crucial. Perks like Unbreakable, Self-Care, and For The People all change the way health states are managed throughout the game. For killer, many perks rely on getting survivors downed quick or taking advantage of injured survivors, such as Thanatophobia, Friends 'Til The End, or No Way Out.

USELESS PERKS: A Lot of perks are downright useless. I Have specific issues with Invocations, and the teamwork perks. If you want a list, go to Nightlight.gg and scroll to the very bottom of the perks list, you'll see exactly what perks are being used and not being used.

Something that also should be explained, is status effects. Killers and certain survivor perks inflict different status effects shown by an icon on the side of your screen, these include:

Blessed (Survivor Only); Effected by a Boon Perk while in its blue radius. These perks can be disabled and enabled if snuffed by the killer, or relit by a survivor.

Blindness; Cannot read auras no matter what perk is selected.

Bloodlust (Killer Only); After being in a chase for a certain period of time, gain extra speed. This will stack until the survivor is hit, or if chase is lost.

Broken (Survivor Only); Unable to be healed if you are injured. Can be inflicted by certain survivor perks ( like Deliverance, No Mither, or For the People.)

Cursed (Survivor Only); Effected by a Hex Perk, These perks can be deactivated whilst cleansing a lit totem.

Deep Wound (Survivor Only); Adds an extra health bar that slowly depletes while not in a chase, causing the mend action. If you don't mend, you immediately get put in the dying state.

Endurance; Inflicts Deep Wound instead of taking a health state if hit by the killer. If used by the Killer, they can endure stuns from survivors.

Exhaustion (Survivor Only); Prevents you from using Exhaustion Perks. Timer decreases while doing anything besides running.

Exposed (Survivor Only); Causes any basic attack hit to put you in the dying state. (Does NOT reveal your aura to the killer unless certain perks are applied.)

Haemorrhage (Survivor Only); Causes survivors to produce more pools of blood, and depletes -7% healing progress per second if healing is interrupted or stopped.

Haste; Increases movement speed, shown by a percentage on your screen.

Hindered; Decreases movement speed, shown by a percentage on your screen.

Mangled (Survivor Only); Healing takes 25% longer exclusively on injured survivors.

Oblivious (Survivor Only); Causes survivors to not hear the killer's terror radius or heartbeat warning if the killer is near them. Chase music can still be heard if chase is triggered.

Undetectable (Killer Only); Suppresses your Terror Radius, Red Stain, and Aura from survivors.
