southern /rose/ is primarily extended crust (passive margin, ultimately from niji-indie mid-ocean ridge)
northern /rose/ is primarily basin (fold belt) with some orogen and shield, making it richer in terms of metallic ore

peat can be harvested and dried, its carbon content making it a good source of fuel (sometimes too good, making it a fire hazard)
