OpenSteamTool Guide
What is OpenSteamTool?
- OpenSteamTool is a tool that enables you to add games which tricks steam that you owned that game and therefore gives you ability to download the game files from their servers like a legit game. Features such as verify steam integrity works but you wont be able to change game versions due to the depot file. Although while it gets files for you, some games still has a drm remaining which you have to crack it manually with either goldberg or a crack release patch.
- OpenSteamTool is based on a reverse engineered version of a closed source alternative SteamTools which is aimed to be more safer. Steamtools was rumored to steal keys from your config.vdf file which steam stores your core application settings and preferences. OpenSteamTool removes all the shady things SteamTools does.

FAQ
-
Q: Is it bannable?
A: While this process happens locally within your Steam client, Steam doesn't actually know that you're playing the game nor that you have a fake game in your library and all changes are done only on the local client side and mostly safe. There are no reported bans for using this tool yet, and this workaround has existed for a decade, ban risks are pretty much little to none, and it seemed Valve never cared much of the tools or scripts that modifies or uses steam.
However there are risks, If Valve really ever implements a type of strict logging system when downloading the game files in the future to detect this kind of activity, there will likely be consequences. In terms of games, it depends on the legitmate game your playing, some online games that have an anticheat will likely false detect this tool as a cheat so be cautious when using OpenSteamTool!
In case of steam ever adds some sort of logging system that might cause a ban wave, you can download the game files safely using DepotDownloader Mod or Accela. Ensure that the IPV6 is turned off when using them.

Q: What makes this unique than traditional pirating?
A: A lot of reasons. For starters in traditional pirating, whether you download a game via torrent or direct download methods (which usually are in archive formats such as RAR, ZIP, etc or done in repack installers) they take a lot of space especially when unpacking the game. Meanwhile this tool only downloads the game files directly from the steam servers meaning you don't have to unpack or extract the game and save more space. There are also large chances you can get a very obscure games on steam that aren't normally accessible most pirate sites. Also downloading mods in workshop does work and can automatically update it for you.
Installation Guide:
- Download OpenSteamTool on this github repository and go to "releases" to download the latest file. At the time of making this rentry, the latest version is 1.4.8.

- Make sure you download the "release version" of OST if your going to use it for average use.

- Extract the contents inside the archive/zip of this tool to any folder you like you extract. Once extracted select
dwmapi.dllandOpenSteamTool.dllthen paste it in the main steam directory atC:\Program Files (x86)\Steam. Make sure your steam is not running during this process. You can also either usedwmapi.dllorxinput1_4.dllbut dwmapi is far more recommended. Do not use/extract both of them at the same time.

- After this, create a folder called
luainside the config folder.

- Once done you can install any steam game you want by using a lua dispenser.
More service links will be mentioned below, for now we will use this one service called hubcap as an example.
To get a game, you must get the appid of a steam game you want to play. For this example I will get a copy of Prey (2017) to my steam library.
There are two ways to get steamid of a game, you can either:
Just copy the id of the game on the game's steam page.

OR
Go the the game's steamdb page and copy the appid.

- Now I'm using the bot on hubcap discord to download the files.

- Once the download is complete, ignore ALL manifest files inside as OpenSteamTool will take care of them automatically, make sure you only use the lua file. After that extract the file to the Lua folder in the steam's config folder.

- After that your pretty much done, you can now download any steam game whenever you want!
Note: Some games still has a DRM intact as it only downloads the clean steam files (uncracked game files) directly from steam servers, the game dosen't know that the user is authorized or know that you owned the game so you have to sometimes crack them manually with goldberg or a scene release/P2P crack.
