Masukuda (Masu for short) is the unfortunate youngest daughter of the once powerful Rarime clan. Faced with repeated humiliations (such as his heir’s capture) Masu’s father resolved to restore his clan to glory by turning his daughter into the perfect assassin. Someone who not even the greatest of Jonin could sense the presence of before she struck.
Her father’s training method was horrible. Masu could only eat if no-one saw her sneak into the kitchen. If he, a Jonin, found her during the day she’d be beaten. If he found where she slept she’d be thrown into the river. If he saw her three times in a day she’d be killed and he’d start over with her younger sister.
The method succeeded. Masu is an absurd master of stealth. Out of necessity she learned to utilize her clan’s kekkai genkai to bend the light around her allowing her to become completely invisible. Her stealth skills are said to be on par with a Jonin. Many in the city marvel at Masu’s potential and wonder what new heights she’ll bring the Rarime clan to.
Her father is very proud.
That this training method came with severe side effects was beyond her father’s ability to give a damn. She never learned to speak openly and even now she has a habit of speaking in clipped 3-word sentences. She has developed a habit of digging into her skin with her nails until she draws blood, then using her medical training to conceal the evidence. That she even realizes what she’s doing to herself is wrong is something of a miracle. Her father never bothered teaching something like morality.
Personality:
Masu is an eerie child. Quiet. She never seems to realize whether she has permission to speak. She has an awful habit of befriending random animals. Growing up, her only playmates were the rats, bugs and frogs under the manor’s crawl space. One of the few times she’ll actually smile is when she holds a frog in her hand.
Combat:
Masu’s first instinct is to disappear from view and effect the rapid elimination of soft targets using the flashier applications of her Light Jutsu. If she’s with her team she tries to stick close but unseen so that she can cover them with her concealment arts or heal them when they’re injured. She’s a, mostly, self-taught medical nin, but she’s more than good enough for ‘field work.’ She’s also extraordinarily talented at avoiding and bringing others out of genjutsu.
With Other People:
Masu has no concept of social distance. The only intimate moments she ever shared with her family were after she mastered Active Camo and would stick close to them during the day. Jokes will fly over her head, but if you start laughing she might try to laugh too… awkwardly. She just hopes your happy. Happy people don’t hit.
Masu can be extremely submissive when someone raises her voice at her. If yelling starts Masu is likely to disappear for hours to days until she thinks you won’t scream at her again.
Relationship with her Father:
She’s terrified of her father. It’s an almost religious fear. It’s unlikely she’ll ever stand up to him on her own. Hopefully the time away from him ninja training allows will give her some perspective.
Mother:
Masu is confused by her mother. In private, when her father isn’t around, her mother is extremely clingy and keeps apologizing to Masu. When her father is around, her mother can’t bring herself to so much as look at her daughter. She buys Masu all sorts of presents every day. The manor’s crawl space is filled with toys that Masu has no idea what to do with. Sometimes she offers them to a passing mouse, but they don’t know what to do with them either.
Big Brother:
A non-entity in Masu’s life. He was captured during the last war, disowned by her father and exiled from the village. Masu isn’t even sure he’s still alive.
Little Sister:
A spoiled brat who seemed to get all the love and attention from her father that Masu wasn’t able to receive. Masu avoids her sister due to one incident when her sister spotted her and told their dad…. The sister hates Masu and thinks she’s WEIRD for always avoiding her and father. She’s not a bad person, just stupid.
