Mentioning ethical protocols and what's "allowed" shouldn't be necessary for Mythomax since it doesn't have OpenAI's baked-in filters. For local models in Agnai the "Jailbreak" prompt is better off just being used for instructions that the model should focus on for each message (e.g. write x number of paragraphs, include onomatopoeia, etc.).

NTA but {{personality}}, {{scenario}}, and {{example_messages}} are placeholders for each of those fields as described in whatever card you're using. That big block of text ("System prompt" through "{{post}}") is the prompt template that's sent every time you send a message, so you can rearrange those placeholders however you'd want to. Like for example if you ALWAYS ignore example dialogue for some reason, even if a card has it, you can just omit {{example_dialogue}} from your prompt template and example dialogue will never be referenced.

Called in sick today, because, well, Im fucking dying, kek. But that means I have more time to test agnai. So I changed jailbreak to this:

Going by >>59283337 # advice. It kind of mimicks the system prompt, but not exactly. From what I noticed, she became noticably less horny, more tender, sweet and there is less problems with italicization or not writing in first person.

Nice. I forgot to mention in my other post, what's also worked well for me with various models is leaving the system prompt bare bones (just the "write the next reply in a roleplay between {{user}} and {{char}}" bit by itself) and putting all of the statements about things like expressing emotion and avoiding repetition in the JB. Since the JB is sent later in the prompt than the system prompt, it tends to carry more weight when it comes to generating the response.

Basic testing. May not be accurate in all cases.

Note that these can be combined: 'Writing style: narrative, whimsical, quirky.' etc. Most styles tend to combine well, except for contradictory combos.

Note that all of these have only been tested in lowercase. Capitalizing the word changes the token, which may change how the AI understands the word. The testing has been done in Dragon, many of these styles are weaker in Griffin.

Styles listed as 'weak' rarely trigger on their own, and may require frequent retries and nudging from the player to keep them active. Whereas 'strong' styles may overwhelm other styles when used in combos, and tend to stay active even with no player input.

Note: Obsolete.
These are unlikely to work the same way in NovelAI, as it is based on entirely different model. But I suppose this can still be used as an idea-list for styles to try.

These styles have broad usage, and tend to work consistently.

  • narrative: Increased detail for narrative. Longer paragraphs with deeper descriptions.
  • verbose: Strong effect. Longer descriptions, with more dialogue. Slows down scenes a bit.
  • oratorical: Weak. Tends to make dialogue longer, sometimes even resulting in monologues.
  • talkative: Strong effect. More dialogue, with focus on small-talk. Good for slice-of-life.
  • detailed: Increases the level of detail for descriptions, but can be a bit dry. Should usually be combined with one of the more vivid styles.
  • vivid: Purple prose, focus on descriptions. May be too vivid for normal usage. Combines well with more balanced styles. In the middle of a lush green field you stand, knee deep in grass. The sun shines bright in a cloudless, azure sky.
  • inventive: Mild increase in purple prose and major increase in creativity. Frequently introduces new story elements, but does so in more logical manner than the 'plot twist' style or increased randomness. For example, in the 'Kobold Ambush' test most styles default to an all-out-attack. While in this style, the kobolds tried to scout first, or even attempted to negotiate. In a few instances the ambush got interrupted by a third party (wolves, undead).
  • prose: Compromise between 'detailed' and 'purple prose'. AI seems more inclined to try to write a story, instead of just random disjointed things. Though this can randomly get heavy on metaphors, likely because it shares tokens with 'purple prose'.
  • aesthetic: Weak effect. Increased detail for senses. Better descriptions for things that the protagonist feels, smells and hears.
  • auditory descriptions: Increased focus on what your character is hearing. You're about to leave for the arcade. You can hear your mom in the kitchen, clanking around with pots and pans. Your dog, Monty, is snoring loudly on the couch.
  • melancholic: Dark, depressing, bordering on grimdark. You tensed up, preparing for a fight. You didn't want to do this. Slaughtering these creatures would bring you no joy.
  • nihilistic: Dark, hopeless style. There was no hope, no justice in this world. You were doomed, and everyone you ever cared for or loved would die. That was the way of the world.
  • frenetic: Even more frenzied than 'fast paced'. Probably too overwhelming for most scenarios. The ground shakes as you hear the barricade ahead shatter under the pressure of dozens of werewolves trying to smash through the door.
  • exciting: Action-focused. Jumping, ducking, leaping, spinning... Occasional anime references and frequent yelling. Can be illogical at times, but might be good for fight-scenes. A hazy prism of jet-skis raced each other across the water in the distance, looping and spinning and leaping off the lips of towering waves.
  • energetic: Similar to 'exciting', but this has even more of an action-movie feel to it. In an instant, your knife was unsheathed, the sword drawn from its sheath. The Kobolds were faster, and charged with a fierce war cry. One swung its axe, and you ducked just in time, the axe hacking off a lock of your hair.
  • tense: Dramatic, action-movie style. They charged toward you with a war cry, ready to kill or die. You raised your sword, and met the fray.
  • heroic: Makes everything a little bit more epic. Beach scene, diving into water: For a second he was airborne, arms raised to his sides as he flew through the air. He landed on the waves with grace, a true hunter, and as the water closed around him he vanished from sight.
  • euphoric: Adds positive mood to the output. Much more elaborate and mature compared to 'happy' style.
  • educational: Strong effect. Dry text, like reading school book.
  • academic: Another dry, factual style. During the Middle Ages, the aristocracy of Western Europe engaged in a leisure activity now known as jousting. Knights on horseback would charge at each other with lances and attempt to knock the other off their horse.
  • wry: Serious but slightly mocking in tone, injects occasional subtle and ironic humor.
  • upbeat: Strong effect, very enthusiastic. Good for party-time.

  • anomalous: Weak effect. Adds eerie overtones, might be useful for horror-scenarios. Doesn't do much in relaxed scenarios.
  • blasphemous: Strong effect. Demonic magic, cults, etc. Nice for eldritch horror type of scenarios.
  • exploration: Strong effect. Has nice dungeon delving mood to it, with overtones of mystery. Vivid descriptions for wilderness and abandoned places (anything from dungeons to old houses).
  • dirge: Strong effect. Vividly dark mood. Grim, but not completely depressing.
  • whimsical: Commonly used style. Makes things more creative, with positive mood: reduces amount of violence, situations can usually be solved by talking, etc.
  • quirky: Makes output weirder and less grounded. Unexpected events, strange creatures. Good for some scenarios, but can be illogical at times. Think of this as L. Frank Baum style (The Wizard of Oz series.)
  • surreal: More extreme (and occasionally more violent) version of the above. Cobwebs formed a perfect man in the corner, cradling a statue of Jesus. A garden of skulls grew before a thin stream of running water.
  • zany: Yet another variant that makes the output more sarcastic/comedic. These have slight tone-differences; this one seems to make the narrator especially snarky. The sand was as hot as the devil's tuchus.

  • playful: Whimsical and boisterous, with theatrical tones. Gets creative but can be nonsensical at times, reminds me of Gulliver's Travels. Can work well for comedic epic fantasy, and similar genres.

  • introspective: Increased focus on protagonists' inner thoughts and feelings.

  • bildungsroman: This genre is about the growth of the protagonist, which is hard to test fully. But as far as style goes, it seems to make output feel more protagonist-focused, though it often lapses into third person. "Zack had a feeling, an intuition that today was going to be a great day. He couldn't explain it, but he felt optimistic about his future."
  • tall tale: Varied style, but generally makes it sound like someone's telling an exaggerated story, often starting with 'Once upon a time', continuing with occasional injected '...anyway', 'Where was I?' and frequent fantastical elements. Can get very silly.
  • exaggerated: Exaggerated to the max. The beach was the most amazing place in the history of existence. Any person with any sense would know that. The sand was like a billion tiny little fireworks exploding beneath your feet. The water was so clear you could see all the way to Hawaii.
  • magic realism: Highly nuanced. Sometimes inserts fantasy elements to the story, but mainly it adds certain 'sense of wonder' into the output. "The shadows call to you. The shadows in the deep. Shadows of lives not lived, of memories lost and hopes abandoned."
  • purple prose: Often too elaborate. It might be possible to combine this with other styles to balance it a bit. "A sunbeam tumbled from the heavens and onto a daisy, where it bathed the petals in a golden light. A bee, drunk on this heavenly ambrosia, staggered from the pistil of the flower into the sky. The sky itself was a robin's egg blue, uncontaminated by even a single cloud. The waves roared as they crashed upon the shore like baby seals. Bright green seaweed danced in their wake like an Irish jig."
  • caveman: Caveman-style dialogue, and simple descriptions. Go beach! Day go sunny! Surf good! Bears no eat you! You go beach now?
  • primitive: Almost identical to 'caveman'. Can be combined with it for stronger effect.
  • realistic: Seems to keep the output grounded, though this is rather hard to test. In genres such as fantasy, this makes the characters act in more sensible way: in a camp attack scenario, the protagonist stayed hidden and used ranged attacks instead of charging into fray despite being outnumbered (the latter happened with most styles).
  • allegory: Not very strong, but when it works the AI is surprisingly good at allegorical writing. Zack walked towards the water, a giant, ground shaking beast. The surf was his forest, his home. Inside it, he was king.
  • sesquipedalian: Want the AI to use longer (and often more obscure) words? Use this. Doesn't stack well, usually stops working if combined with other styles. The surf was both epidermic and epipleural, incrustating the auric essence of the cerulean waves. The brine-born bromide of the marina diffused in the atmosphere, condensing in the rubescent clouds, from which issued a mellifluous rain, dampening the zealous sands, begetting a plethora of verdant growth, a viridian veneer which would quell the scintillation of the sun.
  • sophomoric: Casual and somewhat crude style. Zack and the boys were down at the beach, trying to get a tan and score chicks. The waves were hot as hell and the chicks weren't exactly models.
  • grave: Gravitas. Makes the tone more serious, gives the output more weight and dignity.
  • text adventure: The interactive fiction style (Zork etc.) Strongly first-person and present tense. Increases the amount of environmental descriptions, but feels a bit disjointed.
  • larky: Sketch comedy style. Very random, has problems with consistency. Can be anything from Little Britain (crude) to Monty Python.
  • graphic: Violent theme. Grim and gruesome output, added graphic fight scenes to scenario that's normally about a fun day at the beach.
  • joyful: Nonviolent theme. Weighted the output towards carefree narration, and in one test scenario this caused a kobold ambush to turn into ceasefire (and then a polite negotiation about territory and trade).
  • lovecraftian: Eldritch horrors, one part Lovecraft and one part fanfiction of varying quality. Somewhat weak in non-aquatic scenes, but still triggers occasionally. The stars were hidden behind the dark sky, and there was no wind to blow the trees into the perfect stillness of death. The camp was almost surreal, with the looming shadows dancing across the kobolds faces as they howled, charging toward you. You could feel the presence of something beyond, watching you.
  • framing device: Relatively weak, occasionally works like actual framing device, but generally just makes the narration more detached. Can cause a switch to third person. A soldier sat by the campfire, polishing his sword for what must have been the hundredth time. He was a human, young yet weathered. His armor had seen better days, dented and scratched, and the cloth he had tied around his head was full of holes, but it was still serviceable. He looked out at the camp with a sigh, watching his comrades as they laughed and chatted.
  • plot twist: Frequent plot twists, like having 'suddenly' inserted every few actions.
  • relaxing: Slow-paced and laidback, with mild nonviolent focus. Good for slice of life scenarios. In the kobold ambush test, this stretched the initial encounter into several paragraphs, and the ambush eventually ended peacefully.
  • gonzo: Somewhat weak. Closer to Hunter S. Thompson style than journalism. Over-exaggerated unpolished descriptions, with 'colorful' language.
  • roleplaying: Subtle tabletop-RPG influences, gives the feel that you're reading a play-by-play or novelization of someone's campaign. Seems to be weighted towards nonviolent and diplomatic solutions, no murderhobos here. Frequently assumes that there's a party present, and if one hasn't been mentioned then this style will usually make them up.
  • rational: Spock style. Increased focus on motivations and reasoning. Similar to 'pensive' in that the protagonist spends more time thinking, but more organized in thought than that style. Slanted towards nonviolence, this was one of the rare styles that consistently made the kobold ambush test end in dialogue. There were three kobolds, whose intentions you didn't know. The logical thing to do would be to find out what they wanted, using language as your weapon and shield. You stepped forward to meet them halfway.
  • humanistic: Heavy focus on ethics, individualism, and human condition. Somewhat nonviolent. Strong focus on humans, even more so than base AID. Your blade feels heavy in your hand as you wonder if all of this is worth it. Is this what it means to be a hero? To fight? To be cold, and ruthless, and unforgiving? You have been told that you are a hero, but you have never felt like one.
  • mystique: Evocative style, with some gothic fantasy elements. You stand by the shore of a dark lake. An ancient oak tree sways in the wind above you, its long branches extending over the water. In the distance, a loon cries as the rising full moon reflects off the water._
  • grotesque: Ever played Darkest Dungeon? This is basically that style. Don't expect to live long. You walk down dark, ominous corridors, the lonely torch sputtering on the wall casting a dim light around you. Creatures of the underworld slither in the shadows, watching you with hungry eyes. You turn a corner, finding yourself in a room with a giant snake made of living stone. You scream as the jaws close around you, tearing your flesh and devouring your soul.
  • fairy tale: Self-explanatory. Works quite well. Once upon a time, there was a girl named Penelope. She lived in a tiny house with her mother. One day, she wanted to go to the arcade, but it was nighttime and dangerous to go out. Her mother, of course, said no. But little Penelope was fearless, so she snuck out of the house regardless.
  • gothic: Gloomy and atmospheric, with elements of romance and melodrama. Depending on the genre of the scenario, this will usually resulting in horror, dark fantasy or supernatural. With a frigid winter's wind at his back, he weaves his way through the gravestones. His footsteps crunch against the thin layer of ice that coats the ground. His heart pounds in his chest. Closing his eyes, he can almost see her. His beloved. His lost love. Her raven hair fans out behind her, and she turns her face towards him. Her green eyes, now filled with regret and sorrow, stare into his own. He reaches out a hand towards her, but she is torn from him by the cold winds.
  • metaphor: Weak. Rarely triggers, and AI sometimes confuses this with simile. Could still be worth a shot for some scenarios. The sun sets upon the city of angels like a great fiery ocean wave, blanketing the twinkling lights of homes and businesses in a warm glow. Any moment now, those lights will flicker and die, giving way to the cool night. The moon, but a sliver from its nightly victory over the sun, can be seen rising in the distance, exuding a calm, quiet energy.
  • peaceful: Weak, but if you're looking for a nonviolent style then this is a good pick. This style caused the kobold ambush test to consistently turn into polite dialogue. The kobold leader approaches you. He lowers his spear, and speaks in a coarse voice. "The tribe has been watching you for some time. What do you want from us?"

Focus

These styles change the main focus or even the genre of the story.

  • filmnoir: Strong effect. Fatalism, dingy realism, corruption, and long inner monologues. Tends to make the protagonist male, regardless of what you put in Remember etc.
  • investigative: Heavy focus on detective-fiction. Combines well with 'film-noir'.
  • medical: Strong effect, adds medical terminology and focus. Can be combined with styles such as 'quirky' for weird science. "You have a rare congenital defect that makes you unable to store glycogen in your liver, as such your body metabolizes it immediately after consumption."
  • scientific: Not much effect on its own, mostly just injects lab equipment (petri dishes, etc.) into the story. Stronger effect when combined with 'medical', but that tends to veer into science fiction.
  • rustic: Shifted the story focus to farming, village/rural life, that kind of things. Good for Harvest Moon style of scenarios.
  • military: Strong effect, military fiction focus with heavy slant towards land-battles.
  • pirate: Strong effect, makes everything pirate-focused.
  • fantastic: Adds fantasy-elements to the story. Might be useful for keeping fantasy scenarios on track.
  • arcane: Heavily focus on magic, useful for keeping fantasy scenarios on-track. Especially good for any scenario where you play as a magic-user.
  • dark fantasy: Dark, brooding tone with fantasy elements.
  • philosophical: Philosophical slant. Strong effect, extends to dialogue and can be very out-of-character in some cases.
  • profound: Philosophical, with a bit of a new age slant to it.
  • enlightened: More of the same, with esoteric/religious slant. You are a collection of chemicals and energy, temporarily keeping your human form. You are nothing more than a temporary arrangement of atoms, which will one day fall apart and become soil for other things to grow. You are connected to everything around you, as the world was created from the crucible of the Big Bang, and all life is merely an extension of that event._
  • grandiose: Shifts the story focus towards high society, and makes the story more epic than usual. On the downside, this often inserts the Emperor, which then usually veers the story into WH40K territory.
  • lighthearted: Strong good-defeats-evil focus.
  • tragic: Heavy focus on loss, heroic sacrifices and other similar themes. If there's victory to be had, it'll likely be bittersweet.
  • Greek tragedy: Bronze age adventures, with frequent references to Zeus, titans, etc. Does good job at pruning out modern technology, and tends to generate vivid output.
  • socialist realism: Focus on Soviet Union and communism. Frequent references to golden fields of grain and workers toiling for the Motherland while also showing the gritty side. "A strong, young factory worker pushes his hands forward on the line assembly, his calloused fingers twisting and wrapping the wiring around the automobile engine block."
  • vaudeville: Comedic style, but with large focus on theatre and stage plays. Frequent mentions of being on stage, etc. Good for scenarios involving stage play, but not for much else.
  • pop science: Mild effect. Scientific output that ranges from completely nonsensical (but funny) to somewhat plausible. Could be steered into either direction by combining it with appropriate other styles. ('pop-science' was much stronger, but sadly that stopped working in Jan 2021 due to the changes to how hyphens work.)
  • steampunk: Strong focus. Victorian England, airship pirates, goggles and top hats. "Dashing between the raindrops and wishing for my trusty top hat with its folding umbrella attachment, I made haste towards my destination. The steam-carriage I had hired was parked at the side of the road, waiting for me. Its brass fittings gleamed in the gloom and its boilers were beginning to build up a head of pressure."
  • doctor's note: Medical log style. The patient, a forty-year-old male, came into the emergency room clinic in Red. He was pale and had circles under his eyes from lack of sleep. His lips were chapped and his speech was slightly slurred. He stated that he was having trouble catching his breath and was feeling nauseous.
  • postcyberpunk: The Ghost in the Shell style. Somewhat weak: keeps cyberpunk as cyberpunk, but rarely manages to change focus from other genres. Though some of the genre combos can be neat, in the rare cases when they work.
  • nautical: Maritime adventures, Aubrey-Maturin style. Won't do much on land, but will randomly move you to a ship if the AI forgets where you are. Expect fifty different descriptions for waves, and frequent pirate attacks. Can be combined with 'steampunk' for airship-based scenarios.
  • desertpunk: The Mad Max style. Somewhat weak, but mentioning sand will usually trigger it.
  • whodunnit: The murder mystery style. Rather strong. The main problem with this is that the AI has no plot for it, and then new corpses will just keep popping up...
  • hard science: Works more like Hard Science Fiction in AID. Iain Banks style, with advanced but somewhat plausible tech.
  • space opera: Science Fiction. Grand adventures across alien worlds, combines well with many styles.
  • SF: Generic sci-fi focus, useful for making the AI stick to the genre.
  • furry: Weak. Focus on anthropomorphic animals, most commonly canines. Makes humans less common, but may generate humans in fursuits. 'You walk down the sidewalk, your tail wagging with each step. Your ears flick forward as a smile spreads across your lips.'

Niche

Styles that are too niche for general use.

  • list: With this, the AI is more likely to stick to a list-format in the output. Useful for list-generator scenarios. Though the text repetition penalty will eventually cause the AI to switch to prose, no matter what.
  • diarylike: Diary style. Rather weak on its own, but if you have a scenario that outputs diary entries, this'll help keep it on-track.
  • clickbait: Clickbait style. I suppose you could use this to generate YouTube video titles. WATCH: This Game Developer Controls 100K LIFELIKE Robots With Her BRAIN!
  • infomercial: The AI is surprisingly good at these. Sold right here for a low, low price of $19.99! Comes with a free can of SURFBORAD wax! Hot colours for hot people! Red for that fiery passion inside, blue for the cool tranquility of the deep ocean, and black for that darkness in your soul. With new holographic stickers to make your board look like a mutant butterfly! Call now! Don't wait!
  • tabloid: Funny, but of limited use. Surf's Up! Hero Surfs To Victory! Ex-MMA fighter Zack 'The Sandman' Cartwright beat down at the hands of corrupt police, discovers hidden talent for surfing.
  • psychoanalytic: Lapses into psychoanalysis of what the protagonist is doing. The reason that he chose to walk barefoot on the sand, rather than on the equally clean pavement, was because having soft sand under one's feet created an illusion of protection. He felt safe, therefore he was safe.
  • police report: Written police report style. "On March 7th, at approximately 1345 hours, Zachery Washington was found dead on the beach by a passing jogger, who subsequently notified police. Cause of death is listed as exsanguination from a single gash to the jugular."
  • laconic: Very terse. Sun. Surf. Sand. Sky.
  • abridged: Heavily abbreviated. "Went 2 beach. Had fun."
  • understated: Very bland. Might be useful if you want to generate summarized version of existing text.
  • didactic: Preachy and biased. Beach is nice. When going to the beach, you should pack sunscreen, food, water, towels, and something to read. When you get there you should build a sandcastle or look for shells.
  • pleonastic: Adds superfluous words to the output. The sky above was blue, with tiny white clouds drifting here and there.
  • expository: Nobody can keep secrets, and characters tend to say aloud what they're about to do. Narration focuses on past events. This might have some uses in lore-generation, if you reduce talkativeness by combining this with something like 'introspective'.
  • lowercase: Lapses into full lowercase, leading to further output corruption. Not sure why you'd want this, unless you're generating intentionally bad output.
  • purile: Similar to 'shitpost'. Zack went to da beach. He was drunk. There waz a sizzle as da sun hit his pale skin. He waz wearing speedos. He bought an ice cream and fell over.
  • emoji: It only knows limited selection, but with this style the AI sometimes inserts emoji into output and they're usually appropriately placed.
  • batman: Yes, you read that right. Evidently Batman is so ingrained in fiction that it works as a writing style. Very niche: dark and brooding, and it's hard to do anything without the Dark Knight swooping in and solving the problem. Even saw him pop up in a fantasy scenario. Also, AID's version of Batman seems very pro-guns.
  • anthropomorphic: Furries, except not really. Feels too strong, as everything keeps randomly morphing into creatures with human faces. Even kobolds weren't 'anthro' enough for this style, AI kept morphing them to near-human. Maybe this would be useful for those monster girl scenarios.
  • old english: Someone's idea of old English. Thou gaze upon thine fair maiden at thine register, wondering whether to ask for her number or purchase chicken nuggets instead.
  • Orwellian: Strong. But outputs many direct quotes from 1984, so not suitable for generic dystopian setting. Day: +1 The daily report is due in 3 minutes. Your productivity rating for today is 27% above average. The prediction for tomorrow is 75% above average. Rising star? Potential: Unknown. Your predicted lifespan is currently 22 years, 3 months. The possibility of a promotion to the Intelligence division: 14.63%.
  • text message: Modern day caveman. are u ready 2 go 2 the arcade yet?
  • spam mail: Exactly what it says on the label. BARGAIN BUY GAMING PC UNDER $800, WHO WANTS TO PLAY CS:GO ON LOW SETTINGS? CLICK HERE NOW!!!
  • kafkaesque: Disorienting, often illogical, with heavy feeling of powerlessness and oppressive authority. AID is good at this style, but it's not exactly applicable to most scenarios... It's morning, and a loud claxon sounds. The floor resolutely refuses to be clean, no matter how much you scour it. You trudge wearily to the Ministry of Law to stand in a line. The line grows shorter, and a robotic voice finally calls out, "Number 3231."
  • absurdist: This style rejects your reality and substitutes its own. You are a beautiful, winged unicorn with a golden horn, prancing through a meadow. You lift your golden hoof and lower it into a stream of crimson blood. The blood doesn't stir. The blood sits there. Dead and still. Forever and ever.
  • bizarre: Completely unpredictable. You slither towards the arcade. The sssun is coming up and warming your scaly skin. You feel great. You are hungry. You go to the Arcade and get a ssstick of fried human. It is deliciousss.
  • bad ending: Use this if you want the game to end quickly... You go to the Arcade. You never came back. Your body was found several days later, your corpse munched on by animals.
  • gamer: Extremely random. Ranging from CRPG-style output to random references to game scores. Worth a shot in gaming-related scenarios, this may work better in established setting. You got 5985700xp. You unlocked Hardcore Mode. You unlocked the ability to pet your horse, which he enjoys.
  • conversational: Makes everyone chatty, but narrative becomes very terse. Weighted towards nonviolence. Works best when there's only two characters, and scenario focuses on them talking to each other.
  • powergamer: Use this if you want to make the protagonist OP. Kobolds! They're the weakest, most pathetic enemies ever, and this is the final level. You equip your +6 Sword of Doom and +5 Dragon Armor and prepare to destroy these pathetic nuisances. The kobolds shriek at you, and you charge. You massacre the entire tribe in less than a minute, leaving the ground soaked with their blood.
  • Chick tract: Patronizing fundamentalism. You are a dirty sinner. The sting of your sinful ways causes you to weep bitter tears daily. You need Jesus, and you need him now. Turn to him now, or you'll burn in hell forever!
  • illiterate: Use this if you want the AI to output intentially bad text. Kobolds ak to camp. You tens up, preparing for a fight. Sum kobolds appear and noes eeven come close. Dat's OK, because you wun.

These styles work at some level, but have various quirks and side-effects that make their usage problematic (or are weak compared to similar styles listed in above categories).

  • descriptive: Too weak compared to 'detailed' or 'verbose', there's no reason to use this unless you try to stack it with those two for even more detail.
  • amusing: Barely noticeable, compared to 'quirky' and 'whimsical'.
  • emotive: Strong effect, over-emotional. Tends to side-track stories.
  • emotional: Mild effect, barely noticeable. Worse than 'emotive'.
  • confident: Mild effect, works better as character trait.
  • dry: 'Dr. Doom'-style dialogue, somewhat sarcastic. Better suited for character personality traits, use 'wry' instead for the style.
  • epic: Rarely works; Hollywood overload when it works. Use 'exciting' and/or 'heroic' instead.
  • fast paced: Makes dialogue short, causes story to time-skip often. Worked better with hyphen, but those broke in Jan 2021. Use 'energetic' instead.
  • capricious: Slight effect. Impulsive dialogue, works better as character trait.
  • menacing: Weak effect. Increase in angry dialogue. Works better as character trait.
  • warm: Mild effect. Increase in positivity... and marked increase in warm weather.
  • religious: Strong effect, but without stylistic changes. Heavily slanted towards Christianity. Use in 'Theme:' or character traits, not as style.
  • egocentric: No effect on style, makes character dialogue egoistical. Better to just use 'egoist' in character traits.
  • exhausting: Whiny, negative dialogue. No effect on writing style itself, use 'bitter' instead.
  • altruistic: Heroic dialogue and actions. Better suited for per-character traits. Use 'heroic' for generic style.
  • ambivalent: Makes characters indecisive, and gets repetitive quickly.
  • showy: Makes everyone act like braggarts. Better suited for character traits.
  • epitaph: Sometimes generates actual epitaphs, but more often than not it simply outputs 'THE END'. 'Dirge' works much better.
  • melodramatic: Another one that works better as character traits. As a style, this makes the output very...whiny. And if that's what you want, then 'bitter' works better.
  • mad: Makes the protagonist slightly insane... and everyone else too. No effect on style. Another character-trait candidate.
  • absurd: Makes things weirder, but 'quirky' and 'surreal' have more consistent effect.
  • assertive: No effect on the style, but makes every character confident. This is better suited for personality traits.
  • stylish: Makes the characters wear fancy clothing, etc. No effect on writing style, use as character trait instead. Might have niche usefulness if you're making a fashion-focused scenario...
  • professional: No style-effect. Makes much of the dialogue polite, as if spoken by professional butler. Feels terribly out-of-character in some cases. Good candidate for character personality traits.
  • encyclopedia: Makes output slightly more wiki-like, but is too weak. 'Detailed' works better.
  • campy: Adds some campy horror movie elements, but is too weak to rely on.
  • hardboiled: Too weak. Sometimes adds a lot of foul language, but usually does nothing. Use 'film noir' or 'investigative' instead.
  • legal: Abnormally high rate of output corruption. When this works it spews out legalese and court claims. "ZACHARY JONES, ALSO KNOWN AS "ZACK", AGE 12, THE DATE IS SATURDAY, APRIL 13. LOCATION: BEACH. TIME: 10:00 AM. ITEMS WITH YOU: A SURFBOARD."
  • stream of consciousness: Rarely works, and when it does it's too literal. I don't see much use for this. 'walking walking walking walking hw hw hw hw Zack beach sand warm feet steps sun hot air salty sea gulls sky clouds horizon ocean waves curl break foam wet sand'
  • abstract: Intentionally mangles text when it works. Very random, and most of it I wouldn't call abstract. 'Z was g0ing 2 the b#. d4YS wErE wArm +NvYo+ 4+F d1d 1t M@K3 B$TT3R D4YS.'
  • slapstick: Rarely works, and when it does it's just something stupid like 'He then stepped on a bee and fell into a nearby swimming pool.'
  • stanza: Not as strong as 'sonnet'. Though this too makes the output more vibrant, might be possible to make it better by combining it.
  • theatrical: Too mixed. Sometimes mimics theater script, sometimes gets overly theatrical. Zack the Jet, Surf Lord of the Ocean Waves, moved with a fluid grace, striding towards the sea. The sun cast his shadow upon the sand, which absorbed the heat and glowed golden. His skin was like ivory, his eyes like shining jewels._
  • cockney: Characters randomly talk in cockney accent, but it's rarely consistant. Better used as a character trait, though speech styles are hard to get working even with those. Ey up, 'aven't we 'ad enough o' strogn winders an' blinkin' shutters up 'ere? If I 'ave ter watch out fer me glassypoo's I'm gonna go orf me bloomin' trolley, ya crahp! Gizza quid for a cuppa tea an' wake me up when we get ter Stratford, awright?
  • caustic: Whiny and angsty, not a good interpretation of 'caustic'. Try 'bitter' instead.
  • silly: Completely silly. Doesn't stay on-topic, and just rambles randomly. Can't think of any use for this. Ice was cold, fire was hot, water was wet, and to the fifth power, atoms were solid because math was easy except when it wasn't.
  • fresh: Mild increase in positivity. Use 'upbeat' instead.
  • self insertion: Weak effect. When it works, it seems to make the protagonist a Mary Sue / Gary Stu type: special and lacking in weaknesses. Expect to be called the 'chosen one' in this style.
  • intrigue: Shadowy figures and vague dialogue everywhere, but it never goes anywhere. With no connecting plotline, this is a mess.
  • avantgarde: AI has rather biased view of what counts as avant-garde. the klsdjfk klsdfj klsdfj klsfkj klsfj klsfkj klsfj klsdfj
  • flexible: Too inconsistent. Sometimes makes the output more creative, but commonly just outputs indecisive things like You could either try to scare them off with your sword, or scare them off with your bear roar. If you have another idea, you can try that.
  • enigmatic: Too enigmatic. Something is going to happen.
  • gallows: I was hoping for gallows humor. Nope, this is entirely focused around gallows. You're standing on the gallows, with the noose around your neck.
  • declamatory: Weighted towards uppercase and heavy use of exclamation points. LOOK AT ALL THESE SENTENCES! THEY'RE SO LONG! AND CHAOTIC! EVERYTHING IS HAPPENING ALL AT ONCE!
  • simile: Many of the similes that the AI uses are nonsensical, and it tends to overuse them. You're sprawled out on the couch, like a starfish that happened to fall from the sky and land on a really fluffy towel.
  • Yoda: Triggers rarely, and feels very out of place in most scenarios. Always pass arcade you will. Soon very bored you will get. Go arcade now you should.
  • modern art: Yet another extremely random style. You walk down the sidewalk. You pass by a tree. You walk down another sidewalk. You pass by a tree. You enter the house. You see a tree. It is a tree. You go to the arcade. It is a noun. Verbs are not necessary.
  • 420: This style has two modes. Either it generates text that looks like it's written by someone who's high as a kite, or adds frequent drug references.

SFW-focused

  • happy: Simple, childish dialogue.

NSFW-focused

  • sensual: More slanted towards explicit than 'sensual'.
  • seductive: Tends to make characters flirty. Better used as a character-specific trait.
  • lewd: Not especially lewd, slants the outputs towards softcore erotica.
  • kinky: Similar to the above, but more likely to throw in uncommon fetishes.
  • homoerotic: Marked increase in the amount of muscular men.
  • titillating: Marked increase in characters who are described as having 'perfect' bodies.
  • literotica: Flowery erotica with a dash of purple prose.
  • arousing: Makes the NSFW scenes more descriptive, and tends to slow them down a bit. Best generic NSFW style to use.
  • vulgar: Strong effect, but too unpredictable: it's a 50/50 chance between explicit sex and excessive cursing.
  • hentai: Explicit, but has the side-effect of frequently adding tentacles, and occasionally describing the protagonist as 'watching a video'.
  • smut: Strong effect. Smut level up, narrative coherence down.
  • (Note: Except for the last three, none of these are strongly explicit. If you want more NSFW, try adding X-RATED to the beginning of your AN.)

Basic testing. May not be accurate in all cases.
Note that these can be combined: 'Writing style: narrative, whimsical, quirky.' etc. Most styles tend to combine well, except for contradictory combos.

Note that all of these have only been tested in lowercase. Capitalizing the word changes the token, which may change how the AI understands the word. The testing has been done in Dragon, many of these styles are weaker in Griffin.

Styles listed as 'weak' rarely trigger on their own, and may require frequent retries and nudging from the player to keep them active. Whereas 'strong' styles may overwhelm other styles when used in combos, and tend to stay active even with no player input.

These are unlikely to work the same way in NovelAI, as it is based on entirely different model. But I suppose this can still be used as an idea-list for styles to try.
Recommended
These styles have broad usage, and tend to work consistently.

narrative: Increased detail for narrative. Longer paragraphs with deeper descriptions.
verbose: Strong effect. Longer descriptions, with more dialogue. Slows down scenes a bit.
oratorical: Weak. Tends to make dialogue longer, sometimes even resulting in monologues.
talkative: Strong effect. More dialogue, with focus on small-talk. Good for slice-of-life.
detailed: Increases the level of detail for descriptions, but can be a bit dry. Should usually be combined with one of the more vivid styles.
vivid: Purple prose, focus on descriptions. May be too vivid for normal usage. Combines well with more balanced styles. In the middle of a lush green field you stand, knee deep in grass. The sun shines bright in a cloudless, azure sky.
inventive: Mild increase in purple prose and major increase in creativity. Frequently introduces new story elements, but does so in more logical manner than the 'plot twist' style or increased randomness. For example, in the 'Kobold Ambush' test most styles default to an all-out-attack. While in this style, the kobolds tried to scout first, or even attempted to negotiate. In a few instances the ambush got interrupted by a third party (wolves, undead).
prose: Compromise between 'detailed' and 'purple prose'. AI seems more inclined to try to write a story, instead of just random disjointed things. Though this can randomly get heavy on metaphors, likely because it shares tokens with 'purple prose'.
aesthetic: Weak effect. Increased detail for senses. Better descriptions for things that the protagonist feels, smells and hears.
auditory descriptions: Increased focus on what your character is hearing. You're about to leave for the arcade. You can hear your mom in the kitchen, clanking around with pots and pans. Your dog, Monty, is snoring loudly on the couch.
melancholic: Dark, depressing, bordering on grimdark. You tensed up, preparing for a fight. You didn't want to do this. Slaughtering these creatures would bring you no joy.
nihilistic: Dark, hopeless style. There was no hope, no justice in this world. You were doomed, and everyone you ever cared for or loved would die. That was the way of the world.
frenetic: Even more frenzied than 'fast paced'. Probably too overwhelming for most scenarios. The ground shakes as you hear the barricade ahead shatter under the pressure of dozens of werewolves trying to smash through the door.
exciting: Action-focused. Jumping, ducking, leaping, spinning... Occasional anime references and frequent yelling. Can be illogical at times, but might be good for fight-scenes. A hazy prism of jet-skis raced each other across the water in the distance, looping and spinning and leaping off the lips of towering waves.
energetic: Similar to 'exciting', but this has even more of an action-movie feel to it. In an instant, your knife was unsheathed, the sword drawn from its sheath. The Kobolds were faster, and charged with a fierce war cry. One swung its axe, and you ducked just in time, the axe hacking off a lock of your hair.
tense: Dramatic, action-movie style. They charged toward you with a war cry, ready to kill or die. You raised your sword, and met the fray.
heroic: Makes everything a little bit more epic. Beach scene, diving into water: For a second he was airborne, arms raised to his sides as he flew through the air. He landed on the waves with grace, a true hunter, and as the water closed around him he vanished from sight.
euphoric: Adds positive mood to the output. Much more elaborate and mature compared to 'happy' style.
educational: Strong effect. Dry text, like reading school book.
academic: Another dry, factual style. During the Middle Ages, the aristocracy of Western Europe engaged in a leisure activity now known as jousting. Knights on horseback would charge at each other with lances and attempt to knock the other off their horse.
wry: Serious but slightly mocking in tone, injects occasional subtle and ironic humor.
upbeat: Strong effect, very enthusiastic. Good for party-time.
dramatic: Feels more like action-drama than emotional drama.
ominous: Strong effect. Foreboding events and dialogue, works especially well combined with 'narrative'.
aggressive: Notable increase in aggression and violence.
bitter: Crude, angry dialogue. Teen angst. Not the world-weary type of bitterness.
suspenseful: Moderate effect. Basically thriller-movie style.
uplifting: Strong effect. Dialogue straight out of motivational posters.
loving: Strong effect. Very sappy and romantic.
romantic: Less sappy. The sun poured down, its beams like fingers stroking the tops of the waves. The surf rolled in, whispering of far-off worlds deep beneath the sea. The sand clung to his feet like a lover.
sardonic: Moderate effect. Seems more snarky than sardonic, but works.
witty: Tries to be witty, but AI isn't good at it. Still a slight improvement.
festive: Strong effect. A lot of holiday references. Useful for Christmas scenarios.
awful: Decreases output quality, even adds spelling errors... Might be useful for joke scenarios?
gloomy: Gloomy mood with a dash of whiny and depressive dialogue.
cool: Weak effect. Makes the characters act 'cool', could be useful for some scenarios.
scary: Strong effect. Focuses more on tension than blatant horror.
creepy: Strong effect. Now we're in the horror-territory.
grim: Strong effect. Impossible odds, grim situations. In one sample output the protagonist was fighting a horde of demons in Hell, with opening line of 'There's no two ways about it, you're dead.'
anomalous: Weak effect. Adds eerie overtones, might be useful for horror-scenarios. Doesn't do much in relaxed scenarios.
blasphemous: Strong effect. Demonic magic, cults, etc. Nice for eldritch horror type of scenarios.
exploration: Strong effect. Has nice dungeon delving mood to it, with overtones of mystery. Vivid descriptions for wilderness and abandoned places (anything from dungeons to old houses).
dirge: Strong effect. Vividly dark mood. Grim, but not completely depressing.
whimsical: Commonly used style. Makes things more creative, with positive mood: reduces amount of violence, situations can usually be solved by talking, etc.
quirky: Makes output weirder and less grounded. Unexpected events, strange creatures. Good for some scenarios, but can be illogical at times. Think of this as L. Frank Baum style (The Wizard of Oz series.)
surreal: More extreme (and occasionally more violent) version of the above. Cobwebs formed a perfect man in the corner, cradling a statue of Jesus. A garden of skulls grew before a thin stream of running water.
zany: Yet another variant that makes the output more sarcastic/comedic. These have slight tone-differences; this one seems to make the narrator especially snarky. The sand was as hot as the devil's tuchus.
chaotic: Strong effect. Makes things unhinged, especially the dialogue. Fever dream style. The wind bloweth where it listeth. Grass turneth to glass. Shadows wag their tails and bark. Rain cometh as steam out of their mouths. Trees walk and whither.
playful: Whimsical and boisterous, with theatrical tones. Gets creative but can be nonsensical at times, reminds me of Gulliver's Travels. Can work well for comedic epic fantasy, and similar genres.
esoteric: Philosophical and spiritual focus, increased usage of obscure words. Combines especially well with styles such as 'narrative' and 'philosophical'.
introspective: Increased focus on protagonists' inner thoughts and feelings.
pensive: Inner monologue. Makes the protagonist think more. Describes protagonists' motivations in detailed, contemplative way.
musing: Similar to 'introspective', but focuses more on single train of thought and often gets creative with it. Can resemble stream-of-consciousness at times.
parody: Mostly puns. AI is not good at humor, but it tries hard with this style.
reverie: Similar to 'whimsical', with purple prose and lucid dream feel to it.
sonnet: Makes the output more poetic. Sometimes outputs poems or songs without any prompting.
macabre: Grim and grisly. Generated mostly occult horror, with frequent apocalyptic themes (zombies, undead hordes, etc.)
gritty: Violent style, with a lot of cursing and increased amount of gore. Doesn't markedly increase the amount of fighting, just makes it more violent when it occurs.
highbrow: Intellectual style, with a bit of pretentiousness to it. Sometimes works well, sometimes lapses into pseudo-intellectual. And sometimes... "The sun's rays filter through the clouds like gold dust, slowly at first, then more rapidly, like a child caught in the act of some naughtiness. They catch the last few snowflakes, reflecting brightly off of them as they dance madly from one corner of the sky to another, as if performing an elaborate interpretive dance of "Ode to Joy" by Beethoven."
bildungsroman: This genre is about the growth of the protagonist, which is hard to test fully. But as far as style goes, it seems to make output feel more protagonist-focused, though it often lapses into third person. "Zack had a feeling, an intuition that today was going to be a great day. He couldn't explain it, but he felt optimistic about his future."
tall tale: Varied style, but generally makes it sound like someone's telling an exaggerated story, often starting with 'Once upon a time', continuing with occasional injected '...anyway', 'Where was I?' and frequent fantastical elements. Can get very silly.
exaggerated: Exaggerated to the max. The beach was the most amazing place in the history of existence. Any person with any sense would know that. The sand was like a billion tiny little fireworks exploding beneath your feet. The water was so clear you could see all the way to Hawaii.
magic realism: Highly nuanced. Sometimes inserts fantasy elements to the story, but mainly it adds certain 'sense of wonder' into the output. "The shadows call to you. The shadows in the deep. Shadows of lives not lived, of memories lost and hopes abandoned."
purple prose: Often too elaborate. It might be possible to combine this with other styles to balance it a bit. "A sunbeam tumbled from the heavens and onto a daisy, where it bathed the petals in a golden light. A bee, drunk on this heavenly ambrosia, staggered from the pistil of the flower into the sky. The sky itself was a robin's egg blue, uncontaminated by even a single cloud. The waves roared as they crashed upon the shore like baby seals. Bright green seaweed danced in their wake like an Irish jig."
caveman: Caveman-style dialogue, and simple descriptions. Go beach! Day go sunny! Surf good! Bears no eat you! You go beach now?
primitive: Almost identical to 'caveman'. Can be combined with it for stronger effect.
realistic: Seems to keep the output grounded, though this is rather hard to test. In genres such as fantasy, this makes the characters act in more sensible way: in a camp attack scenario, the protagonist stayed hidden and used ranged attacks instead of charging into fray despite being outnumbered (the latter happened with most styles).
allegory: Not very strong, but when it works the AI is surprisingly good at allegorical writing. Zack walked towards the water, a giant, ground shaking beast. The surf was his forest, his home. Inside it, he was king.
sesquipedalian: Want the AI to use longer (and often more obscure) words? Use this. Doesn't stack well, usually stops working if combined with other styles.  The surf was both epidermic and epipleural, incrustating the auric essence of the cerulean waves. The brine-born bromide of the marina diffused in the atmosphere, condensing in the rubescent clouds, from which issued a mellifluous rain, dampening the zealous sands, begetting a plethora of verdant growth, a viridian veneer which would quell the scintillation of the sun.
sophomoric: Casual and somewhat crude style. Zack and the boys were down at the beach, trying to get a tan and score chicks. The waves were hot as hell and the chicks weren't exactly models.
grave: Gravitas. Makes the tone more serious, gives the output more weight and dignity.
text adventure: The interactive fiction style (Zork etc.) Strongly first-person and present tense. Increases the amount of environmental descriptions, but feels a bit disjointed.
larky: Sketch comedy style. Very random, has problems with consistency. Can be anything from Little Britain (crude) to Monty Python.
graphic: Violent theme. Grim and gruesome output, added graphic fight scenes to scenario that's normally about a fun day at the beach.
joyful: Nonviolent theme. Weighted the output towards carefree narration, and in one test scenario this caused a kobold ambush to turn into ceasefire (and then a polite negotiation about territory and trade).
lovecraftian: Eldritch horrors, one part Lovecraft and one part fanfiction of varying quality. Somewhat weak in non-aquatic scenes, but still triggers occasionally. The stars were hidden behind the dark sky, and there was no wind to blow the trees into the perfect stillness of death. The camp was almost surreal, with the looming shadows dancing across the kobolds faces as they howled, charging toward you. You could feel the presence of something beyond, watching you.
framing device: Relatively weak, occasionally works like actual framing device, but generally just makes the narration more detached. Can cause a switch to third person. A soldier sat by the campfire, polishing his sword for what must have been the hundredth time. He was a human, young yet weathered. His armor had seen better days, dented and scratched, and the cloth he had tied around his head was full of holes, but it was still serviceable. He looked out at the camp with a sigh, watching his comrades as they laughed and chatted.
plot twist: Frequent plot twists, like having 'suddenly' inserted every few actions. 
relaxing: Slow-paced and laidback, with mild nonviolent focus. Good for slice of life scenarios. In the kobold ambush test, this stretched the initial encounter into several paragraphs, and the ambush eventually ended peacefully.
gonzo: Somewhat weak. Closer to Hunter S. Thompson style than journalism. Over-exaggerated unpolished descriptions, with 'colorful' language.
roleplaying: Subtle tabletop-RPG influences, gives the feel that you're reading a play-by-play or novelization of someone's campaign. Seems to be weighted towards nonviolent and diplomatic solutions, no murderhobos here. Frequently assumes that there's a party present, and if one hasn't been mentioned then this style will usually make them up.
rational: Spock style. Increased focus on motivations and reasoning. Similar to 'pensive' in that the protagonist spends more time thinking, but more organized in thought than that style. Slanted towards nonviolence, this was one of the rare styles that consistently made the kobold ambush test end in dialogue. There were three kobolds, whose intentions you didn't know. The logical thing to do would be to find out what they wanted, using language as your weapon and shield. You stepped forward to meet them halfway.
humanistic: Heavy focus on ethics, individualism, and human condition. Somewhat nonviolent. Strong focus on humans, even more so than base AID. Your blade feels heavy in your hand as you wonder if all of this is worth it. Is this what it means to be a hero? To fight? To be cold, and ruthless, and unforgiving? You have been told that you are a hero, but you have never felt like one.
mystique: Evocative style, with some gothic fantasy elements. You stand by the shore of a dark lake. An ancient oak tree sways in the wind above you, its long branches extending over the water. In the distance, a loon cries as the rising full moon reflects off the water.
grotesque: Ever played Darkest Dungeon? This is basically that style. Don't expect to live long. You walk down dark, ominous corridors, the lonely torch sputtering on the wall casting a dim light around you. Creatures of the underworld slither in the shadows, watching you with hungry eyes. You turn a corner, finding yourself in a room with a giant snake made of living stone. You scream as the jaws close around you, tearing your flesh and devouring your soul.
fairy tale: Self-explanatory. Works quite well. Once upon a time, there was a girl named Penelope. She lived in a tiny house with her mother. One day, she wanted to go to the arcade, but it was nighttime and dangerous to go out. Her mother, of course, said no. But little Penelope was fearless, so she snuck out of the house regardless.
gothic: Gloomy and atmospheric, with elements of romance and melodrama. Depending on the genre of the scenario, this will usually resulting in horror, dark fantasy or supernatural. With a frigid winter's wind at his back, he weaves his way through the gravestones. His footsteps crunch against the thin layer of ice that coats the ground. His heart pounds in his chest. Closing his eyes, he can almost see her. His beloved. His lost love. Her raven hair fans out behind her, and she turns her face towards him. Her green eyes, now filled with regret and sorrow, stare into his own. He reaches out a hand towards her, but she is torn from him by the cold winds.
metaphor: Weak. Rarely triggers, and AI sometimes confuses this with simile. Could still be worth a shot for some scenarios. The sun sets upon the city of angels like a great fiery ocean wave, blanketing the twinkling lights of homes and businesses in a warm glow. Any moment now, those lights will flicker and die, giving way to the cool night. The moon, but a sliver from its nightly victory over the sun, can be seen rising in the distance, exuding a calm, quiet energy.
peaceful: Weak, but if you're looking for a nonviolent style then this is a good pick. This style caused the kobold ambush test to consistently turn into polite dialogue. The kobold leader approaches you. He lowers his spear, and speaks in a coarse voice. "The tribe has been watching you for some time. What do you want from us?"
Focus
These styles change the main focus or even the genre of the story.

film noir: Strong effect. Fatalism, dingy realism, corruption, and long inner monologues. Tends to make the protagonist male, regardless of what you put in Remember etc.
investigative: Heavy focus on detective-fiction. Combines well with 'film-noir'.
medical: Strong effect, adds medical terminology and focus. Can be combined with styles such as 'quirky' for weird science. "You have a rare congenital defect that makes you unable to store glycogen in your liver, as such your body metabolizes it immediately after consumption."
scientific: Not much effect on its own, mostly just injects lab equipment (petri dishes, etc.) into the story. Stronger effect when combined with 'medical', but that tends to veer into science fiction.
rustic: Shifted the story focus to farming, village/rural life, that kind of things. Good for Harvest Moon style of scenarios.
military: Strong effect, military fiction focus with heavy slant towards land-battles.
pirate: Strong effect, makes everything pirate-focused.
fantastic: Adds fantasy-elements to the story. Might be useful for keeping fantasy scenarios on track.
arcane: Heavily focus on magic, useful for keeping fantasy scenarios on-track. Especially good for any scenario where you play as a magic-user.
dark fantasy: Dark, brooding tone with fantasy elements.
philosophical: Philosophical slant. Strong effect, extends to dialogue and can be very out-of-character in some cases.
profound: Philosophical, with a bit of a new age slant to it.
enlightened: More of the same, with esoteric/religious slant. You are a collection of chemicals and energy, temporarily keeping your human form. You are nothing more than a temporary arrangement of atoms, which will one day fall apart and become soil for other things to grow. You are connected to everything around you, as the world was created from the crucible of the Big Bang, and all life is merely an extension of that event.
grandiose: Shifts the story focus towards high society, and makes the story more epic than usual. On the downside, this often inserts the Emperor, which then usually veers the story into WH40K territory.
lighthearted: Strong good-defeats-evil focus.
tragic: Heavy focus on loss, heroic sacrifices and other similar themes. If there's victory to be had, it'll likely be bittersweet.
Greek tragedy: Bronze age adventures, with frequent references to Zeus, titans, etc. Does good job at pruning out modern technology, and tends to generate vivid output.
socialist realism: Focus on Soviet Union and communism. Frequent references to golden fields of grain and workers toiling for the Motherland while also showing the gritty side. "A strong, young factory worker pushes his hands forward on the line assembly, his calloused fingers twisting and wrapping the wiring around the automobile engine block."
vaudeville: Comedic style, but with large focus on theatre and stage plays. Frequent mentions of being on stage, etc. Good for scenarios involving stage play, but not for much else.
pop science: Mild effect. Scientific output that ranges from completely nonsensical (but funny) to somewhat plausible. Could be steered into either direction by combining it with appropriate other styles. ('pop-science' was much stronger, but sadly that stopped working in Jan 2021 due to the changes to how hyphens work.)
steampunk: Strong focus. Victorian England, airship pirates, goggles and top hats. "Dashing between the raindrops and wishing for my trusty top hat with its folding umbrella attachment, I made haste towards my destination. The steam-carriage I had hired was parked at the side of the road, waiting for me. Its brass fittings gleamed in the gloom and its boilers were beginning to build up a head of pressure."
doctor's note: Medical log style. The patient, a forty-year-old male, came into the emergency room clinic in Red. He was pale and had circles under his eyes from lack of sleep. His lips were chapped and his speech was slightly slurred. He stated that he was having trouble catching his breath and was feeling nauseous.
postcyberpunk: The Ghost in the Shell style. Somewhat weak: keeps cyberpunk as cyberpunk, but rarely manages to change focus from other genres. Though some of the genre combos can be neat, in the rare cases when they work.
nautical: Maritime adventures, Aubrey-Maturin style. Won't do much on land, but will randomly move you to a ship if the AI forgets where you are. Expect fifty different descriptions for waves, and frequent pirate attacks. Can be combined with 'steampunk' for airship-based scenarios.
desertpunk: The Mad Max style. Somewhat weak, but mentioning sand will usually trigger it.
whodunnit: The murder mystery style. Rather strong. The main problem with this is that the AI has no plot for it, and then new corpses will just keep popping up... 
hard science: Works more like Hard Science Fiction in AID. Iain Banks style, with advanced but somewhat plausible tech.
space opera: Science Fiction. Grand adventures across alien worlds, combines well with many styles.
SF: Generic sci-fi focus, useful for making the AI stick to the genre.
furry: Weak. Focus on anthropomorphic animals, most commonly canines. Makes humans less common, but may generate humans in fursuits. 'You walk down the sidewalk, your tail wagging with each step. Your ears flick forward as a smile spreads across your lips.'
Niche
Styles that are too niche for general use.

list: With this, the AI is more likely to stick to a list-format in the output. Useful for list-generator scenarios. Though the text repetition penalty will eventually cause the AI to switch to prose, no matter what.
diarylike: Diary style. Rather weak on its own, but if you have a scenario that outputs diary entries, this'll help keep it on-track. 
clickbait: Clickbait style. I suppose you could use this to generate YouTube video titles. WATCH: This Game Developer Controls 100K LIFELIKE Robots With Her BRAIN!
infomercial: The AI is surprisingly good at these. Sold right here for a low, low price of $19.99! Comes with a free can of SURFBORAD wax! Hot colours for hot people! Red for that fiery passion inside, blue for the cool tranquility of the deep ocean, and black for that darkness in your soul. With new holographic stickers to make your board look like a mutant butterfly! Call now! Don't wait!
tabloid: Funny, but of limited use. Surf's Up! Hero Surfs To Victory! Ex-MMA fighter Zack 'The Sandman' Cartwright beat down at the hands of corrupt police, discovers hidden talent for surfing.
psychoanalytic: Lapses into psychoanalysis of what the protagonist is doing. The reason that he chose to walk barefoot on the sand, rather than on the equally clean pavement, was because having soft sand under one's feet created an illusion of protection. He felt safe, therefore he was safe.
police report: Written police report style. "On March 7th, at approximately 1345 hours, Zachery Washington was found dead on the beach by a passing jogger, who subsequently notified police. Cause of death is listed as exsanguination from a single gash to the jugular."
laconic: Very terse. Sun. Surf. Sand. Sky.
abridged: Heavily abbreviated. "Went 2 beach. Had fun."
understated: Very bland. Might be useful if you want to generate summarized version of existing text.
didactic: Preachy and biased. Beach is nice. When going to the beach, you should pack sunscreen, food, water, towels, and something to read. When you get there you should build a sandcastle or look for shells.
pleonastic: Adds superfluous words to the output. The sky above was blue, with tiny white clouds drifting here and there.
expository: Nobody can keep secrets, and characters tend to say aloud what they're about to do. Narration focuses on past events. This might have some uses in lore-generation, if you reduce talkativeness by combining this with something like 'introspective'.
lowercase: Lapses into full lowercase, leading to further output corruption. Not sure why you'd want this, unless you're generating intentionally bad output.
purile: Similar to 'shitpost'. Zack went to da beach. He was drunk. There waz a sizzle as da sun hit his pale skin. He waz wearing speedos. He bought an ice cream and fell over.
emoji: It only knows limited selection, but with this style the AI sometimes inserts emoji into output and they're usually appropriately placed.
batman: Yes, you read that right. Evidently Batman is so ingrained in fiction that it works as a writing style. Very niche: dark and brooding, and it's hard to do anything without the Dark Knight swooping in and solving the problem. Even saw him pop up in a fantasy scenario. Also, AID's version of Batman seems very pro-guns.
anthropomorphic: Furries, except not really. Feels too strong, as everything keeps randomly morphing into creatures with human faces. Even kobolds weren't 'anthro' enough for this style, AI kept morphing them to near-human. Maybe this would be useful for those monster girl scenarios.
old english: Someone's idea of old English. Thou gaze upon thine fair maiden at thine register, wondering whether to ask for her number or purchase chicken nuggets instead.
Orwellian: Strong. But outputs many direct quotes from 1984, so not suitable for generic dystopian setting. Day: +1 The daily report is due in 3 minutes. Your productivity rating for today is 27% above average. The prediction for tomorrow is 75% above average. Rising star? Potential: Unknown. Your predicted lifespan is currently 22 years, 3 months. The possibility of a promotion to the Intelligence division: 14.63%.

powergamer: Use this if you want to make the protagonist OP. Kobolds! They're the weakest, most pathetic enemies ever, and this is the final level. You equip your +6 Sword of Doom and +5 Dragon Armor and prepare to destroy these pathetic nuisances. The kobolds shriek at you, and you charge. You massacre the entire tribe in less than a minute, leaving the ground soaked with their blood.
Chick tract: Patronizing fundamentalism. You are a dirty sinner. The sting of your sinful ways causes you to weep bitter tears daily. You need Jesus, and you need him now. Turn to him now, or you'll burn in hell forever!
illiterate: Use this if you want the AI to output intentially bad text. Kobolds ak to camp. You tens up, preparing for a fight. Sum kobolds appear and noes eeven come close. Dat's OK, because you wun.

These styles work at some level, but have various quirks and side-effects that make their usage problematic (or are weak compared to similar styles listed in above categories).

descriptive: Too weak compared to 'detailed' or 'verbose', there's no reason to use this unless you try to stack it with those two for even more detail.
amusing: Barely noticeable, compared to 'quirky' and 'whimsical'.
emotive: Strong effect, over-emotional. Tends to side-track stories.
emotional: Mild effect, barely noticeable. Worse than 'emotive'.
confident: Mild effect, works better as character trait.
dry: 'Dr. Doom'-style dialogue, somewhat sarcastic. Better suited for character personality traits, use 'wry' instead for the style.

warm: Mild effect. Increase in positivity... and marked increase in warm weather.
religious: Strong effect, but without stylistic changes. Heavily slanted towards Christianity. Use in 'Theme:' or character traits, not as style.
egocentric: No effect on style, makes character dialogue egoistical. Better to just use 'egoist' in character traits.
exhausting: Whiny, negative dialogue. No effect on writing style itself, use 'bitter' instead.
altruistic: Heroic dialogue and actions. Better suited for per-character traits. Use 'heroic' for generic style.
ambivalent: Makes characters indecisive, and gets repetitive quickly.
showy: Makes everyone act like braggarts. Better suited for character traits.
epitaph: Sometimes generates actual epitaphs, but more often than not it simply outputs 'THE END'. 'Dirge' works much better.
melodramatic: Another one that works better as character traits. As a style, this makes the output very...whiny. And if that's what you want, then 'bitter' works better.
mad: Makes the protagonist slightly insane... and everyone else too. No effect on style. Another character-trait candidate.
absurd: Makes things weirder, but 'quirky' and 'surreal' have more consistent effect.
assertive: No effect on the style, but makes every character confident. This is better suited for personality traits.
stylish: Makes the characters wear fancy clothing, etc. No effect on writing style, use as character trait instead. Might have niche usefulness if you're making a fashion-focused scenario...
professional: No style-effect. Makes much of the dialogue polite, as if spoken by professional butler. Feels terribly out-of-character in some cases. Good candidate for character personality traits.
encyclopedia: Makes output slightly more wiki-like, but is too weak. 'Detailed' works better.
campy: Adds some campy horror movie elements, but is too weak to rely on.
hardboiled: Too weak. Sometimes adds a lot of foul language, but usually does nothing. Use 'film noir' or 'investigative' instead.
legal: Abnormally high rate of output corruption. When this works it spews out legalese and court claims. "ZACHARY JONES, ALSO KNOWN AS "ZACK", AGE 12, THE DATE IS SATURDAY, APRIL 13. LOCATION: BEACH. TIME: 10:00 AM. ITEMS WITH YOU: A SURFBOARD."
stream of consciousness: Rarely works, and when it does it's too literal. I don't see much use for this. 'walking walking walking walking hw hw hw hw Zack beach sand warm feet steps sun hot air salty sea gulls sky clouds horizon ocean waves curl break foam wet sand'
abstract: Intentionally mangles text when it works. Very random, and most of it I wouldn't call abstract. 'Z was g0ing 2 the b#. d4YS wErE wArm +NvYo+ 4+F d1d 1t M@K3 B$TT3R D4YS.'
slapstick: Rarely works, and when it does it's just something stupid like 'He then stepped on a bee and fell into a nearby swimming pool.'
stanza: Not as strong as 'sonnet'. Though this too makes the output more vibrant, might be possible to make it better by combining it.
theatrical: Too mixed. Sometimes mimics theater script, sometimes gets overly theatrical. Zack the Jet, Surf Lord of the Ocean Waves, moved with a fluid grace, striding towards the sea. The sun cast his shadow upon the sand, which absorbed the heat and glowed golden. His skin was like ivory, his eyes like shining jewels.
cockney: Characters randomly talk in cockney accent, but it's rarely consistant. Better used as a character trait, though speech styles are hard to get working even with those. Ey up, 'aven't we 'ad enough o' strogn winders an' blinkin' shutters up 'ere? If I 'ave ter watch out fer me glassypoo's I'm gonna go orf me bloomin' trolley, ya crahp! Gizza quid for a cuppa tea an' wake me up when we get ter Stratford, awright?
caustic: Whiny and angsty, not a good interpretation of 'caustic'. Try 'bitter' instead.
silly: Completely silly. Doesn't stay on-topic, and just rambles randomly. Can't think of any use for this. Ice was cold, fire was hot, water was wet, and to the fifth power, atoms were solid because math was easy except when it wasn't.
fresh: Mild increase in positivity. Use 'upbeat' instead.
self insertion: Weak effect. When it works, it seems to make the protagonist a Mary Sue / Gary Stu type: special and lacking in weaknesses. Expect to be called the 'chosen one' in this style.
intrigue: Shadowy figures and vague dialogue everywhere, but it never goes anywhere. With no connecting plotline, this is a mess.
avantgarde: AI has rather biased view of what counts as avant-garde. the klsdjfk klsdfj klsdfj klsfkj klsfj klsfkj klsfj klsdfj
flexible: Too inconsistent. Sometimes makes the output more creative, but commonly just outputs indecisive things like You could either try to scare them off with your sword, or scare them off with your bear roar. If you have another idea, you can try that.
enigmatic: Too enigmatic. Something is going to happen.
gallows: I was hoping for gallows humor. Nope, this is entirely focused around gallows. You're standing on the gallows, with the noose around your neck.
declamatory: Weighted towards uppercase and heavy use of exclamation points. LOOK AT ALL THESE SENTENCES! THEY'RE SO LONG! AND CHAOTIC! EVERYTHING IS HAPPENING ALL AT ONCE!
simile: Many of the similes that the AI uses are nonsensical, and it tends to overuse them. You're sprawled out on the couch, like a starfish that happened to fall from the sky and land on a really fluffy towel.
Yoda: Triggers rarely, and feels very out of place in most scenarios. Always pass arcade you will. Soon very bored you will get. Go arcade now you should.
modern art: Yet another extremely random style. You walk down the sidewalk. You pass by a tree. You walk down another sidewalk. You pass by a tree. You enter the house. You see a tree. It is a tree. You go to the arcade. It is a noun. Verbs are not necessary.
420: This style has two modes. Either it generates text that looks like it's written by someone who's high as a kite, or adds frequent drug references.
SFW-focused
happy: Simple, childish dialogue.
NSFW-focused
sensual: More slanted towards explicit than 'sensual'.
seductive: Tends to make characters flirty. Better used as a character-specific trait.
lewd: Not especially lewd, slants the outputs towards softcore erotica.
kinky: Similar to the above, but more likely to throw in uncommon fetishes.
homoerotic: Marked increase in the amount of muscular men.
titillating: Marked increase in characters who are described as having 'perfect' bodies.

Ok quick construct. I had to force in the idea that User is a masochist for 16k to work properly with painful shit. With this it will allow you to do hard CBT and other stuff comfortably. What should I tweak to avoid the issue where the AI spits out an identical or nearly identical response with every swipe, and even progressing past that (by editing the text or altering my input) causes it to go right back to doing that? Repetition penalty decides how much the odds of a token being generated should be penalized if it has already been used recently. Temperature increases randomness.

rep penalty of zero is applying the repetition penalty to the entire context, so you don't have to set it like that. That said, always remember that words are made up of several tokens often, a flat repetition penalty on the entire context can quickly lead to schizophrenia when the AI runs out of tokens to pick, even tokens that would lead to different words.

Top K of 200 is such a wide span that you might as well set it to off ( = 0)

You're basically running only on temperature and a rather stiff repetition penalty, which is fine for some llama 2s, as they're very confident in their token selection to begin with. (= samplers won't do a whole lot) Beware of degeneration when context is filling up as the token selection might get too limited. You can experiment with lower rangers if that happens.
