A Special Addition to "They Hide Behind Things We Know"

You are on the phone with Natalie, one of the co-captains of your cheerleading squad. You only just joined the team after a near perfect tryout several weeks into the school year, and you have not hidden the fact that you look up to Natalie more than anyone else.

Natalie has been co-captain for the last year and is great at what she does, so much so that out of all the girls, she had a way of stealing attention even from the acrobats. She was strong, but she was welcoming, helpful and more encouraging than anything else.

Some of the girls looked down on the other girls, especially the new girls. Natalie did not stand for that. They could not get away with that as long as she was around.

You try to talk to Natalie as often as you can for advice, instructions, or just to hear her voice. The other girls would make fun of you for it if they knew. They would say you had a girl crush or more. It had nothing to do with that at all. In a few short weeks, Natalie probably was already the best big sister, or friend, you've ever had.

"Hold on," Natalie says. "I got a message."

Your phone face flashes at you.

"Oh, wait," you say. "So do I."
