Spooky Heavenly Action at a Distance (SHAD)

Required definitions:

Divination

Divination is the process through which the mind of beings are affected by the Heavenly Realm (HR). To achieve this, the Personal Concept (PC) of the being is used as a conduit through which entities in the HR can have a variety of effects.
Non-exhaustive list of effects that can be accomplished through pure divination:

  • Visions
  • Dreams
  • Intrusive thoughts
  • Stressful thoughts
  • Subconscious thoughts
Glyph

A glyph encodes instructions for processes acting in the Vitium field, and require Vitubium and specific shapes in their fabrication. More complex glyphs are required for more complex processes.

Transubstantion

Transubstantiation is the process by which a heavenly concept can be fully embodied by a physical object.
Examples of transubstantiation:

  • A /here/chuuba's body is a transubstantiation of its concept as a HR entity
  • A table can become a transubstantiation of the concept of tables through rituals
  • The remains of people related through family ties can become a transubstantiation of the concept of kin for this group

Fundamental Idea

By providing the right information to a magic construct, subtle effects can be applied to groups of people by exploiting the innate divination abilities of all humans.

The following components are needed to make use of SHAD:

  • A targeting glyph
  • A spell glyph

Targeting glyph

The targeting glyph's task is to relay the effects of the spell to the targets. To do so, identification data (ID) is required. The target must have a connection to the HR, so it must either contain chuubanite or have a PC.

Examples of ID-target pairs:

  • A sample of chuubanite of a certain type allows the targeting of said chuubanite type
  • A transubstantiation of a population's concept allows the targeting of said population

The ID must be able to point out the target amongst the ocean of concepts of the HR without ambiguity.

Spell glyph

The spell glyph determines the effect of the SHAD on the target once it has been carried by the targeting glyph.
If a PC is used as a target, the effects of the spell are limited to those that may be caused by divination.

Initial setup

The targeting glyph must be supplied with both chuubanite, and the ID source that will be used by the SHAD. A larger glyph will improve its targeting capabilities, and its abilities to affect multiple separate beings at once.

The spell glyph or glyphs must be activated while inside the targeting glyph.

Maintenance

Both the targeting glyph and the spell glyph must be maintained and kept active for the duration of the SHAD. The glyphs will continuously consume magical energy as they do their work, proportional to the amount of targets. Decreasing the amount of energy supplied to the targeting glyph will reduce the amplitude of the SHAD's effect.

Should the spell glyph be rendered inactive, the SHAD will stop.
