First Day Jitters AKA Sally's 2nd year relationship chart with some anecdotes
Class 2-D:
Sally stares at the roster and feels a pit in her stomach. Looking over to the 2-E roster that pit fills with frustration.
"It's alright Sally, Noah will come see you at lunch every day, and we'll keep up our usual study sessions!" he says with a cheerful, bright smile as he looks up at her.
"Ok. Why didn't you get brought over to 2-D?! That makes everything so much easier and it's one seat taken by someone I know is a good person!" she says with a pout.
Noah stealthily holds her hand for a few moments: "God decided Noah needed a greater trial. It doesn't mean Noah will have less time for you, Noah trusts you to be your best self around those who may have misconceptions about you"
Sally nods as she watches Noah get settled in his new classroom. Lunch couldn't come soon enough.
She is wary of the new people, as she knows much of the student body buys into the rumors that have floated around about her and Noah. That's not even mentioning the Doki Doki Mystery/Vigilante club she offers her firearms to and her involvement with Chris's Vigilante quest for Desolator. As a rule for those that were not in 1-D, she will be very guarded with attempts to be polite. It's paranoia, not hate driving this behavior since any of her classmates could be CIA infiltrators coming to fuck her over.
Atsushi Orochi
Sally trusts Orochi after revealing her secret to her last year and finding some common ground given the other girl's deadly quirk. She admires Orochi's ability to endure so much psychological damage and still keep herself together, and wants to be there for Orochi when she needs a friend to help sort out of business or to just talk through something.
Christopher Cain
Someone she trusts, but wouldn't count as a friend. He's not someone she would voluntarily hang out with since she sees herself as a mental weight to him if she were to stick around him without being told that she was needed. Regardless, their goals are still aligned and she is willing to swallow her pride and get extra academic help from him when Noah can't explain something to her in a way she can understand.
TLDR: She treats him like one would a senior coworker.
Hailey, Faith, Edith, Maxine, and Minerva
Sally and the Koreans are not friends, and Sally does not bother anything but the barest pleasantries with the two of them and their clique. They flaunt how spoiled they are too much for Sally to not feel angry just being in the vicinity of people so far up their asses that they can't see how easy they have it. She's trying to make a better impression on others, so she's upgrading from openly aggressive toward them to passive-aggressive politeness.
Kyoda Hiro
"....So I want you at least try it and report back to me. Make sure to follow the dosage and report any side effects, even minor ones" the injured boy says to Sally as he hands her a sealed pack of chewable pills.
"I'm not taking happy pills" she says in her best attempt to keep venom out of her voice.
"Their not anti-anxiety pills: they promote bone density and recovery. Whenever you try shooting larger bullets you risk injuring your limbs, right?"
Sally looks at the pills and stuffs them into the pocket of her uniform jacket: "I'm having Tame chemically analyze one to make sure, just... just so you know" she says with a guilty look away from the boy.
Hiro sighs: "You really should take something for your anxiety. I can't force you but I can say it would help with your situation"
Sally's eyes sharpen as she stares him down. Hiro raises his hands to try and appear like a non-threat.
"The rumors about you and Noah, I mean. That your some kind of lesbian bodyguard to him. Sorry if that's..."
"It's fine" Sally says as he tries to find the words to avoid a near-miss, the gun nun looking down at the floor with a look of shame.
"I've been seen as a danger to kids at school since I was 4. It doesn't hurt anymore and Noah isn't being hurt by it"
She turns her back to him, unable to bring herself to fully apologize for or fully justify her outburst.
Sally has a hard time facing Hiro since he's living proof of someone she could have saved if she had taken her shot and tried to defend the school last year. She prays for him a lot since he's suffered so much, but can't fully express sympathy and break through that emotional wall because it means admitting that she was stupid for listening to Chris.
TLDR: She's distant and awkward around him because of perceived responsibility for some of his past injuries.
Kaga
He's solidly an acquaintance of hers even after their internship with Popsy. She doesn't like people who bellyache as much as he does but knows he's not a bad guy.
Chihiro
Sally shares a quiet moment with Chihiro in the back of the classroom, Her shoulders drooping. Her arm was still technically healing from blasting Sandatsu when he attacked them and Chihiro had found some kind of power that Sally had never seen in her before.
"...Orochi wanted to kill him. I would have helped if my arm wasn't busted"
Chihiro is silent as if working through her feelings on the matter.
"Someone will get him Sensei, hopefully us. He's our youkai to exorcise"
Chihiro looks toward the gun nun: "Have you ever heard of an Amanojaku?"
Sally tilts her head: "Is that a youkai?"
"It kills a person and wears its skin, pretending to be the victim. It brings destruction and disaster and revels in the act"
"Yeah, so it's evil. It needs to be hunted down and killed"
Chihiro keeps staring at Sally: "If you kill the skin he wears, you kill whatever first put it on"
The two girls sit in silence as Sally racks her brain at the wordplay used. She felt like she failed a test, but the stoic swordswoman simply seemed to contain whatever disappointment she might feel beneath her perfectly stoic mask. Sally attempts to imitate her mannerisms with significant discomfort. She doesn't hold her stoicism for long. She had been angry more than happy these days, between having to live in a camera-infested dorm and seeing her closest friends and Hoge get attacked. It made her blood boil thinking about letting herself get dragged around and beat on. One of the new kids, a nerdy-looking American passed by and quickly averted his gaze from Sally as she scowls and growls with her eyes closed in contrast to her sword Sensei's outward serenity.
She sees Chihiro as having far more experience and wisdom than her because she carries the guilt of killing more than she does, and has done so for much longer. Even if she realizes that all of her advice might not be good, she's one of the only people who can empathize with Sally. She'd keep up her Kendo practice if possible, likely with lessons during day trips to the dojo on weekends. Chihiro is a Sensei to Sally, and she tries very hard to be a worthy student.
Inigo
He's graduated from a friendly fire magnet to someone she begrudgingly trusts. He still tests her patience a lot and it would take a lot of prodding to get her to use his name and "friend" in the same sentence, but she realizes he has more power than her to right wrongs and is trying to help as best he can. He's still never her choice for someone to hang out with casually, but he seems to "get" Sally enough to worm his way into her business when he wants to.
TLDR: She's warming up to him, and might even be nice to him every now and again.
Hoge
Hoge looks over Sally's uniform with a downward glare. The height difference always made Sally feel even more defensive for being shorter, and she knew Hoge reveled in having anything over her. She met her glare with crossed arms and a face of cold fury. If there was anyone she'd wished got put in a different class, It was Nyoro Hoge.
"[May I check your bag, McCathy-san?]" Hoge says with an outstretched hand.
"[No, your not class rep anymore]" Sally says back, not intimidated.
"[We have yet to elect a new one. Somebody has to keep you in check]"
Sally clutches her bag close, letting the sound of a round getting loaded in her arm ring through the classroom: "[Your move, creep]"
"[What do you think I have? Makeup? Fireworks? Porn?]"
"[No, yes, and no]"
"Go eat shit" she says, switching over to Japanese and taking her seat with a look of defiance. Hoge's form blurs and her fingers twitch, but Sally doesn't feel reprisal for the act. Yet.
Hoge and Sally share only their sex and gender: For almost everything else they are diametrically opposed to the point where they will take an opposite position for the sake of opposition. Even though Sally doesn't trust her, she will work with Hoge's friends and even the girl herself if it aligns with her feelings and goals. Sally reluctantly acknowledges Hoge's academic prowess over her but would never admit that she can fight, aim, or look better than herself.
TLDR: They are Frenemies who better themselves by wanting to prove their worldview and habits are the best.
Runt
Sally had heard of Runt before, mostly through the many rumors about 1-F's strange students. She never expected to have to see that most of what she heard was sadly true. Even if he seems dumb as a brick, and would probably eat a brick if asked, she has to admit a part of him just screams "based" given he says the most moronic things with complete sincerity. If she agreed with him on something, she'd stand up for him and try to convince/threaten people into not bullying him.
Yui
Sally sees a lot of herself in Yui and does her best to not be a pain in the ass for her. She admires how well she handles a harder childhood than she had but doesn't think she needs to be burdened with knowing Sally's secret yet. She'd call herself a friend of Yui's given their shared experience as interns under Popsy, enough that Sally would stick her neck out to defend her and help her out if she was sought out for it.
Bobby
Sally's only real problem with Bobby is the company he keeps: how he puts up with dating a Korean brat is beyond her. Otherwise, she's friendly toward him, especially on the topic of guns and the difficulties of adapting to Japan. They are not very close, and Sally doesn't plan on actively pursuing a deeper friendship for fear of people interpreting it as her getting bored of Noah.
Kaylee
Her dormmate, and one she has a hard time not feeling inadequate next to. Even if she has gun arms that can take down helicopters, Kaylee is a walking, flying tank that can make devastating energy attacks from seemingly nothing and can go toe-to-toe with Sandy... at least back during the tournament. Her physique is a Greek statue with spiky hair and she's taller than all the boys in class. She even has a weird British accent that makes her Japanese somewhat slightly more difficult to understand. Sally is only somewhat afraid of the girl though, as she's never shown any ill will towards her and seems to be pleasant to be around at least. Sally tries to be friendly, especially considering their roommates and need to share space.
Junichi
Sally has worked with him as a vigilante and doesn't like his attitude. He comes off to her like an edgy know-it-all who likes to smugly explain why his hopeless view of the world is right and anything else is the belief of a moron. She knows his type from home in the form of the edgy kids at school who refused to go to church when they hit their tweens and has a hard time not speaking her mind whenever he can't keep his mouth shut. At the same time, when it comes to conspiracy theories and government distrust she is with him.
TLDR: She is either a solemn temporary ally of his or annoyed at him if he lets his edginess air out too much.
Hifumi
Sally sits in her seat, gripping the bridge of her nose at the clusterfuck of an election that she witnessed. A fucking Lizard is what people voted for?! At least it wasn't Inigo, a Korean, or another year of Hoge. She didn't need any more stress to balance in her life, as much as the power of Class Rep seemed appealing at a glance. She sees the boy approach her as she was heading for the door after the bell rang.
"McCathy-San, I wanted to talk about your near-missing against people who annoy you" Hifumi says with a formal tone that sounded like a chivalrous knight to her.
"I don't know what you're talking about, Class Rep" Sally says with a strong look, testing his mettle and venting some of her first-day frustrations.
"Everyone knows you do it, especially to the Korean Clique and Inigo" Hifumi says, not backing down.
"All I'm asking you to do is stop. Whether or not you apologize is your choice. We're not starting with a great reputation and being petty about whatever drama you and them have isn't going to help anything"
Sally gives him a glare of resistance: "Just cause you're dating one of them doesn't mean the whole class has to be nice to them" she says quietly.
"Why does it matter what the rest of the school thinks of us anyway? All we have to do is focus on our classes and projects and we can all pass"
"Because were have a class below us that might seek guidance from their seniors: I know your culture is different but I'm expecting you to be a Senpai when the time comes. I'm told you and Rosethorn talked about it already" Hifumi says, matching her hushed tone as they walk through the school's halls.
"Yeah... I get it" Sally says with a begrudging sigh.
"But until you get those 5 to behave like they are not God's gift to the school and show some humility I'm not backing down"
"But... if one of the Freshman needs help I'll do what I can, I promise on my faith"
Hifumi places a hand over his eyes for a moment: "Just don't make things worse: the last thing we need is a grudge boiling over and hurting someone who isn't involved"
Sally was never really close with Hifumi and associates him with being one of the Korean's boy toys. It doesn't help he's her new class rep, a position that comes with the need to manage her. Hifumi will find Sally is cold and resistant to her affairs being pried into and would need a lot of convincing to change her mind. It's not impossible for the two of them can get along, just a long and rough road given Sally's current state of mind.
Ian
A person she is neutral on, still fighting the part of her that thinks all glowies are a threat to everyone around them with the fact that she's been given evidence that he is telling the truth about not being here to arrest them. By no means is she comfortable enough to casually hang out with him, but if asked to help in an operation or investigation she would oblige if only for a further chance at seeing him work and a chance to earn some favors. There is a small part of her that feels bad for being so mean to him that she keeps very deep down.
Tame
One of her best friends, and someone she trusts deeply. They usually hang out and study together, Sally offering what she can to help Tame's already superb academics. Sally tries to keep Tame away from her vigilante work and personal problems, but the latter is something she's too smart to not find and too kind to not try and help her with. She wants to try and set her up with a boyfriend as a way of saying thanks, doing something she sees as distinctly human for the girl who is very easy to dismiss as non-human.
Deckard
Sally doesn't know him all that well, and while repulsed by his need to be trendy, should his geeky side become known to Sally he'd find a fellow PC gamer and TF2 addict who is desperate for someone in her timezone to play games with. It helps that he's American and can trash talk in her native tongue, even if he reminds her a lot of the urbanite boys who always backed away from her when they heard about her quirk or got scared by accidental gunshots.
Rob
Another American Sally can empathize more with, but his quirk is a lot to get over even for someone like Sally who's not bothered by getting dirty. His sincerity and difficulties adapting to Japan make him a prime candidate for being a casual friends, even if her deeper traumas are something she doesn't want to burden him with. She wants to be nice to him and would make a point of not coming off like that living weapon a lot of her classmates in the USA ended up seeing her as.
Shiketsu Teachers and Staff
The only teacher Sally trusts with anything personal is Rosethorn since she has consistently been there for her and helped make her feel less terrible about her situation. In general, she tries to keep a distance from her teachers while still trying to be polite. She's still rude by Japanese standards, but ultimately she's doing her best to not make enemies she doesn't need to at the school. Sally still needs to study her ass off just to keep up, so her teachers would at least see her putting in a lot of effort to understand the material she needs to.
Karaburan
Sally sits in the principal's office with a downcast expression, hoping that she doesn't have to choose between a shootout or extradition. The one-armed woman enters and smiles at the girl as she sits down in her comfy chair.
"McCathy-San, I wanted to congratulate you"
"...Thank you?" Sally says, confused.
The woman continues: "I know that you're doing your best and it shows in a good way. I wanted to ask if you'd like me to refer you to a psychologist or therapist-"
"No" Sally says flatly, interrupting her.
Anzu's eyes harden. She heard Sally was resistant to medications and it seemed her paranoia ran deeper than she thought.
"Even pro heroes need someone to talk to about the harrowing aspects of their work, and I can guarantee that it will all be confidential"
"Nothing's confidential: the CIA uses telepathy quirks to screen for credible threats and enemies of the state. We both know that my situation might warrant that kind of attention" Sally says in a cold, angry voice.
Sally watches as Anzu considers her next words carefully, looking down at her.
"[McCathy, your situation relies on you simply keeping up to the standards of Shiketsu. You can do that and I'd release you from your probation if I had the power had you not had so many issues with vigilantism. Plus conspiracy theories will only make you feel more cornered]"
"[I know you're more than an animal to be hunted into a corner. In the unlikely chance there's a conspiracy to make you fail, as you've stated before, then the best thing you can do is not let them corner you and not charge into the traps they are setting]"
The girl looks up at her principal. The way she was talking sounded like Inigo when he was trying to relay a hidden message, but what that was eluded Sally.
"[And what the hell is a happy pill or a talk with some shrink going to do help me with? Denying reality?"
"[I'll keep studying, I'll keep training, I'll keep patrolling, and I'll keep living in the real world]"
Anzu closes her eyes and crosses her legs after sitting back down: "[Reality isn't a 2d image. The complete picture changes its meaning depending on where you look]"
"[Then I guess we see the picture from at opposite ends]" Sally mumbles
The two stare each other down, and for a moment Sally can see a flicker of kindness hidden behind the woman's authoritative look.
"[If anything, I see it from the top, while your on the right side]"
"[Don't stray from it and your older self will thank you for it. There are graveyards full of villains and vigilantes who chose to walk to a path corpses over following procedure]"
Sally is intimidated by Karaburan, the woman who can end her quest for redemption with a phone call. She is polite and "calm"(Biting her tongue) when speaking with her. There is a part of her that takes her injury to mean she's not to be messed with: All the guys who lost legs or arms to North America's Warlord Era in her town were always the most competent with guns, knives, quirks, or explosives.
Ryusei Sugeiama(Smokin' Sexy)
To her, he's a smelly, scruffy-looking guy who reminds her of her dad but Japanese. She trusts him a bit since he’s Popsy’s friend, and Popsy is someone she trusts a lot. She’d do her best at his lessons, even if it feels wrong to her to learn Kendo from someone other than Chihiro. Cigarette smoke doesn’t bother her all that much and would be calming to her since it smells like more acrid gunsmoke.
Aiko Aimi(Rosethorn)
Sally is glad Rosethorn is sticking with her role as homeroom teacher. Rosethron is the only teacher she truly trusts and her encouragement is a major part of why Sally hasn't cracked yet. She's sure that Rosethron knows her secret, and still can find the understanding to treat her as a student to be helped rather than a heinous murderer. Rosethorn would be able to get Sally to talk about stuff she doesn't want to reveal since the student believes that her teacher will cover for her.
Riku Washizawa(Skycarver)
She feels bad he got stuck with 1-F, but it got him a bump in the rankings so clearly it wasn't all bad. He makes her think all bird quirks give the bearer the patience of a saint.
Amahagane Himiko(Princess Blade)
From what she hears, a stuck-up bitch who Hoge probably idolizes for being "proud of heritage and legacy" or some shit. Theirs no actionable animosity between the two, just Sally seeing an ideological enemy she can't hit.
Yasahi Koibito(Majestic)
Sally has learned genuinely useful things from him about presenting her work as more than just a display of extreme violence and how to use her keen aim for more than just giving criminals concussions and broken bones. On the other hand, she knows about the rumors around him and makes sure to act extra bitchy to him so he knows not to try anything. As such, her opinion of him is very mixed.
Tyler Michelson(Tunnel Rat)
Someone Sally very much wants to trust despite her paranoid side screaming he is a saboteur to her academic performance. He's American and seems to understand things as she does: the country has problems but a concept and spirit worth protecting. Whether or not this is just her projecting her views on someone else of her culture or an actual connection will take time to see.
Jade Makura(Flickfang)
Conrad had enough people with major disabilities that Sally tries her best to be kind about the scars that her elders bear. However, Sally was also raised on radical conservative rhetoric, and China was often seen as the place closest to hell for freedom based on what she absorbed as a kid. She sees the Chinese blind bat with skepticism and a tinge of sympathy from the kinder part of her which recognizes how hard being blind must be.
TLDR: She is conflicted and will try to assert her ability to make choices to Jade.
Junko Hongo(Localoca)
Noah's rescue teacher and someone she tries to be nice to as a result. The two don't interact much due to Sally's singular focus on developing her skills to bring down dangerous criminals, but when they do she genuinely tries to be friendly with the woman.
Mako Takahashi(Esratz)
She gets the usual "polite" Sally given she's not too eager to get to know Mako. Were they to meet as vigilantes that might change to camaraderie or paranoia about getting ratted out depending on the context.
Ramona Castillo Escobar Siachoque(Xpresso)
Asking Sally to cram another language in her head is grounds to make you a villain in her eyes, and the chosen word she uses for her is "Sellout". Most of her grievances toward the woman are based on her frustration at having to learn Spanish alongside Japanese, a superficial dislike which manifests in Sally have outbursts and attempts to avoid her class as best she can. Sally's tendency to hold grudges won't help in making her any nicer to deal with one-on-one.
Omura Tadao(Conman)
Another dead teacher. All Sally feels is grief and righteous anger that she couldn't do anything to save him.
P
Pierre Vachon(Ippon)
She's happy that heroes have a chance to retire. Nobody in Conrad ever really retired, James the Electrical Guy was working on power lines until he died at 85 years old.
Masanori Kitamura(Hijack)
She knows she couldn't and shouldn't have been present to save him, but it doesn't make her feel any less inclined to go on a crusade to kill Sandatsu. She remembers his lessons and tries to settle her soul with that much.
FAQ For Writing Sally at the start of the second year:
-She is actively trying to be more polite with people, and has notably improved her Japanese
-Her hobbies are Kendo, FPS games from before quirks existed, Target shooting, arcade games, and "studying"(Going on dates) with Noah
-She would kill Sandatsu if given a chance, but would want to arrest Desolator as proof she's not like him(IE not a natural born killer).
-She is very active with Kawaramachi church, and takes her faith very seriously.
-She has an ongoing social media beef with Saurus she is too far invested into "winning" to retreat without external motivation.
-her response to traumatic events is brief shock, followed by enacting angry and ill-conveived plans to brazenly disrupt whoever she sees as the perpetrator.
-She is still very paranoid, but a bit less angry than last year.
-Feel free to make the conspiracy theories she rambles about silly: she absorbed everything the old-timers at the range said as fact.
-Vigilatism is like an addiction to her: she tries to say no but always wants to put her quirk to real use.
-Her "polite" act is bacially her knowing some of Japans social rules and trying to apply them at about a 60% success rate.
-If a chance arises to hurt the wild hunt, she will attach herself to it.
-Sally is still being watched by two agents. Agent Law sympathizes with her, while Agent Waver sees her as ticking time bomb(and a promotion to catch). Having the feds start playing dirty to get her back to the states in chains is encouraged.
-She may be a micro celebrity secessionist and gun nut message boards without intending to be.
-She would seek a way to not use Shiketsu-run internet services since they would block her attempts to play Elseworld Arma with American friends. She'd be nice and not use her microphone so Kaylee could sleep at least.
