Towa 4* Side Story

Pamper Me During the Dusk - Part 1

(A Fierceful Battle! Kanji Paperwork Edition)

Towa: Nggh……

Kamira: Why are ya gettin’ so serious on the corner~?
If have time to spare, why don’t we stream while strolling around the minimarket! Let’s try some new sweets there.

Towa: ... You don’t get it?

Kamira: Oh! You must wanna know how long you can stare the paperwork.
Yeah you’ve been groanin’ for some while now. I thought that was an appeal for my attention earlier.

Towa: Wroongー!!
This is a serious battle against my kanji paperwork..!

Kamira: But ain’t kanjis easy to check? Ya just need to browse through dictionary sites.
I have some site recs, lemme send the links really quick~

Towa: What are you, a dumbo?!
I can’t actually learn any from it, y’know!!

Kamira: Huー Huuuh?!?

Towa: This paperwork is not only asking you to fill the blanks.
You also need to carve it with your blood and musclesー also brain and then your soul at last!

Kamira: Hold on hold on! Does it need to be that heavy?!
What’s the matter here?

Towa: ... Oh well, I’ll just talk about it then.
The matter is... This homework paper is the same as the previous one.

Kamira: The heck with that..?!

Towa: Just like your initial idea, I did the 1st paper with a dictionary so it was quickly done,
But they’re doing a sudden exam... Then I got bad marks on that paper!

So then I thought like “I surely will do better with ‘fill in the blank’ questions”, or like “Oh well, I’ll eventually learn by looking more at it”,
But the teach’s being so nosy and wanted us to do a retest! They’re just so wicked for this!

Kamira: Ah... We’re also having those during the school times.
But huh, each kanji paperworks or test shouldn’t be so different?

Towa: As if the era is still the same! People like us are internet surfers since the born days,
Then suddenly it’s all about internet memes, so we have no choice but to put some kind of extra memory slot inside our heads!

Kamira: Pause now, too long didn’t comprehend. So whaddaya mean exactly?

Towa: The TL;DR: You still need to actually study even though you can just look at the smartphone.

But there’s another thing for this retest. Rumors said that you’ll need to attend supplementary class if getting a bad score.
And surely this will affect Denki's practice sessions, isn’t it... Aah, what a drag.

Kamira: !! Towa is willing to do something... No doubt Kaname-san will be moved to tears!
Better tell her quick!!

Towa: Nonono, hold up there!
It’s way cooler if we’re doin’ this in cover... Am I right?

Kamira: Ooh... So like a swan who flutters their feet to swim! What a graceful move!

Towa:(... I can’t tell her. There’s no way to tell that I’ll lose respect from my kouhais
if I fail and have to join the supplementary classー!)

Kamira: Though still, a retest is surely a nightmare. I wish the best of lucks for you~

Towa: Wish for luck is not enough, shouldn’t you also give studying advices as a senpai?

Kamira: Nah, wrong person to ask. Ya know, you can only work on memorizing with yourself.
I’m also the type who crams it all in a night.. By the way, wanna get this new choco to get some brain sugars?

Towa: Fill me up. Nom nom...
Aah~... This is sweetness overload~ Feels like getting some HPs for my dead brain cells~!

Kamira: But while having this problem, you seem to read the theater's scripts just fine, huh.
Shouldn’t elementary-leveled kanjis be a piece of cake for ya?

Towa: If reading I think I’ll somehow get the thing, but ain’t everyone hates to write?
It’s like the word bara (薔薇) or hachimitsu (蜂蜜). They’re readable but hard to write, right?

Kamira: Ah...! You’re right, those kinds of kanjis are really the beast on their own! Somethin’ like Hinshoku (顰蹙) is giving me war flashbacks.
Ya also can’t help but to make mistakes for phrases like Jyousha Hissui (盛者必衰) and Abi Kyoukan (阿鼻叫喚)! ¹

Towa: Uh-huh, more or less like it.
But it bothers me that some otakus are able to write as if this thing is a common knowledge.

Kamira: Even Irocchi and her pals are gettin’ good scores since they learn from anime and manga.
What if I try to learn in depth about history…?

Towa: If you can get in depth just by a thought, then everyone can just become otakus right now.
ーAnd just with that we’re getting away from the main topic.

Someday in the future, I’m pretty sure that we won’t need to write for anything in our lives anymore.
Not sure about the reading, but the writings will just be a part of the history. A nonexistent.

Kamira: Nng, but you can’t convince the teacher with that, right?
Then you gotta study or else your seat will be secured for the supplementary class.

Towa: And~ That’s~~ Whyyy~!! I am now in trouble!!!

Kamira: Ah, I got an idea. There must be a phone app to write kanjis!
I think you can also use it like a game. Easier to memorize, right?

Towa: Welp…, I guess using that way is better than nothing.
I’ll try to look for it...

Kamira: Then, looks like I can’t keep bothering you,
So I’ll be around that area if you need me!

Towa: Appreciated~... Mm, this app should be good enough..?
Yea, I’ll just go with this one!

... Oh. Hmm~... It does have several game-like stuff.
This way seems better than writing in a book, huh~.

Aarghー!! What a downer! You won’t get anything even after clearing a course?!
A course with multiple steps definitely needs some kind of rewards in it!! Hey game devs, are you hearing this out?!?

Tsubomi: … So it is as what was rumored from the Sadness Folklore (Legend of the Sadness).

Towa: T- That voice is...

Tsubomi: My Stray Sheep (destined lost child)ー! Are you in need of a rescue?!

Towa: Tsubomi (The Brave Soldier who Fights Against the Dark Organization)...!
... No wait, what are you plotting on? I’m really busy right now.

Tsubomi: I heard about it from Akiru.
She said that you are suffering with some questions about kanji writings.

Towa: Wait a secondー Yeah! You’re good with your studies, aren’t you?
Which means… You’re here to tell some studying tips…?!

Tsubomi: Indeed. I have prepared a special studying method for you, Motosu.
Therefore, I am now here to teach you about this special method.

Towa: Oo...! That actually sounds cool!
So, how do we start?

Tsubomi: YOU MUST CLEARLY HEAR THE KANJI MESSAGE (SCREAM)!

Towa: ......?

TL notes:

[1] The original JP writing in the story are ‘じょーしゃ必衰’ and ‘阿鼻きょーかん’. I changed the hiraganas to kanji (they’re all a 4 letter phrase), then you can see that the 1st+2nd VS the 3rd+4th letters (stroke orders) are confusing.
