[English AI TL] Kinkoi Golden Time - BugBug Ayaka Append

Banner

Hello, Mel here. Have you ever gotten a random fixation, where you just absolutely needed to do something even if the effort clearly wouldn't be worth it? Well, 11 consecutive hours later and this patch was born.

Download and Installation

Patch: Mediafire (.7z) [54MB]

Read Installation.txt for installation instructions. If you have the Steam version, it's not as simple as just copying the files over.

Patch Details

Translated using Anthropic Claude 3.7 Sonnet, the only AI model smart enough to preserve honorifics but jailbreakable to not censor H-scenes.
https://www.anthropic.com/claude/sonnet

Does not support displaying original Japanese as sub-text. I tried, but I just couldn't make it work.

Append loading is a bit jank, you have to load a save file generated on page 100 of the save menu.

Make sure you set the main language as English before loading the save, otherwise you may run into font size weirdness.

Tools Used

  • The Math God's untranslated patch used as the base.
  • GARbro-Mod used to extract patch files.
  • FreeMote used to decompile and recompile scenes.
  • Gemini 2.5 Pro and GPT 4.1 used to create tools to parse FreeMote output into a format compatible with my translation tool.
  • krkr-xp3 used to repack patch files.
  • Gemini 2.5 Pro wrote KinkoiWriter.exe entirely. I'm honestly shocked at how well it did.

Random Yapping

Bro, I wasted 12 hours on this patch. 11 of those hours consecutive. The append is like 40 minutes of content at best.

I spent the first 5 hours trying to convert the script into multi-language format so I could have Japanese subtext show for the people who have been curious how well AI actually does when you actually understand Japanese. After 5 hours though, it turns out that just changing the script format to match the other scripts isn't enough to get it to actually be multi-language? All the program files are compiled TJS2 and there aren't any good tools for editing them, so after 5 hours I just gave up. Like, it's just an append patch after all.

The next 2 hours I spent making it so people wouldn't have to copy a save file manually, since that's way too jank. I was actually able to write a TJS script to automatically copy the save file into the save folder. But for the non-Steam versions that's literally just the savedata folder. The payoff would've been making it so people wouldn't have to navigate into their AppData folder for Steam installs... except this game actually uses the fucking Steam Cloud Save API, saving directly to Steam Cloud instead of just syncing the AppData folder to Steam Cloud. Again, with the obfuscated TJS2 files, I have no idea how to access Steam Cloud Saves short of injecting a dll, but I'm not about to go distributing a sus dll file. So, I had to settle for just writing instructions to have the user just disable Steam Cloud Saves temporarily.

The actual translation step was supposed to be easy. Unfortunately, the tool that worked so well last time, VNTextPatch... just decided not to work. While I could've tried to fix it, I decided to just write a new parser based off the work I had already done trying to get multi-lang support working. Fortunately, this only took 3 hours. After making sure I had choices and scene break flags correctly inserted, the actual translation script took a mere 8 minutes and a just $0.275 of AWS credit.

Then finally was an hour of finally playing the damn game. It's only like 40 minutes of content, but I had to deal with some bugs, such as line break weirdness and save slot text still somehow being Japanese. But after that, finally, it was done. Short and sweet append, but god did it take too much work.

And then I finally went to bed at 6AM. Now I'm awake and spending 1 final hour finalizing the patch, doing QA, and writing this post. Thank god I only work part-time.

Honestly, the only reason I made this patch was because I accidentally released a broken update for my Miazora Restoration Patch. 24 people downloaded that update, and it feels like I failed them. The only way to get my mind off that failure was to just do something I could succeed at within 24 hours, and this fulfilled that, even if it took twice as long than I expected.

Edit:
Someone lost all their Steam save data, and thus I've spent yet another hour having Google Gemini 2.5 Pro write and refine a C++ program to write the save file directly to Steam Cloud, to prevent any weirdness that may happen when disabling Steam Cloud Saves within the game.

I've never actually written a C++ program before, and it was shockingly easy to get everything set up with Gemini's help. It told me how to add the libraries and references and everything. Figuring it out myself probably would've taken a whole day. But anyways, trust me bro, it's not a virus. Source Code for anyone interested.
