How to spot art scammers on Twitter/X
Hello! I have sadly fallen for art scammers a multitude of times in the past. Especially since I am a very trusting, naive person due to autism. I decided that I should take note of their behaviors, and make a guide and awareness rentry to properly call out these bots and deceptive individuals.
Most common sign - The comments
Often, these scammers ping people in posts and comments asking them to reply or open their dms.
You will notice that not only is the last one obviously repetitive, they comment on the person's icon. This is another common theme we will show examples of later.
I also have seen evidence that these scammers reply to posts the same way bots do, which is why I assume they are also bots or mining mentions and hashtags to scam others.

The dms
They always start simple, with a singular hello. They often then proceed to compliment your character, they target people who have already commissioned someone (especially if they were scammed previously) whom have their oc in their icon. I have also gotten some stray ones that compliment my icon being anime characters or something.

The art
I will not sugarcoat it, the art is always obviously either traced or AI genned.
Look at the mlp one of this scammer if you do not believe me, that is obviously a traced pony art with a mlp background slapped on.

Conclusion
ALWAYS check the profile of any artist that dms you. In fact, be very suspicious of if an artist dm's you a singular "hey" out of the blue. Remember that real artists do not dm you to ask for a commission and don't beg you to open your dms. Real artists put blood, sweat, and tears into their work. They have commission sheets most often, and publicly advertise. Asking in dms like this is not only a sign of scamming, but it's just plain rude.
Happy artist hunting!
