the mg 42 is a general-purpose machine gun that was used by the wehrmacht and the waffen-ss during the second half of world war 2, it was meant to replace its predecessor, the mg 32. the gun has a high rate of fire, a terrifying 1.200 - 1.500 rounds per minute, that produces a distinctive ripping sound rather than individual gunshots, which has lead to its nickname: "hitler's buzzsaw". after the war, the gun was repurposed with a scaled down caliber to create the mg3 which is still in use today.
