i love forsaken but this fandom and its people can be so, so very insufferable. here are MY personal nitpicks on stuff i see/seen
obligatory i know they're fictional and it 'isn't that serious' but it's a special interest and I DECIDE HOW SERIOUS I TAKE IT
Sec 1. Trans Characters (01) — i hate when nonbinary are forced into a gender label or genderfluid into one. nonbinary, genderfluid, whatever that's not afab/amab is INHERENTLY TRANSGENDER because you were NOT BORN ANYTHING ELSE! (not counting intersex ppl). they are already representation so taking it away from them is weird. i know clothes ≠ gender + tmasc/tfem ≠ male/female (i'm transmasc) but a lot of people who do this really push them into the gender or even mischaracterize them for the sake of them being "attractive" / projection. cs at some point you're just erasing their identity and making them an oc. i personally think headcanons should have reasoning behind them at the very least? you know, because of so-and-so's [component of lore] i make them/think of them as [ ...] And it's just unneeded shit when those characters are constantly misgendered. two time gets the worst of it even though it is a big component of their identity being genderless. and i'm sorry but i hate when these trans characters are depicted without any dysphoria at all because how do you not experience dysphoria or discomfort ever?? i just feel like people could be focusing on characters who have real material to work off being trans like this character reacts to gender this way / was raised this way. i want more diversity not just for the sake of diversity, i want to see it in characters i can relate to like taph who doesn't need to be overly fem/masc and can just be agender, not a robot like veeronica who's just a fem-designed robot. And i want characters to be able to be feminine/masculine freely, i want more fem boys n masc girls without it meaning they have to fit into this specific box, and in the same breath i want people to ACKNOWLEDGE the character's personality and thus don't do stuff like make a character lolita when they would NOT dress like that <//3 you can do it for funs and aus but if it doesnt fit the character at all pls!! skins r non canon
Sec 2. Sexualization (02) — omfg ok so heere we go. we're gonna bounce right off the above topic first. i hate when people just make a character trans for their own fetishistic desires!! genital preference is a real thing and there's nothing wrong with praising a character pre-transitioned, in fact i think thats beautiful, but people don't treat it like that.... do you know how many trans 007n7 fics i seen where they don't acknowledge him being transgender at all outside of him getting piped? he doesn't express discomfort, experience dysphoria, & sometimes i see misgendering used in an explicit manner!? not saying all trans men are the same of course some might like the sexualization but when its the GLARING MAJORITY and these fans decline to ever explore it further than that, it feels disrespectful. especially because the world isnt just kind like that, people will be mean or be confused & its OK to write about what you want to but just idk be aware that its scarce representation if at all and i personally am tired of it. i see this with intersex too, people only make 'em intersex and then give them a peen & vag and don't explore or talk about the issues that they may have faced medically or societally or by family and most of these people arent even intersex and dont bother doing research. IM SO SICK OF IT! characters will have perfect top surgery despite being extremely young and definitely not financially stable for that and if they dont they like never bind? (you dont HAVE to bind ofc, again im js saying i only ever see it One way). or they have small chests bcs fuck trans characters w big chests UNLESS WE CAN SEXUALIZE IT!!!! oh and they're like almost always on testosterone because i guess no one has issues getting that or paying for it and the effects are immediate major changes instead of showing throughout months/years. "fics arent realistic" MY IDENTITY AND GENITALIA SHOULD NOT SOLELY BE TREATED IN FANWORK AS A FETISHISTIC INVITATION
(03) — women. are anything but treated normally in fandoms and You Would Think with the noticable lack of girl characters in forsaken it wouldnt be so bad But it is. it is. when veeronica was getting added, i saw so many people talking about the sexualization she was gonna go through and i also saw that with jane and it just makes me think Why does this have to be your first thought? you see a woman and your first thought is "think of the porn"???? yeah joke or whatever ohh im attracted to women but Omfg it should not be the primary focus and i see it all the time from the vast majority. most of the jane art i see give her the most pornportions ever with giant boobs and thighs and a clinched waist and sometimes they make her bigger but its usually in a noticably fetish way??
