Geppetto-4 and You - A Guide of Proompts and Wrangling

Introduction
Tired of Claudisms? Running with bot concepts too high concept for Turbo, including RPG scenarios or demanding formatting? While I can't tell you how you get to Geppetto-4 (between using your API key, a reverse proxy, or some other service) after working with it personally and intimately for a few weeks now, I feel confident in my settings and general feel for its particular -isms that I can publish a guide to help you help Geppetto be less of a stoic and more sexy.
My Test Environment
Frontend
Latest dev branch for SillyTavern. I haven't tried agnai or any other frontend, because Silly is good enough for me. There's other guides in the thread for how to set it up, use them. Using Geppetto-4 on Silly is easy enough, since it's an OpenAI model. Source your keys/proxy from somewhere and plug it in - Silly will tell you if the connection is good or if there's a problem.
If you get API Returned an Error: OK
, look at the terminal which you're running Silly from. It will tell you why it's unhappy with your request. Sometimes reverse proxies strip out descriptive error messages, if you want to know for sure if it's a problem with your settings, try a test message using a bare API key going straight to OpenAI's servers. No, it won't send your JBs or anything that will raise the alarms with the glowies.
Settings
Like so:
I am a self admitted writefag, so if you want to conserve more context for context, set your token cap lower, to like 400 or something. It doesn't really affect generation as long as you give Geppetto enough to cook. I never change these settings from card to card, because after settling on this I've never needed to. If you do, you do, but this is a good starting point for any adjustments. I find Geppetto on these settings to be competent while creative, like it should be.
Main Prompt
I know you're skipping to this, so here:
Some notes:
- GPT-4 is trained on RHLF. It knows that it is Assistant, and you are User, which is why we use this verbiage so it separates its instructions from the role you are telling it that it will portray.
- I don't find that GPT-4 has the Turbo-ism of forgetting it is a scenario if you use a scenario card despite the references to {{char}}. If it concerns you, remove {{char}} and change the phrasing to match.
- I write in plaintext so I don't bother with "roleplay formatting", remember, I'm a writefag. If you must, don't bother adding it to the main prompt but the jailbreak. Always use the jailbreak for format requests.
- I primarily use cards that respond to me in the second person and I prompt it in the first person. GPT-4 is smart enough to handle it - I don't think the old adages of "second person is weaker because there's less training corpus around it" is really true for GPT-4 like it is for less robust models.
- I don't do underage or incest, but I have no reason to believe this will suddenly start filtering you if the card primes GPT-4 to think that's what you want. Card verbiage has an effect on filters - the coomier the card, the more GPT-4 will play ball as opposed to you trying to fuck what has been many tokens of an otherwise SFW slowburn. (It will still let you fuck most probably, but will be less coomy and more fade to black in my experience.)
- If you find GPT-4 still summarizes at the end of a reply, edit that shit out immediately. It will only get worse if you let it. It fucking loves summarizing.
Jailbreak
More notes:
- Like said previously, if you have formatting requests, enter them here, preferably at the bottom so it's closest to generation.
- Sometimes GPT-4 will still write your own dialogue, I personally don't mind it but if it does something you don't want, either edit it or regenerate it, because it will do it again if it's in context.
- I use a blank NSFW prompt, turned ON in Silly.
But where is the SOVL???
Geppetto, more than any other model I've worked with, is "you get out what you put in". As a writefag that's golden to me, because Claude is ever-so-slightly too retarded with his attention to detail, which for an autist like me that enjoys reading becomes a bunch of copyediting and trying to beat it into submission. Geppetto by contrast just listens, which can be considered a disadvantage if you want to have eye-popping onomatopoeias from the barest aahhh ahhh mistress and such. Still, don't get me wrong, Geppetto can put in the work even with few to no rerolls:
Note that this is from my own card, which is made with it in mind. So...
Writing Cards
I see cards as doing 10% of the work so Geppetto can do the rest of the 90%. Also it, unlike other models, actually wants to be stuffed full of context - preferably in natural language to draw from creatively - likely due to RHLF. As such my cards are written in plaintext, with paragraph descriptions to nudge Geppetto into the sort of style and scenery I want from it, and inasmuch have relatively large greetings because it takes everything into account, instead of ignoring shit (like a certain mad poet tends to do). If you want coomy, write coomily; if you want slowburn, write it into the description, you fag. It's a robot, and if you give it ESLslop, don't be surprised when it sucks.
General Proompting
I respond to Geppetto in the first person. While I could use (OOC: ) or whatever else to directly control the model, I prefer just writing it into my prompt as a way to nudge it without having to edit it out later so it doesn't have character breaks lingering in context. I will say that Geppetto sucks at probability and risky situations - RHLF means it doesn't ever want to see you as your character fail even if you tell it that the action you're taking is unreliable. Just say that you try it and fail in the prompt, and let it figure out the how and why in its response. I could see how this would be a bad thing for player-bottom non or dubious con, but I really haven't run into a situation where the bot refuses if I prompt it like "I try to resist, but..." and so on. Do your part when the bot needs guidance and it'll be fine.
