Alchemy and Potions Homework
"Felix"
Special Butterbeer
2 qts Butterbeer
1 Kumquat
1 Tbsp. Dragonfire Sugar Beads
1/2 cup Ashwinder Egg Mousse
1/2 cup Moon-soaked Mandrake Leaf Tea, concentrated (make 1.5 cups then concentrate)
1/2 Tbsp. Sap from an oak treant
Heavy Cream (to balance fire element and thicken)
- Warm the butterbeer in a (preferably copper) cauldron. Heat should be felt radiating from the surface before continuing.
- Slice kumquat as thin as you can and add, stir counter-clockwise three times, and let sit until kumquat is partially dissolved.
- Crack open and beat Ashwinder eggs, adding sugar beads until it turns into a thick mousse. Add to cauldron in parts, letting the mousse dissolve each time.
- Turn up heat and slowly stir clockwise three times, then counter-clockwise once. Repeat until surface looks pearlescent.
- Slowly mix in treant sap, stirring clockwise. Let mixture sit until simmering.
- Add tea directly in the center of mixture. It should lose its pearlescent sheen and produce a puff of light multicolored steam.
- Slowly mix in heavy cream until butterbeer returns to its normal viscosity and color. Add more if desired.
ADDED STEPS
- Rapidly chill it with Glacius. Otherwise, it will cause your mind to race and it will feel unpleasant.
- Add Mallowsweet Tinture (make beforehand)
NOTE: If the butterbeer produces a shiny golden froth, the mix was successful. Drink should cause a burst of confidence with accentuated increase to mental capabilities. Otherwise you messed up and should start over. Or drink it anyway. It's still tasty.
Mallowsweet Tinture
1/2 cup spring water
4 pinches of Ashwinder Ash
3oz. Powdered Willow Bark
Handful of Mallowsweet leaves
- Stir ashes and bark powder into spring water and shake vigourously.
- Use Fulgurata spell on vial for a minute.
- Stuff phial with mallowsweet and let soak for one day and night.
NOTE: Only used in felix butterbeer. May find another use for it later.
Gumtrap
Three pinches of wormwood powder
One fire seed
One horned slug
- Soak fire seed for twelve minutes then stir seven times clockwise for no less than forty seconds and no more than sixty. About one stir every seven seconds should do it.
- Gently but briskly stir counterclockwise five times in small circles.
- Repeat in reverse while adding a pinch of wormwood, switching directions each time until all wormwood is used up.
- Place slug in a cheese cloth and squeeze juices. Wait until it turns into a sandy color. Add slug remains.
- Immediately bottle all contents or have fun cleaning out your cauldron!
NOTE: If it looks and acts like sand, you did it correctly.
Simple Beast Relaxant (that might also work on animagi)
Purified Water
3 parts Umbrella Flower
3 parts Lady's Mantle
1 part Starthistle
- Crush dried Starthistle in a mortar until it becomes a powder.
- Mince Lady's Mantle and Umbrella Flower and then grind in a mortar until it becomes pasty. Add tiny amounts of water while grinding until right consistency.
- Gradually mix Starthistle into paste until all is used.
- Dissolve paste in purified water. Bottle.
- (Optional) Tap container with wand VERY LIGHTLY and softly say "Mitigo". Seems to stop being mildly poisonous to humans afterwards.
NOTE: This tonic was originally made by April in an attempt to help herself stay calm in social situations. She has not mentioned any side effects so far and all I am observing is the obvious shift of boundaries. She is also markedly more comfortable conversing with others but otherwise maintains a majority of her gryphon-like personality. When asked, she says that she instinctually catches all the queues that her mind usually reacts to. But then nothing happens, like almost all of it genuinely doesn't matter to her in the most complete sense.
NOTE 2: Seems that higher concentrations can be used topically and still pacify beasts. I put on a little around Laurel and she seemed to calm down enough I could roll her onto her back. Her parents were also easily pacified after a good five minutes of exposure.
NOTE 3: Do NOT drink this tonic without doing step five or being an animagus! You will have a very angry stomach!
