A Special Addition to Rhona's Phoenix
You are stretched out on the couch playing a game on your phone when your sibling calls your name.
"Mail for you," you hear.
You think to yourself, mail?
Who would be mailing me? The only time I have ever gotten mail in my whole life was when ...
You drop your phone on the couch and sit up.
"Who's it from?"
"Uhhhh ..."
"Nevermind."
You spring up from the couch and snatch the lovely apricot-colored envelope. You know as soon as you see it.
"What's that all about?" your sibling says sounding more than a little annoyed.
"This is an invitation from Rhona Everly," you say.
"Oh yeah. What ever happened to her?"
You pucker your lips, thinking you had better open the envelope and make sure it is what you think it is. You rip into it, knowing you should be careful because the invitations of the past were always delicate and beautiful, but you rip into it anyway.
As always, the thing inside is delicate and beautiful with small and flat crepe paper flowers of the same apricot color and also deeper shades of orange and red. It definitely is an invitation and it absolutely came from Rhona Everly. Somehow, your eyes settle right on the day and time before anything else.
"Friday at 7? That's tomorrow!"
