Biography
Liú Měi is the youngest of the Liú family. They claim to be descendants of the Emperors of the Han dynasty, though after so many centuries, it is impossible to know for sure. What is known, is that the family has inordinate wealth - even after fleeing from Mainland China as the Communists took control - as well as many bizarre and arcane secrets, in Martial Arts as well as other mystical fields.
Since leaving their ancestral homeland, the family has largely dedicated itself to rebuilding their lost fortune, much to the dismay of "Grand-Mama". The eldest member of the Liú family, she was largely sidelined by the family, as unlike the current heads of the family, she is far more focused on preserving the knowledge and skills of the past over restoring lost riches. However, none of the younger members have had the fire in their belly to learn such secrets. Until Měi.
Měi has the qualities that made the Liú family so powerful in the first place. A born genius when it comes to learning, with the preternatural physique to handle such power. Falling in love with the path of Martial Arts from a young age, Grand-Mama elected to take her under her wing to teach her all she knows, moving the pair to the city of Kageoka. Thanks to it having a surprisingly wealthy population that would pay through the nose for even the simplest of charms, her parents agreed to the move, with Grand-Mama taking on the role of a not-so-humble shopkeeper, catering to the esoteric interests of the rich and powerful. This way, Měi gets training in a nexus for supernatural events, and the family forms connections with the wealthy of Kageoka.
Měi and Grand-Mama have lived in Kageoka for several years now, building up a client base of the many well-off patrons present. There's always someone wanting some extra luck in business, to trip up a rival, or to simply spice things up in the bedroom, and they will pay through the nose to get it. Měi works in the store - a sprawling building that is still somehow hard to find - cleaning the place, running errands, or whatever else needs to be done.
At school, she is an average student in some subjects, exceptional in others. She is middling in English, excellent in P.E and Biology. However, it is not her knowledge that she is known for, but her optimism. She is always wearing a smile, always in a good mood, and tries to bring out the best in herself and in others.
In battle it is a different story. Liú Měi takes combat extremely seriously, and will always fight as hard as she can. In a tournament or other official match, she won't go for the kill, but elsewhere? Good luck.
Her body is trained to beyond-human levels, and in conjunction with her wealth of knowledge on martial arts, she is capable of truly astounding feats. When it comes to battling the supernatural, in either bleeding zones or the idea world, she is a berserker, attacking without heed to her own wellbeing. This is not simple-mindedness. Her Idolon's abilities allow her to recover her health by harming others, while those who injure her find themselves receiving equal wounds. As the battle continues, she adapts to the blows received, until even mighty blows are rendered feeble. Even if she is defeated, she can revive herself, though this ability takes a long time before it can be used again, making it a last resort. She shares this ability with her Idolon even in the real world, able to automatically recover from any injury - even death - but only once each month.
Likes:
Exploring Kageoka. This city has something fascinating around every corner for those with the eyes to see. Each battle is an opportunity to test out a new technique, to see a new power, or to simply prove her strength.
Digging through Grand-Mama's basement. To call it a basement is an understatement, there are houses with less floor space. Within the store's lower levels lie countless secrets and mysteries, each of which can be a great source of learning. A book that teaches how to stop one's own heart to play dead, to a talisman that attracts calamity to whoever it is applied to, there is much to discover down there. With little of it being usable without the guiding wisdom of the elder.
Training. Herself and others. She derives great enjoyment from the pursuit of physical perfection, knowing that it is climbing a mountain whose pinnacle is beyond reach, and that it is the journey that is important.
Dislikes:
Communism. Her family was driven out of China during the Great Leap Forward, managing to escape with a fraction of their wealth, thanks to their esoteric knowledge. Still, what was lost does play on her mind from time to time, leading to a dislike of the ideology that took it.
Lazing around. Time spent doing nothing, is time that can be spent doing something. Go for a run, read a book, have a chat, just don't sit around staring into the void!
Matcha. She does not understand Japan's obsession with the flavor. To her, it tastes of grass. Bleh.
