We're back, sharp as a tack, and North Train is on the way. See a brief excerpt below.

A crowd stands in the shadow of a train that somehow seems to give off light and emanate a sort of heat. They board the train without presenting tickets and make their way to their seats with haste. They fill private rooms, sitting two or four to each space. Screens light up as soon as they enter and fill with images and text, and then sounds and video. The sound of a crying child fills the train, almost waking the passengers from a daze. The child shouts, "I want to get off."

Miram and Miles exchange anxious looks. The both look toward the window, before a voice interrupts them, saying "Welcome aboard the North Train."

There could not have been a worse time for corporate to discover a sudden need to check inventory.

After weeks of near zero activity inside the 5 million square foot facility, the once luxury playground to spoiled workers seemed more like a ghost town. The two lucky saps agreed before stepping foot inside that they would not waste time, plant future pranks or raid the candy pantry. They would handle their task and leave in a hurry. Such gigantic buildings feel out of place and eerie when empty.

They headed straight to the necessary storeroom, even though the both of them had privately felt a cold breath on the backs of their necks. On throwing the lock and sweeping inside, they closed themselves in and immediately began scouring the shelves and counting feverishly. Just as they closed in on the last items, the last few tallies, they heard a knock at the door.

They exchanged glassy-eyed stares. Neither spoke because they both knew there could be no person knocking on the door.

"Age of Contagion"

The introduction of the Crown Chip forever changed the landscape of human existence in ways that not even the creator understood.

All anyone knew was that a proprietary melange of proteins, inserted correctly, turned people into something more. First the military, then law enforcement, then the rich and famous, were outfitted with the most revolutionary technology ever seen. Then quickly, strange how quickly, the
dangers came clear.

They all died immediately--lights out. After that, some strange outbreak took hold, and the real troubles began. Luckily, the KORBIS system had been
implemented only weeks prior to the massive numbers of Crown Chip fatalities. KORBIS, an advisory AI, had analyzed the data just after the deaths began and issued the life-saving warnings, shut down vulnerable structures and adjusted security protocols.

As a result, all survivors were placed under mandatory lock-down and have been so for the last 145 years. Keep reading ...
