Recoloring Tutorial
There are different methods to recoloring images and GIFs, with varying results. I'll be using Photoshop for this tutorial, though you may Photopea as an alternative.
Method 1: Gradient Maps
The values (how light or dark a color is) of an image will change based on what colors you assign it on a gradient map. It seems tricky, here's how it's done:
You can also select a specific part of the image to apply the gradient map to:
You may need to adjust the gradient map depending on your image if there are different values.
Method 2: Hue/Saturation
Select a color (or all) to change the hue, saturation, and lightness. Here's an example and how to get hue/saturation:
This is my personal favorite because I don't have to deal with all colors of an image being recolored. Very helpful for GIFs, WEBPs, and APNGs too since all frames will be affected.
Method 3: Layer effects
Layer effects like color, overlay, multiply, etc. could change the color of an image, as shown here:
This one is a bit harder. You'll have to manually adjust things and it might not be consistent with the other recolored images due to differences in the original image's hue, value, and saturation.
Reminder: You can always use a combination or all to recolor an image. Gradient maps are the most consistent as it puts everything through one singular color palette.
