Hey guy’s you probably recognize that I am the same anon who made “Golden Knight” but based on other builds, feedback and a better understanding of the setting, I have decided to make a completely new build that I think matches the setting better.
Having access to a second specialization and the entire dark side of magic and the reasons behind it makes things tricky. While seemingly the good guys the forces of light are denying humanity it's full range of being and will not tolerate who I am destined to become. Humanity being absorbed by the light probably isn't a good ending either. But of course the corpos are evil bastards.
Rake assures me that my contacts will be inclined to accept my dark side when they inevitably discover it, so my contacts reflect this. So with that I am taking Aplloyon as my first contact as her physical emphasis matches my own and she should be a tremendous mentor (she even has a similar implement). I am taking Marie as my second contact as her understanding of the magical underworld is enormously valuable (especially since I want to be a full timer and will be seeking out supernatural income streams). For my third contact I am taking Sylka because she is the only companion to share the shrouded magic quirk, she is a member of the Luminous Knights who I intend to join, and in my estimation a likely candidate for unlocking her dark potential (also we are FWB’s ;).
What made me decide to create a new build is largely the issue of having access to dark magic. I initially just decided to minimize my dark exposure and hope for the best. This wasn’t so good as a lot of the best magic is in the dark half and I had no real plan. The build "Automated Defence” pointed out that the “Shrouded Magic” quirk would hide the signature of dark magic which is invaluable (of course most of them can be identified if you see them in action but still). I had already been considering switching to this quirk for evading the corpos and the great discussions we have had about stealth in this setting. Switching to this dominoed into a full blown rebuild.
I had already been feeling that my last build was too team focused given the way this particular magical girl scenario works. I need to be more capable as a solo operator. So with Shrouded Magic, I added She Who Dream’s in Shadow’s, and Novice Illusion which together should allow for perfect stealth. Being an invisible solo operator means I can use the cool dark magic without the other luminaries figuring it out for a long time and being untraceable to the corpos (who given the setting have advanced surveillance and forensics). It’s also an effective defense in that I am going to take far fewer hits.
So with that I dropped a lot of the tank options and decided to increase my deadliness (largely via mobility as suggested by tournament anon, who’s combat philosophy is pretty similar to mine). I got time magic because its time magic, and level two aero so I can fly like a freaking superhero. With this my mana consumption has gone way up so I decided to keep my ultimate as is and take the “Dark Outfit” to get mana on kill/hit (and healing if I am hurt which is relevant since I no longer have spirit).
Speaking of my outfit, I had to drop armored to fit everything in but a physicality spec still has more defense from their outfit on average and as I said I intend not to get hit, the powered option is still well worth it as it benefits my core offensive abilities tremendously (strength and speed). As for what the outfit actually looks like the powered style is most prominent, but the armor is dark colored. It fits the setting really well I think.
Admittedly a blunt weapon isn’t what we think of the futuristic assassin in power armor to use but it’s still the best option IMO, and the idea of a blade really traces back to the real historical “cloak and dagger” techniques of the Middle Ages. But they used daggers because they were concealable which I don’t have to worry about. It does have a collapsable stock so it can be used up close and personal if need be and I am taking Talented to get the most out of each attack (in addition to old bone mother and celerity).
My missions are pretty straight forward, being a Spec Ops style build really makes them doable. On the death squad mission are the union reps aware of the supernatural? Because if they are I am in the market to be union muscle. I am not going to kill Elara Voss either as it is one of my only chances to make contact with the corpos. I don’t plan to join them or anything stupid like that but a quick discussion about the true state of light and dark and humanities unique position in the middle could be very productive on a long-term time scale. Almost didn’t take quantum god as it is a very tough mission. But Rakes assurance that the missions aren't all at once and the prospect of making a bone trophy out of the quantum god sold me.
