What is CNC?

Consensual non consent has been a heated debate on spaces such as Twitter lately, and been misconstrued as simply a sick rape fetish. Today, I'm going to explain what it actually is and then give you further links for educational purposes.

First, you should take note of the first word of CNC; Consent.

When you are in a CNC relationship, you have mutual consent between parties. There is normally a verbal or written agreement between partners.

What does this mean? What happens during CNC?

Often the partners in a CNC relationship roleplay forced scenarios, or have express consent and permission to do things when there would normally be no consent. Such as consent to make love to someone as they sleep whilst they are awake.

Again, there is in depth discussions of consent prior. And both parties feel good after.

What do therapists say about CNC?

Therapists encourage CNC!
They acknowledge that as long as consent is given beforehand, and that both parties practice safety properly, nobody is harmed. I will leave links to therapist's views from their own medical websites below.

Can people be harmed by CNC??

BDSM itself as a whole can be harmful, when done wrong.
The most common ways in which these things go wrong is not properly giving full consent despite saying so, not using safewords, or having a malicious partner that wishes to harm you truly. This is why you must know your partner(s) somewhat prior. And once again, you must make a safeword!
