Class Rep Wars
"Good morning, class."
"Good morning, Rosethorn-sensei," some students echoed. Others nodded, and others did not reply at all.
"I'm pleased to say that we had good grades overall on our first test. Keep the heroic mindsets you put in these papers, and you'll have no problem going through your first year. As for the people who didn't make the average, I put my reports on your answers in each of your papers; the feedback was written with red ink."
The teacher placed the stack of graded papers on her desk. "At the end of class, you guys can come here and grab your results, one at a time."
Rosethorn clasped her hands. "Now, on to homeroom business... there's something very important we must deal with today."
The class perked up. Was this it? Would they finally escape studying ethics and start having practical lessons?
"You have to pick a class representative."
Groans, disappointed expressions, and stoic acceptance were the most dominant reactions. Rosethorn accepted them all with a knowing smile. "Yes, yes. Normally, we wouldn't even have an election since students tend to vote for themselves rather than people they met a few days ago. Shiketsu chooses its rep based on the entrance exam's written test grades, but Nyoro Hoge hasn't acknowledged their role before the faculty, nor has she attended class today, so we must resort to this."
Soujyuuro raised his hand. "Err, sensei, Hogi is actually—"
Hifumi rose from his seat before the mindreader could finish. "I'm voting for Bobby!"
The blond balked at the sudden message. Paperwork? For him? He thought not! "Well I'm voting for Hifumi!" he countered. The two began to bicker at each other, exalting each other's leadership to their neighboring desks to push a duty none of them wanted.
"Oi, how come we didn't even know our class rep was chosen for us? Seems kind of biased to pick only on grades," Orochi said to Rosethorn, crossing her arms.
"Yeah, and what about us recommended students? We didn't have to take Shiketsu's written test. How would you know if this Hoge person has better academic performance than us?" Maxine pointed out.
"Do any of you even want the class rep position?" Ashleigh asked the clique of Korean girls from her seat.
"No, we just want our superiority to be displayed," Hailey confessed.
"Let's just combine our forces and elect Edith. No way those numbskulls can find a consensus to surpass our votes," Minerva spoke, waving her hand.
Soujyuuro rose from his seat, trying to call for Rosethorn's attention through the Korean quintet. "Sensei, I'm pretty sure Hogi—"
"I'm voting for Bobby!" Inigo declared.
"How could you!" The man on the lead cried out, fearing for his social life. How would he enjoy school with the weight of having to coordinate school events pressing on his back?
"Sorry man, Hifumi made the funnier pitch," Inigo smirked, shrugging in his seat.
"I'm voting for myself," Hiro said.
"Same here," Orochi nodded.
"Put a vote for me too!" Shinkan continued.
"... I'm also voting for myself," Chihiro added.
Various heads turned to her.
"Wait, you wanna be the class rep?" Sora asked, disbelieving. The quiet girl nodded but did not elaborate.
Some of the students realized this was the perfect chance. A scapegoat that would not abuse their power like the recommended girls, nor do a disastrous job, like Bobby.
"I'm voting for Chihiro," Sora said.
"She would be a terrific class rep," Christopher agreed.
"I don't really care who gets the job as long as I don't have to keep listening to this. Put me as random," Yui grumbled, slouching on her seat.
Sandatsu silently agreed. He wasn't even sure he could count as a candidate anyway.
"I'm voting for Kaylee!" Jugo cheered.
"W-Wait, why me?"
"Sensei, would you like help in tallying the votes?" Noah offered, seeing Rosethorn's hand blurring to keep up with the election.
She smiled. "No, but thank you for the offer. I would appreciate it if you told me your vote, though."
The winged boy hummed. "Well, now that I think about it, Kaylee and Chihiro are both fine choices. But I will pick Kaylee since Chihiro already has 2 votes," he rooted for the biggest underdog, as expected.
Rosethorn rose from her seat. "Well, we have less than half of the votes missing. I'll start calling. Damien?"
"I'm voting for myself," the American boy stated.
"Sandatsu?"
"Can I even have a vote in this?"
"Why not? It's a free country," Jugo said.
"Is it, though? Is it?!" Yui commented from her seat.
"Anyway, I pick Chihiro," Sandatsu decided to go with the flow since it'd be pointless to pick himself at this stage.
"Soujyuuro?"
"Hoge has been in the classroom all this time!" the three-eyed teen finally revealed, making everyone pause.
"What?"
He pointed to the corner of the classroom, where the young student sat at their desk, perfectly sinking into the background. None of them had noticed Hoge entering the classroom, taking their seat, or doing much of anything. Soujyuuro only perceived their presence because his quirk could detect readable minds in its range.
"... Huh. How about that," Rosethorn deadpanned. "So, Nyoro, do you acknowledge your position as the class rep?"
"Y-Yes," the androgynous student said, their voice barely reaching the teacher.
"Well, with that settled... we still have to decide on a vice-rep."
The chaos resumed.
