Cemu Android FAQ

Q: Is Cemu available for Android?
A: While there is a fork of Cemu being developed for Android, it's still in the middle of development and not ready yet. Performance is not good enough for playing anything but simple games. There are also a plethora of other issues.

Q: Where can I find Cemu for Android?
A: We don't provide an official download link but if you search hard enough you can probably find an unofficial download. The safe route is to compile it yourself (see below). But if you do download someone elses APK then just be wary of scams.

Q: I read something about a leak?
A: All development happens in public. There was never a leak. If it seems like this Android build came out of nowhere, it's because we don't advertise unfinished builds for obvious reasons.

Q: What devices are supported?
A: According to user reports, Cemu for Android primarily supports devices with Snapdragon processors. It does not currently work on devices with Mali GPUs likely due to lack of support for BCn textures.

Q: What Android version is required?
A: Android 12 or newer, though minimum requirements are still being determined.

Q: What file formats does Cemu for Android support?
A: It supports .wua and extracted format ("RPX format"). .wux and .wud formats are not currently supported. Note that piracy is strictly forbidden and we ask you to get your games legally by following the official guide.

Q: How well does Cemu perform on Android?
A: Not well enough to play games with very few exceptions since it's still in development!

Q: Who is developing Cemu for Android?
A: The person behind the Android fork is SSimco. A volunteer who isn't part of the official Cemu team.

Q: How can I compile it or contribute to the development?
A: Experienced developers can compile the Android version from the public repository.

  1. Clone the repo: git clone https://github.com/SSimco/Cemu.git -b android
  2. Unshallow vcpkg: cd Cemu/dependencies/vcpkg && git fetch --unshallow
  3. Open [Repo-Path]/src/Android in Android Studio and set the build target to "release"
  4. Click "Make Module"

Q: How can I become a beta tester?
A: We generally don't do closed beta tests. As mentioned development happens in public and anyone is free to test early builds if they know how to compile them.

Q: Will there be an official release?
A: Yes, but the timeline is uncertain. It's extremely unlikely it will be ready before 2025

Q: How can I help?
A: If you are not an Android developer then at this point the best you can do is be patient and wait until it is nearer to completion. There is no point in testing & reporting bugs for half-finished software. But if you are an Android developer consider contributing to https://github.com/SSimco/Cemu.git
