Overview

He's based off of the Neon 80s Boombox. He stands at 5'5/165 cm and his birthday is April 10th. he's 23 at the time the game takes place, and he is from the region Playground, specifically the Splintered Skies faction. He resides in the 2nd layer of Crossroads as for now, classified as factionless. He's also a fairly popular indie musician, at least in Playground.
Boombox was released during Playtest 1 on February 19; 2022, He's a part of the Support class, his health starts at 150 while his shield starts at 200.

Appearance

Boombox has two green horns protruding from both sides of his head that curve up and point inwards, with 2 grey rings on Boombox's right horn and one on the left. Around the start of the horn, two light grey rings are connected to the visor and horns. On the visor are two green glowing circles, resembling eyes, accompanied by a bracket shaped mouth right below. He wears a backwards dark green cap with a light green stripe and a gray brim. He wears a green shirt with rolled up sleeves, alongside a darker green tie. On his chest, he has a strap across his chest from his shoulders, which are a dark green. Boombox wears green gloves, with a thumb hole on both. Boombox's pants are dark green with a metal chain on his right leg. On his left leg, he has a double-outlined lime green star design. His shoes are lime with star decorations on the sides, which glow. The vamp of his shoe is white, with outlines on the rest of the shoe which glow the same color as the star.
His namesake gear, the Boombox, is grey, with neon green accents throughout it. The top of the boombox curves upwards, and connects to the holder. On the front of the boombox are two large darker grey circles on each side, with neon green emitting from them. The sides of the boombox are lined with the same neon green.

Personality

Boombox is one of the few rays of light within the Inpherno. He is extremely compassionate, selfless, and always striving to help other inphernals with anything that he can. However, this kindness can sometimes be taken advantage of by others.
P.S: Contrary to popular belief, He isn't super silly. (Said by Aidn)

  Remixing Blitz
  After using an ability, perfectly timing you next ability empowers it. Assists grant Phinisher charge to the ally killer. Kills grant Phinisher charge to the ally who assisted you the most. This is his Passive Ability.
• 
  Pulse Wave
  Fire a pulse wave forward. When empowered, deal bonus damage and knock enemies back. Primary Ability.
• 
  Sonic Snatch
  Fire a soundwave that marks enemies. Recast to pull said enemies towards you. When empowered damage is increased, the soundwave moves quicker, and the pull is stronger. This is his Secondary Ability.
• 
  Bass Boost
  Jump in the air and pull enemies in, reactive to slam down and push enemies away. When empowered, horizontal mobility, pull force, and damage is increased. This is his Q Ability.
• 
  Tempo Change
  Create a projectile that slows enemies and creates a speed boost in front of you, granting haste to allies. Recast to cause the boost to give a burst of speed. When empowered, the slow given is increased and more haste is given. This is his E Ability.

  Raining Tacos
  Give your allies shield regeneration and haste. Activating perfect abilities grants you 1 charge, landing these abilities grants another. Once 6 charges are accumulated, recast to jump in the air, pulling enemies towards you. When you land, slow enemies, pull them to your position, and grant allies haste and Phinisher charge. This is his Phinisher.

  Land directly on an enemy during your phinisher and kill them. You gain the Jammer title along with the GG sticker.

Lore

Boombox was naturally spawned into the Splintered Skies territory, where he was accepted into Windforce's kingdom, providing her with his supporting capabilities. As a newspawn, he became close friends with Skateboard, who was spawned on the island. However, Skateboard was later exiled by Windforce, forcing Boombox to be exiled alongside him. The two landed in Craterdust Capital, with them becoming best friends ever since.

Boombox is a popular musician in Playground, with his main genre of choice being EDM. He took his music with him when he moved to Crossroads, but is still relatively underground in the city compared to his home. He lives in an apartment where he keeps all the instruments he has learned to play over time, due to his love for music.

•⠀Boombox's character theme is "SONOROUS REFRAIN".
•⠀His horns were first intended to look something like a keyring.
•⠀In his concept sketch, he was presumably intended to be yellow, as colored.
•⠀He was made in a week (3-6 days.)
•⠀Sonic Snatch was based on Swain's ability, "Nevermove", from League of Legends.
•⠀Raining Tacos was based on Luna Snow's ultimate, "FATE OF BOTH WORLDS", from Marvel Rivals.

• Skins

• Cooler Boombox is an unlockable skin for Boombox. Originally, it used to be obtained by speaking to its NPC on the stage to the side of the BoomBloxx building for 25,000 Bux. Cooler Boombox was released on 3 September 2022, during the Sun vs. Moon Phestival, designed by ebobebo4.
• Eggsquerade Boombox is an unlockable skin for Boombox. Originally, it could be obtained by speaking to its NPC on the 3rd floor balcony of the green 'boggio' apartments for 50,000 Bux. Eggsquerade Boombox was released on 22 April 2023, during the Violets vs. Roses Phestival, designed by meridiancities.
• Rainbox is an unlockable skin for Boombox. Originally, it could be obtained by speaking to its NPC inside the second building of a sectioned tan building which is opposite of the green 'boggio' apartments for 35,000 Bux. Rainbox was released 26 April 2023, designed by Baylabi.
• Astrobox is an unlockable skin for Boombox. Originally, it could be obtained by speaking to its NPC on top of the BoomBloxx building for 50,000 Bux. Astrobox was released 4 November 2023, designed by Sodakettle.
• Boomwave is an unlockable skin for Boombox. It was initially revealed on 27 July 2025 during the Comedy vs. Tragedy Phestival as the community goal reward for 1,000,000 Phestival Cannons fired. The goal was reached on 29 June 2025. He was designed by Sodakettle.

• April Fools

  
  During April Fools' 2023, The Voice Line Update, he was renamed to "oooxxx_musiclovr_xxxooo", and resembled a Civilian. His dialogue was reworked, and "Raining Tacos" played a voiceline provided by Aidn.

• During April Fools' 2024, PHIGHTING 4, he was renamed to "Sonic the Hedgehog's right leg," and remodeled to reference Sonic from the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. He was also provided with a splash image that would show behind his phinisher, as seen below.

• During April Fools' 2025, small indie game, he was renamed to "Ness Mother 3", and remodeled to reference Ness from the Mother series. He also received numerous SFX changes.

Relationships

Boombox and Skateboard are each other's "ride or die", being the best of friends.
Boombox and Skateboard collaborate during Phights, showing excellent synergy and even planning their music choices for each match together.

Boombox is close and friends with Skateboard's found family.

Boombox and Coil are friends, and they can be seen hanging out together with Skateboard.

Boombox is a huge fan of the idol duo FlipSide, and hopes to one day befriend them.

Boombox is afraid of heights thanks to Windforce, after she exiled him from her kingdom and threw him off the floating island for his association with Skateboard.

Non-canon / In-Game Interactions

Ban Hammer is annoyed with Boombox's loud music, insulting his music taste and telling him to turn it off.

Boombox is curious if robots like Biograft can enjoy music, but is quickly put off when it tells him that it enjoys "the screams of Subspace's victims".

Hyperlaser is not particularly impressed by Boombox's music, finding it distracting, but does end up asking Boombox if he has any metal music.

Katana is intrigued by modern day music, and tells Boombox about a song a relative sung to him as a child.

Medkit finds Boombox annoying, often telling him to be quiet, but does divulge to Boombox that he likes listening to classical music.

Rocket tells Boombox that he likes all kinds of music, but especially likes hip-hop.

Scythe insinuates that Boombox oughta play more country music when taking him out.

Shuriken tells Boombox that he likes pop music.

Slingshot and Boombox get along, with Slingshot often asking to put on some tunes. Slingshot tells Boombox that he likes old school hip-hop.

Boombox asks Subspace about his taste in music, but is less than thrilled to learn that he enjoys "the screams of his victims".

Sword tells Boombox that jazz is his "go-to" music genre.

QNA

Why do you like boombox so much?
Ever since I saw him, from the moment he released, he caught my attention. I always had a liking towards characters that are associated with music of some sort, especially DJs. This derives from the fact that music is my biggest special interest, and has been for years on end. Funnily enough, his pallete is also one of my favorite colors, green! I also relate to him on a deep level, seeing some personality traits that I resonate with. I enjoy a character that I can relate to and project onto. I love how his story is written out so far, and how fleshed out his character is now.

How have you contributed to loving him?
To start off, he was the first phighter I drew around the Spring of 2023. That eventually evolved into me creating a Boombox-Sona to draw frequently, and also affecting my partner into drawing him a lot for me as well! You can read about him here.
I have collected various things, like keychains and things that remind me of him, and I look to possibly get standees and such. I also tend to spam posts that have Boombox on X, and constantly like, repost and bookmark whatever I see with him! I used to have several pictures of him saved, but due to my poor storage, I don't anymore. Although a majority of my likes (way over 50k) are piled with Boombox content.
I was Boombox for 2024 Halloween, and painted the horns, pants, hat, and even got a visor (that can be worn like glasses) that resembles Boombox's on my birthday! Fun fact about my birthday too, it's exactly a week after his! (April 17.)
I've been in film classes, and have even wrote a script and made a short film based around his DJ'ing.
I also like to draw him on almost whatever I see, and have done graffiti of him/created a tag based on him. My socials also tend to tie back to him in some way, whether it's the username or the profile layout!
According to Spotify at least, combining from what I can remember, I have almost a year worth of listening minutes, just like how I think he would too.
There's probably a lot more, but that's off the top of my head.
