Letters to Jeanne

M. de Mirabeau,

It is very nice to hear from you. I'll admit that i have missed you since we last met and to receive your letter made my day! Alas, it can't be helped but I am happy to hear you are doing well. I am doing great myself and thank you for the well wishes about my promotion. Being a Lieutenant Colonel is a tough task as I am the second in command of the regiment now. A lot of responsibility is on my shoulders, so I ask for your prayers.

It is sad to hear about your brother and mother, I wish they would take better care of themselves for your sake. But I beg you to be patient with Maurice, he is just a madlad like yours truly. When I was his age, I did the same haha! But when he gets older, he will settle down like me, which isn't saying much now is it? Nonetheless, I will keep them in my prayers.

I am happy to hear your efforts as a gardener, and I have just the news for you to get your tulips to grow into the most beautiful in the world, almost as beautiful as you. You must urinate upon them once a day as my mother said. Do not dump or pour your urine on it, you must use the natural means of doing so. I promise you this will turn them into prize-worthy tulips, my mother uses this will all of our flowers!

As for my family, we are all doing well. My mother just won a prize for her flowers, can you believe she has set a record for 12 years of winning it? My father is in the capital for business, leaving us boys to watch over the slaves and keep the cotton flowing per se. Them darkies are quite the buggers sometimes but the treerrats keep in line and love their job so long as you give them a proper number of nuts per day.

One day, I want to show you around our local community like y'all did for us. I think you would really enjoy a nice stroll around the meadows and next to the many creeks. You ain't seen nothing yet!

Write back soon and take care,

James Villiers

Jeannie,

The time we spent together last week was unforgettable to me. The dance under the moonlight we shared to "Blue Moon", the stargazing we shared out in the meadow, the look in your eyes of pure joy when I got you the prettiest rose in the valley, and the kiss we shared under a sycamore tree before you had to leave. All of these moments and more weigh heavily on my mind and have my longing for you greatly.

The warmness of your smile can melt any heart of ice. The gracefulness of your movements and the feminine nature you have, are truly unmatched by any maidens in the world. Troubadours and bards sing of ladies like you, whose physical beauty is matched by her inner beauty and kind spirit. You are truly unmatched, Jeannie, in all ways.

I long for the day when I can make you my own, and when you can break this heart of stone. My past wounds can be finally healed, by a woman that I want to hold so near. Write to be soon, my turtledove, or my heart may break from this lack of love.

Your true love,
Jimmy.

Jeannie,

When you receive this letter, you should know I am on my way and my answer is clear. Be with me, my dear Tulip, and abandon the fate that awaits you! Our love cannot be broken, and I cannot stand the idea that you would be miserable with another man. For if you were happy, it would be a different story, but alas I cannot see you in a marriage without love.

This is not an easy choice, and truly it will lead many problems in our families as you well know, but as it has been said, follow your heart and you will find true peace. Thus, I will let you know that I plan to take you far away from both our own homes, for my own family will not tolerate our love either! I know some places down south, where the land is fertile and cheap. Where we can love each other and be at peace.

Gather your things you find essentially and what you hold dear, pack them neatly and at your window you shall meet me. I have everything we need to make our dreams true, so come and join me, my dear Jeannie! Abandon the pretenses of your aristocratic background, and the chains of a future unloving union; and let us forge our own path together. I promise you it will be better

Your Knight,

Jimmy.

"The two forbidden lovers succeeded in making their dreams come true. With a signal, Jeanne climbed down from her window with her belongs and joined her amour at long last. She left her family a note explaining her decision in detail, and by the time the Mirabeau's realized what happened, the couple were long gone. After a month's ride, they reached their destination near the city of Tyrana and were wed their quickly. They set up their homestead around 20 miles out of the town."
