A Briskadet's Encounter With the Pregnancy Cult

Today has been a very shit day for the briskadet. He was supposed to be with his squad, raiding schizos, but instead he was on a boat headed to some random town. A few hours earlier he was a part of a raid on a schizo encampment near the border of the holy kingdom along with the rest of his squad of five. According to Intel the encampment contained a stash of supplies that were vital to the schizos. Entering from the back, the squad rushed into the encampment. However, when they entered, instead of being filled with schizos like the report said, the area appeared to be mostly empty, save for the poorly maintained building in the center that was supposed to contain the stash. The squad rounded the corners of the building, on the lookout for any opponents. However, even as they approached the entrance of the building, none were present. As they bust down the door to the building, they quickly find out the reason for the lack of enemies. The building was completely empty, save for a few empty barrels with that contained the rancid residue of spoiled food. The schizos had already left. While squad mates grumbled to each other about the raid being a waste of time, the briskadet carelessly hurried out of the door, eager to get bask to base and get another assignment. However, as he would soon find out, the schizos decided to leave a parting gift. As the briskadet walked forward, he felt something click under his right foot, followed by a very intense pain as a foothold trap closed around his leg. His squad mates quickly figured out what happened when they heard his scream, and were able to get the trap off of him. However, he was left with a likely broken leg, and had to receive treatment from a bone setter. The rest of the squad had to report their findings as soon as possible, so they agreed to drop him off at the nearest town on their way back to base So there he was, being dropped off in some seedy town in the Holy Kingdom, humiliated and with a leg wound instead of heading straight back to base with tales of a victorious battle as he had planned. As well, from rumors that he heard, the neighboring town Luxuria was rumored to have cult activity in it, but those could just be tall tales spun to scare people. Still, he did not look forward to being dropped off at that town.

After the boat docked at the town, one of his mates helped carry him to a room in an inn to rest at while he waits for the bone setter to arrive. while being brought to the inn, he spotted nothing too out of the ordinary from a holy kingdom down, aside from the presence of pretty red and black flowers that he hadn't seen planted very often in the other towns he had been through. His mate graciously payed for a room and waved goodbye to him as they left to get a bone setter for him and to report back to base. Now, he was all alone, stuck laying in his bed. Even though he just had to wait around thirty minutes for the bone setter to arrive, those minutes felt like hours as he was constantly alert, listening for any potential intruders. After what felt like an eternity, he heard the sound of someone knocking against the door. The sudden sound startled him, but he maintained his composure, hopping to the door and opening it just a crack to see who is on the other side. relief sets in when he realizes that it was indeed the bone setter on the other side, and he lets him in.

After a lot of uncomfortable bending of the leg where the injury occurred, the bone setter determined that the briskadet had a small fracture on his leg, put a rigid cast on the leg, told the briskadet to take it easy and avoid walking too much for a week, gave him some painkillers, and then left. Now he was stranded until his leg healed. The briskadet decided to rest for the night, and think about what he should do when he woke up, and headed off to sleep. As he woke up the next day, getting up and sitting on the side of the bed, he thought to himself. He couldn't spend his whole time here cooped up in his room. He had to go out into the potentially cult infested town. However, the rumors might just be rumors and this town could just be normal, so perhaps he should go and see for himself what this town is all about.

He decided to grab some breakfast from and then take a look around the town. He exited the inn and began looking for somewhere to buy bread. While heading there, he noticed nothing amiss. In fact, the locals were rather friendly to him, offering him directions to the local market. Though his leg slowed him down, the market wasn't too far away so it didn't take long to arrive. The market was well stocked with various food items. He decided to buy a piece of bread, as well as a bottle of milk, which the vendor claimed to be "produced specially". The bread wasn't anything special, but the milk had a rather unique taste to it, more mild and sweet than normal cow's milk. It was rather tasty! However, he did notice something strange while at the market. The vendors there all seemed to have rounded bellies, appearing to be pregnant. While strange, it could just be a coincidence and he decided to put it aside.

The rest of the day was uneventful, the briskadet mostly keeping to himself and not straying too far from the inn, still cautious. The next day was almost the same as the last, but instead of bread for breakfast he opted to try some ___.

However, he began to feel lonely after not talking to anyone for a while
(meets and talks to a local who is secretly a not currently pregnant cultist, says it always nice to see new faces, shares hatred of schizos, has dinner with him and pays for it, and helps bring him back to the inn)

Just before going to sleep, he sees something moving outside his window Peering outside, he sees a congregation of roughly seven people all walking together, all wearing black robes save for one in the middle in white instead. Such a sight deeply unnerved him, were those people cultists? Though it was hard to see, among the ones in black robes appeared to be the local that was so kind to him earlier. What the hell was going on? He watches as they pass by his window ,
